Hi all - so I have a student teacher...and she is amazing!! As a result I have time...so I have been making the most of my time. First, I did my Long Range Plans: Comments? What do you think? I was planning to include the Core Competencies when I wrote lesson plans. Also - I would just print what they provided on the BC Curriculum website in PDF format as the first page. These two pages would follow for Social Studies. Next, I did an Inquiry Unit for Social Studies to match. It covers most of the new content: This unit has not been tried in the classroom so I am looking for the first 5 people who write a comment on this post with their e-mail to demo parts of it or all of it with their class and provide feedback. I plan on doing the same. Anyone interested? My plan is to do a small Matter Unit next. Wish me luck! My student teacher leaves after the first week of March and my time will be up!!

If you are one of my kiddos reading this, have mom or dad print it off for you and get busy!! :) We've done many of these activities already, but it is still a great summer time filler! The unit contains 30 pages of poems, drawing and writing activities, anchor chart activities, a mini book for kids to make, citizenship, community workers, map skill activities, and much more. Learn where you live with this cute flip book! Draw/write about you, your street, school, town, state, country, continent, and planet. Then build the flip book. To build the flip book, students must glue the backs of the pages to the pages above it, creating a trickle-down effect. **Cut out each box. Then glue the "my street" page behind the "me page" ... then the "my school" page behind the "my street" page... then the "my town" behind the "my school" page. Since all the pages are the same exact size, it enables you to use whatever pages you want. You can trash some if they're too repetitive for you. When you are finished, write about "me and my neighborhood" and/or "me and my state" and/or use the 3 continent worksheets (North America, Europe, and Australia included ONLY) to color your country and label it. **There are two copies included in this file: one with black/white images, and one without (for those who wish to draw their own images).
