Napkin Fold cards definitely have the WOW factor! They are made from a single sheet of cardstock that folds inward to form a kind of pouch that would be perfect for hiding a gift card or some money. You can decorate the card with co-ordinating pieces of patterned paper and an embellished belly band to hold everything together. Fold Template 1. Start with a sheet of cardstock measuring 11" x 11". Score at 23/4" and again at 81/4". Turn the cardstock 90 degrees and score again at 23/4" and 81/4". 2. Fold and crease along each score line. Your cardstock should look like the photo below. 3. Find the centre point of the cardstock by measuring 51/2" from each edge toward the middle. Mark the centre with a small dot. 4. Fold each corner into the centre. Notice how my score lines line up as I fold. 5. Open the cardstock out again. It should look like the picture below. 6. Now it's time to fold it up. Start by pushing in on one side. Hold down the large triangle with your fingers, then bring the corners of the cardstock back into the centre. Do this on all four sides. (I practiced this step with printer paper a few times before I got the hang of it.) 7. Now take one corner and fold it backward, lining up all the edges and points. Crease well, and repeat for the remaining three points. 8. You've now finished creating the base card. All that's left is the decorating... the fun part! 9. To decorate, you'll need three sheets of co-ordinating patterned paper. One that measures 5" x 5" and two that measure 43/4" x 43/4". 10. Start with the paper measuring 5" x 5". Use your trimmer or a craft knife to cut from one corner to the other so you end up with two large triangles. 11. Cut both triangles in half again so you end up with four smaller triangles. Set them aside. 12. Cut the two 43/4" x 43/4" pieces of patterned paper in the same way so you end up with four triangles from each sheet of paper. Now cut each of these small triangles once more so you have eight tiny triangles from each sheet of paper. 13. You should now have four large triangles and sixteen small triangles. 14. These triangles will fit perfectly inside each of the creases you made on your card, with a little border around the edges. If desired, ink the edges of your patterned paper and cardstock before you adhere them together. 15. Cut a 51/4" x 51/4" piece of neutral cardstock for the centre of the card. This is where you will add your handwritten message so make sure the cardstock you use isn't too textured or dark in colour. Add a stamped image and sentiment then adhere to the centre panel of the card with double sided tape. 16. Create a belly band from 12" strips of cardstock and patterned paper. You can make the band as wide as you like. I cut a 2" strip of vanilla cardstock, a 1" strip of red cardstock and a 3/4" strip of patterned paper for my band. 17. Fold the band around your card to get the correct measurement. Overlap and secure the ends at the front of the card. 18. Embellish a little disc or tag to cover the join and add some extra strength to the band. 19. Fold your card and slip the band over to keep everything together. Done!
Hello stamping friends. Welcome to Funky Folds Blog Hop #3. We are a community for like minded paper crafters who love to make cards with funky/fancy/fun folds and to share our ideas. Funky actually means “modern and stylish in an unconventional or striking way”. We are featuring cards that are not your usual rectangle/square portrait of landscape style cards. Each and every month the blog hops will have and 'anything goes' theme as long as your card has some type of 'funky' fold. I've made for you today a Star Explosion Pop-Up card using products from the beautiful Stampin' Up! Country Woods Suite found in the new 2024 - 2025 Annual Catalogue. I've used the tutorial and measurements from Sam Calcott at Mixed Up Craft. When the card is closed it looks fairly inconspicuous but when you take off the belly band and open the card up that is where the magic happens. Here on the front I've layered Basic White, Pool Party and the Country Woods DSP for the front of the card and then I've used Misty Moonlight for the belly band and added DSP, Ribbon, stamped images and die-cuts using products from the Country Woods Suite. On the inside is a scored centre panel that all folds in neatly together when the card is folded closed. When opened the centre circle piece pops up and stands up a little off the card for that added element and dimension. As well as using the Country Woods DSP I've also adde some of the Country Lace DSP to layer on some of the panels and used more of the products from the Country Woods suite to embellish the inside. I coloured the floral images in using Stampin' Blends Alcohol Markers and used the same floral images on the front as what is on the inside to keep that continuity from the outside to the inside. Stampin' Blends Used Flowers - Light Peach Pie, Light & Dark Petal Pink, Light Summer Splash, Light & Dark Pool Party, Light and Dark Boho Blue, Light Balmy Blue, Light Lemon Lolly Leaves - Light & Dark Mossy Meadow Teapot - Light and Dark Gray Granite I've even added some Basic White Panels on the back for you to write your message. This is such a WOW card when you open it. It's one of those cards that you hand deliver to your best crafting friend just so that you can see their reaction to when they open it. I do hope you like my Funky Fold that I've shared with you today. I just love how it turned out especially with the use of the Country Woods Suite products. This is another amazing suite that I've fallen in love with. Next up is Bronwyn Eastley from Tasmania, Australia with her Funky Fold. I can't wait to see what she has made for us. SPRINGY THINGY CARD TUTORIAL It's time for me to share my weekly Tuesday tip or technique. This tutorial fell out of my tips/techniques book as I moved it last night and so got chosen for today's effort. It makes a card front that the receiver pulls open and the card opens out like a spring to see an inner 20cm square area. Images of a completed card using this technique are below these instructions. Practice this on some scrap paper first. MATERIALS 20cm square piece of card stock or decorative paper of your choice. Pre colour the card if you wish. I'll use white card stock so you can clearly see what to do. Pencil, rubber, ruler, craft knife, craft mat and bone scorer. HOW TOO 1) On all sides measure and make a light pencil dot at the 5cm, 10cm and 15cm mark. On my sample I will use a black marker so you can see what I did easily. 2) From the 5cm mark at the left and right side measure and mark a dot at the 10cm mark 3) From the 10cm mark at the left and right side measure in and mark a dot in at the 5cm mark from each side 4) From the 15cm mark at the left and right side measure and mark a dot at the 10cm mark. These dots make a large diamond. 5) Score between all these dots. In my image I have drawn dashes to show you were to score 6) At the top 15cm mark score down to the right side of the diamond. At the 15cm mark at right edge, score across to the bottom of the diamond. At the 5cm mark on the bottom edge, score up to the left side of the diamond. Lastly at the 5cm mark at the left edge, score across to the top of the diamond. See dashed marks I have marked for you on my sample. All these score lines will be mountain folds. That is you bend the scored line back on itself to make a mountain. 7) At the 10cm mark on all sides score into the points on the diamond. See dashed areas on my sample. These scored lines and the scored lines for the diamond are all valley folds. That is you bend the scored line in on itself to make a little valley. Here is my sample with all the scored lines bent to their respective mountain and valley folds. 8) Now all you do is gently fold the card in on itself. Start on one side and then work your way around. If you have all the scored correct lines and folds it sort of winds in like a spring. It should look like this at the front and this at the back. Rub off all marked pencil dots. After I made my sample above for you I painted the card stock with white gesso, sprayed it with various sprays. Stamped and added embellishments to turn it into a steam punk card. I then layered and stuck it to a base card. As mine is fairly embellished it doesn't fold completely flat. In my previous post, I reviewed Paper Folding Templates, by Trish Witkowski (Apple Press, 2012). The author expressed the desire for the templates to be used as "a springboard for creativity". Today's blogpost projects are based upon a couple of the wow-factor designs in the book. First up, a couple of Fold 'n' Twist Cards, based upon the Twist Fold card on page 151: The design is true to the template, whose design lines are similar to these: I simply dropped a design into the format. (The circle of text in the centre says "Happy Spring!", in case you were wondering.) After that straightforward use of the format, I decided to experiment and turn the idea into a flower shape: With inner petals No inner petals These cards are big fun in that they have a TARDIS-like effect - bigger on the inside (once they have been opened). Like so: To open, pull petals in opposite directions. Remove the seal first! Tah dah! The text reads " Birthday Wishes". Since I was pursuing a Springtime/flower theme, I then followed up with a hexagonal design. The book featured a folded card with a configuration similar to the Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt pattern: I played around with it, edited it down and tried different folding methods to come up with these: The basic pattern is like this: I have always been partial to swirls! Pinch the corners to make the triangles, fold them flat to the centre, spiralling them round. So there you go - start with a template, then experiment. Here are your downloadable printables (my original designs, not using the templates from the book, but using the ideas in the book as a starting point): TwistFoldSpring.pdf TwistFoldBirthdayFlowerPetal.pdf TwistFoldBirthdayFlower.pdf FoldingFlowerGetWell.pdf FoldingFlowerThinkingofYou.pdf Have fun making your surprise-factor cards. A Star Fold Card for almost any Occasion: To make this 6" card, you will need to start with a piece of paper measuring 12 X 12. Laying it on your mat you can easily find the center of one of the sides. Mark the 6" point and draw a line down the paper for about 2". Now you can draw a line from the corner left to the center line, making sure it is 12" long, do this again of the other side from right corner to center at 12" point. Now you can trim off the corners using your paper trimmer. Sometimes it helps to cut of the excess at the top of the triangle, also you can now erase your pencil line. You will now find the center of each side of the triangle. Using those lines you will now score from center point on one side to the center point on the other side. You will do this three times. When you have finished scoring it should look like the picture above. Now using the score lines you just finished place this score line on the 1 3/4" line on the trimmer and score a second line, do this on the other two sides. When all score lines are finished it should look like this. Now with the paper laying flat on the table top fold in all score lines nearest the center, and the second score line on all points should fold out . Points or triangles will interlock together. Here are a few more examples of this card worked up. I used two different paper packets for these projects both were from CTMH, Florentine was one and the other was Mayberry, also the color Blush was used for the last card. Thanks for visiting today......have a great crafting day....:-).....Joanie

I have a fabulous display card to share with you today, featuring five little flags that project from the centre of the card, giving it it's name. Despite how it looks, it's not too difficult to create and will fold up nicely for posting in a standard envelope. 1. You'll need one piece of heavy patterned paper measuring 10" long x 6" high, one piece of cardstock measuring 8" long x 6" high, and five 2" squares of cardstock for the flags. Extra patterned paper and embellishments will be needed for decoration once the base is created. 2. Score the piece of cardstock and fold in half to form a 6" x 4" card. Set aside. 3. Place the patterned paper horizontally on your scoreboard and score at 2", 3", 4", 5", 6", 7" and 8". 4. Concertina fold the card, starting and ending with valley folds. You should have three peaks in the centre of the paper and a 2" flat section on each side. Refer to the photo below. 5. Apply adhesive on the back of the 2" flat sections on either side of the patterned paper. DO NOT apply any adhesive to the concertina section in the middle. 6. Line up the adhesive ends of the patterned paper with the sides of the card blank and press firmly in place. The concertina section should be free to fold and unfold as you open and close the card. Set aside. 7. It's easier to decorate the "flags" at this point rather than after you have secured them to the card. Add some patterned paper, stamps, images and other embellishments as desired. Keep in mind that any decorations you add should be flat as they will be included in the folds of the card. 8. Apply adhesive to the half of the "flag" that will attach to the card. Double check before you add any glues or tapes to make sure you're applying it to the correct side. 9. Start by adhering the centre "flag" halfway up the middle fold. I used a centring ruler to make sure I placed it correctly. 10. Now adhere two flags on the first fold, one flush with the top of the card, and one flush with the bottom. 11. Apply the last two flags on the last fold, one flush with the top of the card and one flush with the bottom. 12. Decorate the front of the card as desired. I used a digital image, coloured with copic markers, some ribbon and patterned paper. The card is quite bulky when complete, so you might like to create a belly band or ribbon tie to hold it closed. I think this fold would be fabulous for Christmas, decorated with lots of different sized snowflakes, glitter and snowmen. I hope you'll give it a try!
These Double Stack Display Cards are easy to make, stand for display, and off endless ways to use your creativity.

This card was featured on Pinterest, and I immediately thought it would make a wonderful Mother's Day card for my class. However, 3 of my students do not have their mother anymore, so I changed the sentiment for something more neutral. It is a partial case from Biggan at splitcoaststampers. However, I did change a few things around. I started by punching five 1 3/8" circles, and sponging them with Blushing Bride with the edges Pear Pizzaz. These I folded into dahlia flowers using this tutorial. The stem was die cut using Pear Pizzaz cardstock and the Bouquet die. The stem and flowers were arranged on a Very Vanilla background embossed with the script embossing folder. This background was matted with Pink Pirouette cardstock and then a 1/4" Pink Pirouette ribbon and bow were adhered to the bottom. This was adhered to a Sahara Sand layer, which in turn was adhered to a Blushing Bride base card. The sentiment is "For Being You" (SAB) and was punched using the oval die. The oval was reinserted back into the punch to reduce its size. It was also sponged with Blushing Bride and Pear Pizzaz. Supplies Used: Built for Free Using: My Stampin Blog I also used the script embossing folder (retired) and the Bouquet die.

Many of you commented that you would like the measurement for a card that I showcased on my most recent Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop post. At the time I had not yet re-designed the card for our usual 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" format. The card which I presented for the hop was very oversized and, unless you make your own envelopes or wish to use a 5" x 7" envelope, the card simply was too large. And so, over the weekend, I fiddled around with the original measurements used by the originator of the design, Desire Fourie. Happily, the smaller design still packs the same "WOW" factor and so, today, I will share the measurements and the template. My main colours for this card are Smoky Slate, Blackberry Bliss, Whisper White, Blushing Bride and Wild Wasabi. There are also traces of other colours due to the colourful design I used from the Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper. The base, in whatever colour you choose, will be the "normal" 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" cardstock scored down the centre at 4 1/4". For the front whatever you choose to do does not affect the remainder of the design of the card. You probably want to think of a theme. For the inside, which is what the whole template and instructions are all about, cut a piece of cardstock to 8 1/4" x 5 1/4". Score at 4 1/8". Next, follow the template which I show below: This template should be a large enough file to print out. The remaining images in this post are reduced files. To recap, along the long side, cut 7/8" from the edge from 7/8" until 7 3/8" on each side. Then, along the short side, down the centre. Each line is a score-line as follows: 7/8", 1 5/8", 4 1/8", 6 5/8", 7 3/8". Do not extend the score-lines into the skinny areas above and below the cut-line. Along the skinny piece above and below that centre, score as follows: 2 5/8", 4 1/8", 5 5/8". Yes, there are a lot of measurements in the eighths, but in order to make the design work in the 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card format, it was necessary. The template also shows you the mountains and valleys that you will fold. Once you've decorated the inside piece to your satisfaction, you can adhere it to the base card. This photo will show you where to put the glue/snail/tape (your choice) in order to make the design work: It's a bit fussy but the reaction of the recipient is well worth it. Have fun! The front of my card. The inside of my card. I've decided to enter my special fold card into the SUO Challenge since they are asking for fun fold cards.
