Gothic Ballad is is one of those knitting experiments where I found beauty and grace in the simple matching of a stunning yarn with an easy but amazingly impressive lace stich pattern. The result is a crescent shaped shawl worked from top down, in a beautiful double seed stitch texture, interspersed by two stripes of modern, stylized and elegant lace. The final effect, combined with the color and the stunning drape of the Mechita yarn, gives to the shawl a dramatic and “gothic” appearance. This is the perfect project if you are a lace-starter, if look for an easy to memorize lace stitch pattern and you like repetitive knit work with no much need of concentration. You will be rewarded with an astonishing accessory, a shawl perfect for an everyday use as well as for a very special occasion (in white, it would be perfect indeed for a bride!) GAUGE after blocking: 21.5 sts x 36 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm / 4” x 4” in double seed stitch. Gauge is not critical; different gauge will only affect finished size and yardage. FINISHED SIZE after wet blocking: wingspan 208 cm / 81.75”; depth at the deepest point 52 cm / 20.5”. MATERIALS 3 skeins of Fingering weight yarn, corresponding to approximately 1182 m/ 1260 yds in total. Yarn used for the sample: -Malabrigo Mechita (100% superwash merino; 100 gr/ 384 m), colorway: Pearl. 3.25 mm / US 3 straight or circular needle 80 cm/ 32” long or longer, or size to obtain gauge Stitch markers Tapestry needle Blocking board and pins Gothic Ballad è uno di quegli esperimenti di maglia in cui ho trovato bellezza e grazia nella semplice combinazione di uno splendido filato con un sorprendentemente bello motivo traforato. You know how to knit ? You know how to purl ? You are ready for Aran knits ! This lovely unisex scarf is ideal for beginner knitters who are not familiar with complicated Aran patterns. Though very easy to memorize, the highly structured pattern gives it the very special look of a traditional Aran scarf. Of course, you can knit it with traditional DK yarns, but why not give it a twist with a mohair yarn in delicate pastel tones ? Yarn substitution: this unisex pattern allows almost any yarn choice, but for a result similar to the original design, please refer to the yarns used by the numerous Ravelers who made their own version, or to the yarns suggested here on Yarnsub.

Both the Javelin pullover and the Javelin shawl are about strength and resilience. A sort of body armour, they were born during the most difficult time in the history of Ukraine and Europe. Javelin is an old Celtic word, which means a light spear thrown in a competitive sport or used as a weapon. The textured ribbing used in this pattern does resemble little spears. It is a crescent shaped shawl, that is knit top-down. The pattern comes with row by row written instructions, as well as charts for each section. You can take a closer look at my sample in this podcast episode. Size The pattern is written for one size with the finished wing span of ca. 208 cm (82 in) and depth of ca. 52 cm (20.5 in), which you can adjust by starting with the garter edge section whenever you feel like. Yarn 400 g or 4 skeins of Highland DK by LITLG, 100% untreated highland wool with 225 m (246 yds) in 100 g skein, shown in colourway Camel; or ca. 900 m // 985 yds of any other heavy DK/worsted weight yarn or any combination of yarns to match the gauge. Needles and notions 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles; 4.5 mm (US 7) DPNS for i-cord tab cast-on and to use as a cable needle (optional); spare cables, spare circular needles to be able to try the shawl on; two stitch markers; a tapestry needle or a crochet hook to weave in the ends. Gauge 16 sts & 30 rows in 10 cm (4 in) on 4.5 mm (US 7) needles measured over stockinette stitch worked flat after blocking; 18 sts & 30 rnds in 10 cm (4 in) on 4.5 mm (US 6) needles measured over the textured pattern worked flat after blocking.

Ronas is available in four beautifully heathered undyed shades, and as with our entire range, is entirely certified organic from Sheep to Shelf. find all available colors here Kyler is worked from the narrow point of the left edge. Stitches are increased every right side row in the lace pattern and then onward into the Stockinette stitch section. At the end of the shawl there is a rib border which is punctuated by some last rows of the lace pattern. The combination of lace, stockinette and ribbing give this shawl a sophisticated yet casual look. Lace pattern is charted and written out Yarn Garthenor RONAS 229 yds (210m) per 50g, 5 skeins or approx 1090 yds (1000 m); shown in color Shale Please note that most testers, who worked with yarns other than the original Ronas, used more yarn to finish the shawl as written. Consider purchasing an extra skein. Needles US 6 (4 mm) circular needle, 40” (100 cm) long or size needed to get gauge. Gauge 20 sts x 27 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) in lace pattern after blocking. Intended as a baby blanket, or a knee rug/lap blanket for adults, 2 sizes are included in this pattern. Now joining the other one piece blanket designs in my design portfolio, the Deja Vu blanket is such an easy knit for a very effectively textured blanket. I like to think it will become (another) favourite ‘go to’ knit - because it’s so easy & fun, but also because it will make a beautiful (& forever useful) baby (or adult) gift.

Lunae’s most prominent design feature are the beautiful, but easy to work horizontal and vertical mosaic bands. But she has more; lots of amazing texture, a lovely, wearable shape, a fun construction, and, if you’re in to them, tassels! And yes, it seems like a lot, but the well thought out details and the meticulously balanced proportions prevent it from being over-the top in any way. Although Lunae is a stunner and an eye catcher, she is also remarkably easy to wear and effortlessly elegant. Wear yours with pride and a very wide smile! C O N S T R U C T I O N Lunae has a relatively shallow, elongated triangular shape. A prominent design feature are the vertical and horizontal mosaic bands that adorn the shawl. To achieve this look the Upper Body of the shawl is worked from side to side. For the Lower Shawl Body, stitches are picked up at the lower edge of the Upper Shawl Body. From here on you will be working downwards, further shaping the shawl by increasing at the sides and the center of your shawl. Choose four of my designs, and pay only three! The least expensive one will be free. Make sure to put all four patterns in your shopping basket before you check out. Shift your perspective, and the way this shawl looks will change, too! Persimmon Perspective is an asymmetric triangular shawl worked in two-colour brioche rib that looks equally good on either side. Two-colour stripes frame the centre, where a third colour is blended in with a mixture of horizontal and vertical stripes. The effect is striking, but the shawl is easy enough to be a first brioche project. Play with colours and enjoy making this cosy accessory your own!
