{Alternative title 'A right dog's Dinner} Hi Everyone, Helen here. You can see that by the alternative title of my post I had trouble with this one! You ever get a project that doesn't go to plan? You reach that point where you either have to abandon it or try and rescue it? Well this was one of those. I sort of knew what I was planning but ended up with a muddy mess as you'll see below. This is the end product: and this is how it started: I used stamps from the Lynne Perrella Collection 026: LPC026 and one of Lin Brown's stencils 004: I stamped the girl collage several times onto tissue paper in StazOn Fuchsia, Teal Blue and Mustard and then used Satin Glaze to stick it to my board. I knocked it back with a wash of gesso and then, using the coordinating Bubblegum, Vibrant Turquoise and Lemon Zest Dylusions sprays, I started spraying at the top and letting it run down and across my canvas, blotting as I went: Here's where it got out of control! In desperation I added more gesso and then started rubbing at it with an old flannel (very useful tool) taking off some of the surface as I went: I was determined to persevere, so thought I'd add some stamping. I stamped the two images onto acetate, flipped them over and painted on the back, using the same sprays with some Snowflake paint to get the same colour tones. When dry I painted over with the Snowflake. After sticking it to the canvas with Satin Glaze, I added some white paint stamping to lighten it up a bit. I just used parts of the girl stamp for this. Then out came the Grunge Paste coloured with Mermaid paint and some lovely Lin Brown poppies. It was only at this point that I thought I might be okay! I added a little Limelight Fresco paint to the stalks, Fuchsia stamping to the poppy heads using the same stamp as before and outlined all the flowers with a soft pencil that I then rubbed over with a cotton bud. And here we are, a couple of close ups: And the motto of this story is - never give up! Until next time, Helen. A huge thank you to Helen from all at PaperArtsy HQ for this post, it is always fascinating to see the creative process, to see the things that go wrong and how you have rescued the project. It really did turn out great and does not need the 'alternative' title. If you would like to join in our weekly challenge with any of this week's guests who have blogged since Sunday night, then join in to link up your creativity HERE you will go in the draw to win PA stamps of your choice! You need to link your entry by17:00 (London time) Sunday 18th May 2014

hello and happy Saturday to you! I meant to post this before I left on vacation but there was way too much to do and so, here it is, on a Saturday. :) This months Color Challenge with Crate Paper ~ the details of the challenge are posted on the blog. I knew I wanted to make a mini for the Fall season and even though this month is all about orange I was determined to create a color combination that wasn't expected. No orange for this month! This month's colors are Peacock Green ~ Mustard Yellow and Wheat ~ I think these colors are so complimentary to Autumn photos or Fall themed projects! I created this mini album using coaster sized chipboard, Hambly transparencies, lots of Crate Paper Chipboard accent pieces and Patterned Paper. It's called Autumn Plans - think December Daily except geared towards Fall - It measures only 4x4 inches, large enough for photos & journaling and yet small enough that it's completely manageable. I think I made this entire little book in one afternoon! I filled the album with a combination of photos, to-do lists, quotes, ATC's (from last year) and I plan on adding more photos as I take them. I still have lots of baking to do with the kids, our annual Autumn hike in Sedona, some arts & crafts time and the kids' Fall festival at school. busy-busy! What are your Autumn Plans this year? This month is going by entirely too fast but I am happy to say that I have the house and yard all decorated for Halloween. I just need to pick up one bag of every possible candy available at the grocery store and I think I'm all set! I'm off to finish up some laundry and then it's on to making a candy garland! Hope you're are having a lovely weekend!

Hello Everyone, it's been a fabulous week here at the Brown household with Ken's birthday Thursday and our 40th wedding anniversary on the same day. Last night we celebrated with the children and grand children having a lovely meal out together and tonight we celebrate with a few friends and neighbours by having a summer garden BBQ. We just hope it doesn't rain after all the wonderful hot sunny weather we had in July. Today I thought I would share four altered playing cards that I have been making (you can seer the previous 4 here that I made in March if you haven’t caught up with them yet) Although I followed the ideas and techniques from Stephanie Ackerman, I am using images and collage pieces of my own. I save quotes and make my own sheets and print out to use in albums, on cards and mixed media projects. I won’t share the process steps in respect for Stephanie and her online class, but suffice to say I am enjoying making these and having fun exploring some mixed media techniques. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and I hope you have a wonderful weekend. hugs {brenda} xx
