Welcome back for another 52 Card Pick Up Session! Cards 13 to 24 are meant to combine doodling with mixed media techniques which opens new ways on creating you otherwise would not have thought of. I found it hard at the beginning (having to tear my doodled cards to halves) but creative thoughts soon developed their own direction and pace and I let them take me with them. I also feel the need to express how happy and proud I am that my cards were able to inspire and lure some other folk like Brenda Brown for example into signing in for the 52 Card Pick Up too! It seems she even likes my style of displaying them so much that she has adapted it for the cards on her blog too. I think inspiring and getting others to seek for new styles and creative paths is the biggest laud you can get honestly. So thank you! This time I start with showing you my doodled cards first so you can see where I have used parts of them on the cards number 13 to 16 afterwards and how I tried to incorporate them into the design. Two of them haven't been used yet and I am not sure if I will. I think I'd rather do some new ones...now that I worked my way towards making them blend into the cards design. #13 I am afraid on card number 13 I painted all over my doodled word because I had used too many various colours so it just did not fit in. #14 #15 #16 Numbers 15 and 16 are my favourites because the doodles worked quite well with the 52 Card Pick Up design...but still make them more personal. Hope you like some of them too ;) Hugs and happy crafting, Claudia x

I only recently joined the "52 Card Pick Up" online class from Stephanie Ackerman as I really adore her special design she uses on her 52 cards filled with encouraging sentiments to guide you through a year. I haven't started my 52 cards yet but gave the technique a first try to create a series of 3 ATCs using Tim Holtz goodness only along with Stephanie's technique. I loved playing with tissue wrap, tissue tape, alpha parts, journaling tickets, glue, Tim Holtz stamps, distress paints and stains and distress markers! Hope you like them! Thanks for visiting! Hugs, Claudia x

Here come my numbers 9 to 12 from the 52 Card Pick Up. The next twelve cards will look a bit different because we are to doodle and use part of it on the cards. So I am off to practice my doodle skills which have rusted I am afraid ;) But for now I hope you enjoy having a look at my third set from the class. Again I had some happy time at my crafting desk creating and adapting ideas for my own cards, because for this set Stephanie left a lot of room for own interpretation and merely gave hints or impulses than a ready design. No. 9 No. 10 No.11 No.12 I enter these too to Inspiration Emporiums "Say it with Words" challenge. Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and happy crafting, Claudia x
I'm really loving this little class... the instructions for the 2nd set of twelve cards were posted in the classroom on 4/1, and I worked through them to do my cards and I love them. The techniques were a little different this time - lots of fun layers, some different mediums, and lots of color! Each of the cards has a definition on it for a word that resonated with me... the first letter of each word should help to spell out BEAUTIFUL YOU which was fun. Here are the individual cards with all their lovely layers and their words:...
Today I gave myself finally a push to start my 52 Card Pick Up deck. If you don't know what "52 Card Pick Up" is all about take a look at Stephanie Ackerman's site to learn more about her lovely concept HERE. I love her concept of having a project that - once it is ready - will always stay a source to refer to if you feel down or have lost your mojo. I also love that you can either choose to do one card a week or more in one go (which is what I do as once you have started creating and messing around you can't just stop after one card ;). I decided to follow Stephanie's order of cards (as she definitely has put a lot of thought into "building up" your very personal project and creativity along with it)...so I started with the cover card and then did the numbers 2 to 4. As my playing cards are a bit smaller than the ones she uses with her class the design differs a bit...as I use many elements that she used that are one-size...so they take more space on my cards than on hers. But actually this is something that makes my cards more "me" - so I very much like that. On card No. 2 I ran out of chit chat stickers, so I replaced one word with a stamped one...and think it looks really cool! This time I managed to work with glitter and NOT having it all over my clothes and place afterwards. What a lucky moment! LOL I had a wonderful time at my crafting desk stamping, smearing and smudging distress paints, markers, inks and stains, glueing and tearing and working with textures...be assured: my hands did almost look like another finished card afterwards (having glue, scraps of torn bookpages, glitter and paint on them all over...due to a forgotten spot of still wet black acrylic paint on a black piece of craft sheet which I use a palette;). Thanks for visiting! Hugs and happy crafting! Claudia x
Ever since taking Stephanie Ackerman's class I have slowly been working my way through my deck of cards. Halfway done now, and each one I make is making me so happy. These little cards go together so quick, and are perfect to tuck in cards or a friend's pocket as they walk out the door. Here are the most recent 4 I have made... Closeups. Acrylic Paint, Tissue paper, book text, stamping and more. My words come from scrapbook stickers, book text and even the selvage on scrapbooking paper (the one below comes from a piece of Authentique paper) Then translating what I have been doing on the playing cards onto larger pieces such as Birthday cards for 2 special friends. Almost the same techniques as above but on card stock bases. Ready to pop in the mail and hopefully brighten their day. The hearts on the 2 cards from from an old Gelli Print on deli paper. So that's it. It's a heart filled post today. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Hello everyone, thanks for dropping by here. I finally had some time to play and have fun just for myself, and so I managed to do the next 4 cards for my 52 card pickup project. If you want to know more about this project, you can read all about it here. I have been so busy with other things that there never was time to continue with this project, but finally today I managed to complete the next 4 cards, no 17, 18, 19 and 20. For this new set I really wanted to play with some texture in addition to the other elements. After covering my little playing cards with strips of old book paper, I added bits of lace, cheese cloth, gauze, corrugated card etc and then covered everything with a coat of gesso. Next followed a heart, either die cut or stenciled. Hearts as well as inspirational words and/or sayings is a theme that will run through all 52 cards in this project. For this set I then used colour sprays, mostly home made, a little background stamping and a few embellishments then finished the cards off. Below are some close ups of the individual cards: A die cut heart covered with Picket Fence Distress Crackle Paint. Coloured with Victorian Velvet and Weathered Wood sprays, made with re-inkers. Some Antique Linen Distress Stain was added to the heart. Chit chat stickers etc. finished it off and shadows were added with a Distress Marker. After spraying with my chosen colours I added a very light touch of Gesso again with my fingers, to bring out the textures a bit more still. This heart was stenciled with Wendy Vecchi crackle paste. I also stenciled the word Passion with a mix of Coffee and Jet Black Archival Inks and coloured with Antique Linen and Walnut Stain. Both stencils are from The Crafters Workshop. Word Stickers and the new Tim Holtz Industrious Stickers plus some hand doodling, completed this one. This was a die cut heart again, texture was just added with my finger and some texture paste plus a scrap of cheese cloth. Colours: Weathered Wood and Chipped Sapphire, computer generated text and more Industrious Stickers finished it off. Funny, how after not having used stickers for years and years, these ones just really appeal to me, The fabulous Tim Holtz just always has the edge on products... and yes, after years of resisting it, I have turned into one of his groupies, I freely admit it..... The final one, a mix of Victorian Velvet and Antique Linen and Walnut Stain for the colours, words computer generated and finished with some ideaology bits. This little heart is a die from the Eileen Hull ATB set of dies. Hope you like this little set of cards. They are a bit different in style from the earlier ones, but I had great fun messing about with the textures. Hope you are having a good weekend. Thanks for taking the time to visit like always and stay inky!!

Hi everyone and lovely to have you dropping in here. Today I am sharing something new that I started doing and that has been great fun. Over the last few weeks I have been inspired by seeing little cards created following Stephanie Ackerman's 52 Card Pick-up classes. I loved them so much, I wanted to do my own. One of the places I saw them first was on Anne Kristine's beautiful blog. Stephanie started this a year ago, so I am running a year behind, but who cares. I am having fun, and to me that is what this is all about. You can find out more about this project HERE if you are interested. Basically you alter a pack of 52 playing cards, one for each week of the year so to speak, but of course you can do them when you want. I am making them in batches of four cards and will be sharing them as such. This is the first. All of the cards use the same kind of mixed media techniques, collage, background stamping etc. etc. Just things I love to mess about with. Stephanie gives lots of ideas (plus down loads and ideas for words and sayings if you want). .. Hearts are a recurring theme in her example and I decided to follow that, finding my own words and sayings however. The pack I am altering is just under ATC size, so they are quick to do really, specially if you do them more or less in batches. They are also a great way of using up some of these left overs we have all flying around. Stephanie punches holes in hers to put them on a book ring. For the time being I have decided to keep mine just as loose cards. I may put them together at some later stage. I am keeping the backs of mine really simple, - just covered with some scrapbook paper and their number, so I know in what order I have created them and what was going on in my mind at the time. Here you can see the backs of them. What is the point of these cards you may ask???? Stephanie gives many reasons, here are just a few of them, in her words: That is why I created this class. 52 hand-created cards of encouragement to reflect on, to look at, to share, to use as support and as reminders for ourselves and for others. That is why I created this class. Whether you create one card a month, one card a week or all at once, the important thing is that you stop and take time to create C.A.R.D.S: Create something based on what is on your mind, in your heart and/or in your prayers. Add quotes or verses that apply to your thoughts and prayers. Reflect and remember WHY you are creating & WHAT you are creating. Decide to make “that choice” “a change” or say a prayer for what your card represents. Share it with others...and then keep on going. Well, there you have it, - that is also why I started to make these cards.... I am going to add these cards to the Moo Mania challenge, where the theme is old book paper. Hope you are having a good week and make a little time to be creative!!

Hello everyone and thanks so much for taking the time to visit. Today is my day to show a project over on the Calico Crafts blog. I had great fun playing with some of the yummy products available from Calico and I created an altered box for my 52 pickup altered playing cards. If you want to see more and how I altered my box, please click HERE. I just created a new set of 4 cards, numbers 9, 10 11 and 12. They are created in pretty much the same way. You can find a description and a link HERE And here are some details of the individual cards: Heart cut free hand from old book papers, issue tape,a Tim Holtz journaling ticket and computer generated words. Same sort of thing, another part of the same ticket, a little vial label and some remnant rubs. And more of the same, though this heart was cut with a Sizzix die This one is a bit different. I fussycut a small part of one of the yummy new Tim Holtz Wallflower papers and collaged it on to the card that had been covered with tissue wrap and Gesso. I also used one of the Wendy Vecchi Love to make Art stamps for the background. I then blended it all together with some Bundled Sage Distress paint etc. Here is a little close up still. The box I made for it hold all of my cards just perfectly, - I really hope you will take the time to have a look at it and maybe also check out the shop. They have just added some fabulous new wood flourishes etc. Well, that is it for now, don't forget to come back tomorrow, because that is when the new challenge blog A Vintage Journey will be starting!!! Thank you so much for visiting and I hope you are having a day full of creativity and hopefully some sunshine too!!

So while I was in Asia in February, I missed getting to take classes from Stephanie Ackerman at Right at Home Scrapbooking in MA. I've been a fan of her work for a long time and I was bummed about the timing. So after I got home, I went ahead and signed up for her online 52 Pick-Me-Up 2014 class. I worked through the first twelve cards over about a week and a half or so. I mostly followed the class instructions, but gave it my own spin, of course! Starting with the base... I have TONS of Project Life...
