Good morning! I'm posting again over on the Winnie and Walter blog this morning to share a couple more cards with some of the amazing new sets from the most recent release. For both of these cards, I played with one of my favorite techniques - watercolors! First up, a floral sympathy card - I just can't get over the beautiful florals that Winnie and Walter released this time around! For this one, I simply heat embossed my images from In Bloom: Addie's Garden in white on watercolor cardstock, then colored it in. I pained teach part with a light watercolor wash, then dripped in darker colors in certain areas and let it bleed out for a natural look. Added a sentiment from The Big, the Bold, and the Comfort, a strip of green cardstock, and then machine stitched it right onto my kraft cardbase. Next up, I wanted to attempt an ombre look with watercolors. Instead of starting at the top or bottom, I went out from the center. I love the deep blue, and it was just natural to pair it up with some gold! I heat embossed the heart from True on vellum, then fussy cut it out and adhered it with tiny dots of glue behind the embossed parts. I then built and stamped my sentiment directly on the watercolor paper using that same set, as well as My Precious. Finished off with a few flicks of white Mister Huey's mist, and then adhered directly to a white cardbase. Thanks so much for stopping by today! Hope you are having a wonderful day!
Today I'm sharing a clean and simple card with the gorgeous Starry Colors Gansai Tambi water-based pigments. They look awesome on dark cardstock and perfectly colored these stamped and embossed heart outlines. A large stamped and embossed greeting from the...
Hello! Are you ready for a fun TREAT KIT from Taylored Expressions? It's called Tombstone Treats. My daughter just moved to college so I created this duo......card and treat box, to give her! My card started out with ink blending some Pink Champagne and Macaron inks. Very lightly, some clouds were ink blended over the top. I added in some tombstones in the same colors along with a marker that was white heat embossed. The dies included in the kit are awesome because they include a "backer" for EASY layering! I tucked the tombstones into some ink blended die cut grass. I added some black rhinestones as accents along with tiny flowers from Garden Variety to make this more feminine. The treat box was SUPER easy to put together. I do suggest using Scor-Tape for assembly. My treat box was decorated similarly as the card. ********************* This kit is $49 and comes neatly packaged in a handy zippered pouch with a custom sticker, making it easy to access everything you need to create delightfully spooky treat boxes. I love this monthly post from the MFT Stamps design team! The Creative Challenge is where the design team is tasked with using our products creatively. It.is.my.favorite! To play with paper crafting supplies and see what the possibilities are? Heavenly! And today's challenge is a personal favorite of mine, stencils! My first card of the day. A basic idea, misting color through this Fishnet stencil and leaving the pattern behind. But check out exactly how I created the color! To create this beautiful, shimmery background, I created my own color mists using Mix-ABLES Sheer Shimmer Mist and Gelatos. Gelatos are an amazing color medium that MFT Stamps is now carrying in the store! I couldn't be more excited! Scrape some of the Gelatos off using a tool. Use small piles to make it easier to place into the mini mister. Place the color into your mini mister. There really isn't an exact science to how much color to use. And the best part is, its no worry because if you want more color, just scrape more color into the mister. Pour your Mix-ABLES Sheer Shimmer Mist into the mini mister. I pour until about half way up, or so. Again, no science here Just fun. Close the mini mister and shake until the color disperses. Keep this too! While the Gelatos may separate from the mist, simply shake it up again and you can use it again! If you want, I have an old video tutorial on how to create your own mists. Check out the links at the bottom of the post. I finished the card off with a sentiment from Friends Like Us stamped in Hybrid Black Licorice ink. I chose the Hybrid formula because I knew it would stamp on the misted background solidly and cleanly. The butterflies are Vellum die cut with Die-namics Winged Beauties. Same stencil, Fishnet Stencil, on this card, but an entirely different technique. Simple and easy and it yields gorgeous results! On Smooth White cardstock, I applied two colors of Gelatos directly to my paper. Then I spread them around with my finger to evenly cover the paper. I placed my Fishnet Stencil over the color. Then using a baby wipe (or you could use a damp paper towel) I removed the color by pressing the wipe over the stencil openings. Be sure and click the photo above to get a better look at how cool this technique is! I finished the card with a sentiment from Totally Happy that was heat embossed in gold on a piece of vellum. Hello! It's a cold, wet & rainy Monday here So I thought a picture tutorial would Brighten up the day:) Many of my Lovely readers have asked how I created this card from this post, using the Penny Black Promenade 25-001 STENCIL. Remembering the steps was a bit of a challenge for me because the initial Background was a practice piece from The OLCC Watercolor for Cardmakers back in May of this year. I don't throw card fronts away thinking they may be useful later. I picked up this front and added other stamping and sponging techniques to make up the finished card. Here are the steps: Sponge your color on a card front. Leave some white space:) Using the Penny Black Promenade 25-001 stencil and small applicator sponge the leaves, vines and blooms. Make sure the ink is heavily sponged! Ink up the BACK of the stencil...make sure it's the BACK--opposite side of what you just stenciled through. Spritz the stencil with water and place it on the card front just off to the side of your sponged blooms. ****Here is the hard part...Just let it sit and air dry!! The water will pool and move under the plastic stencil. Magic happens when it dries on its own. See the Magic? Splash gold color shine as you wish. Ink and stamp the Penny Black sentiment in black archival ink. Re-ink the sentiment in another distress ink color and stamp off to the left of previous sentiment. Yes, It looks blurry. Take a brush and clean water and gently brush over the sentiment to bring the shadow together with the black sentiment. Place a strip of washi tape on the fold of your card. Trim the front down and adhere to the card base. Add sequins and WALLLA!! Your card is finished! Here are the original and the second card side by side. Each lovely in their own way... yet similar in technique. Hope you enjoyed the tutorial and PLEASE ask if there is anything that is not clear. Give it a try...I'd LOVE to see what you come up with:) I'll be linking up to the SSS Wednesday Challenge : Use Watercolor. Thanks for stopping by! Good morning! Today I'm sharing a couple of cards using the beautiful pre-printed Watercolor Paintables by Suzy Plantamura from the Cherished release from Simon Says Stamp - this set was particularly lovely, and I love how nice it is to have something all ready to just color when you have a few spare minutes that will make a fabulous card with minimal supplies and effort. I've also added little touches to these to make them a bit more unique as well which is fun! This one I colored using almost a serious of tiny dots - dabbing my watercolors on in a tapping motion. I love the mottled effect this gives and all the texture! It is hard to see in the photos, but I also added Stickles to the flowers and the butterflies wings. The perfect finishing touch for this dreamy card! And for the next card I did a simpler and quicker watercoloring - but layered up color for texture and depth. I set down a light watercolor wash in each color, then came over again with the same color to add more depth. And then, for the finishing touch on this one - I added Glossy Accents to the words, centers of the flowers, and the birds eye, beak, and feet. On both of these cards I rounded off one corner after adhering it to a white top folding cardbase. One more little touch to make them uniquely mine! This Color Fade Stationery is as versatile as it is beautiful. With a simple sponging technique and a steady hand you can create a dark to light fade effect for your next set of DIY greeting cards. Use warm colors like red and orange to imitate a sunset on your stationery. Stick to a cool palette with blues and purples and your handmade cards will look as though they belong by the ocean. In fact, the semicircles on the front of these cards look a little bit like fish scales. Use these cards for invitations, thank you notes, birthday greetings, and more.
Heat embossing your stamped images creates a fun opportunity for playing with coloring techniques. The embossed lines provide texture as well as a barrier for color bleed. Choose watercolor or blended ink; loose, random color or precise application — there are so many ways to implement a variation on this technique. Our assortment of rubber background stamps allows you to create a full panel of pattern and color with a single impression…it doesn't get any easier than that! Good morning! Sharing another catch up card and video from Unity Stamp Company - this is another one of those random happy accident cards! I had a new embossing folder to try out, and really wanted to do some watercoloring, so I suddenly thought, why not emboss the watercolor paper? I'm so happy with how it came out! Here is the video: Such an easy way to create a background for an image - I left the image and sentiment pretty simple, since the background was plenty interesting enough! I received a few comments and questions on how I did the background for this card so today I'll show you the steps in a pictorial because I'm not proficient with videotaping. * * * Using an ink blending tool, apply several colors of distress/dye ink on the surface of white card stock. I used Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade distress inks and Papertrey Ink's Simply Chartreuse. Dye inks work well, but Distress inks are specially formulated to react with water. Spray a liberal amount of water on your stencil and place it on the inked surface. Press down lightly on the stencil. You should see some of the color start to disappear beneath the stencil. Gently lift up the stencil. You can use the corner of a damp paper towel to pick up some of the excess water that pooled up on your card, or you can leave it as is. I tend to be a bit impatient so I use my heat tool to dry off the water. Make sure the piece is completely dry, especially if you plan to stamp on the surface, or do some heat embossing as the embossing powder will stick to water. Keep in mind that you will always get different results, depending on how much water you spray on the stencil, and how much color is taken away. Just practice until you like what you see. It's a forgiving technique and there's no right or wrong way of doing it. Have fun and let the stencil and water do the work. If you do try this, share a link to your card in the comments section below. I'd love to see your results! Thanks so much for stopping by.
