The final design above and a bit of my process below... I was absolutely delighted when wedding planner, Emily Starr got in touch to create this really fun crest design for her clients upcoming wedding. When I saw the color palette and was asked about including these animals, I knew this project was meant for me! The pig and the deer have significant meaning relating to the bride's last name and the grooms actual family crest. I just did the designing and gave them to file, they plan to print on various day of paper goods and I can't wait to see! I used all watercolor / gouache paint for this design. As you can see, there is no such method to my madness (unfortunately). Sometimes it's just easier for me to paint larger (I feel I can paint with more detail that way) then scale everything down and piece it together once I scan. I use Photoshop to put the elements together. Hey, it's whatever works! I love seeing the ways people use crests, monograms, heraldry these days. It doesn't have to be just for your wedding! You could have a fun painting with meaningful icons created for you and your family to display as art. The best part, it doesn't have to be like actual traditional heraldry... you can pick elements and colors that reflect you best.
