Today's card is for the Fancy Folds Challenge over at the Art Impressions Blog. My card is what I consider a "gate fold". I used the Art Impressions stamp called Madge and the sentiment also from AI called How Old. Using the Spellbinders Large Oval & Labels Eighteen dies I created the "gate" by folding the die cut and attaching it to the white inside sentiment piece. I then trimmed the oval image. The papers are from Echo Park's This & That 6x6 pack. The inside sentiment is an old hostess set called Happiest Birthday Wishes from Stampin Up. Here's very simple way to make beautiful bows. You'll need "bow machine" The plastic one is quite slippery and not very easy to make bows, so I made smaller one with thick cardboard and it's not so slippery. Select ribbon spin the ribbon around hmm... words are missing, hope you understand from my pictures.... Make a knot Tighten the knot Turn around and slide the bow off. Third Grade students studied the life and art of Van Gogh. We learned the difference between impressionism and post impressionism. Impressionist artists were very interested in painting outdoor scenes where they could show the effects of light. They are also known for leaving their brush marks showing. Post impressionism came after the impressionist movement. These artists also left their marks visible but instead of representing the natural world they were much more interested in showing their inner emotions. This way of painting was perfect for Van Gogh who is known not only for his great art but also for his emotional problems. In class we discussed his relationship with fellow artist Gauguin and saw how Van Gogh represented his thoughts on himself and his friend in his chair paintings. Students were then challenged to create their own chairs. Each student had to think about what kind of chair would best represent them and how the things in the surrounding space could describe them as well. *check out the website on how van Gogh made his mark under art games and great sites!

I love you with all my heart and am so blessed to be married to my bestfriend, soul mate, and hero! For this card I ventured into the art of spirelli and string art. It was something I saw in one of the challenges I enjoy participating in and decided immediatelt that it was something that I wanted to try. I love the look of it and am always looking at ways to expand my knowledge on ways to add to my paper crafting. For the spirelli part I used the scalloped eyelet oval frames that Terri provided to participants of a challenge within the BossKut Forum. Using the print and cut option with my Gazelle, I printed out my sentiment and cut the circle around it. For the string art, I got the sail boat pattern for free and sized it appropriately to my card. Another technique self taught and I'm thinking that you may be seeing this used again!
