Paratha’s zijn een van de meest populaire platte broodjes in de Indische subcontinent. Dat kan ik erg goed begrijpen want ze zijn enorm lekker. Deze platte broodjes vullen goed en wanneer je ze opeet, wilt je niet dat het ophoudt. Het deeg heb ik vrij simpel gehouden door de vouwtechniek weg te laten. Wat ik hiermee bedoel is dat het deeg niet herhaaldelijk is gevouwd (denk maar aan de Marokkaanse lemsemmen). Maar als je hier voor wilt gaan dan kun je dat zeker doen! De paratha’s worden daarna lichtjes gefrituurd/gebakken in een beetje olie en belegd met een heerlijke ei-mengsel van diverse kruiden en groentes (om gezondheidsredenen zou je de paratha kunnen afbakken in de oven). Ze zijn wat dikker en zwaarder van structuur dan de meeste platte broodjes die ik ken maar dat smaakt steeds naar meer. Er zijn veel alternatieven om de paratha te vullen met wat jij maar lekker vindt! Zelf heb ik het fris gehouden door het te gaan eten met wat tomaat, sla, ui, sambal en knoflooksaus en wat was dat verrukkelijk! Voor mijn broertje heb ik ze bijvoorbeeld gevuld met wat gehakt en groentes omdat hij dat graag wou. Diversiteit zit er dus zeker in voor de moeilijke eters. Paratha’s worden meestal gegeten als ontbijt of ze worden vergezeld met een heerlijke warme kop thee. Meestal serveren ze het met een beetje boter erop maar dat varieert natuurlijk per persoon.

INGREDIENTS 4 Cups Fanta 4 Cups Sprite 1/2 Grenadine Syrup 1 tbs Angostura Bitters 1 medium Cucumber 4 Lime/Lemon Mint leaves 1 tray of ice cubes (sprite) PREPARATION Prior, add sprite to ice tray for cubes. You can use water but I prefer sprite because when you get to the bottom of your glass, you find that the cocktail is very diluted with water from the ice. In a jug, add equal amounts of fanta and sprite. Next add grenadine syrup, angostura bitters- combine together. Chop Cucumber and lime, add to the mixture. Im my opinion, this drink is not complete without cucumber-it's to just for garnishing. Mix it in the drink. Garnish with mint leaves and serve chilled.You can find Mint leaves in shoprite as low as 100 naira.
