"...In particular, she [Marguerite] contributed to building up that new country [Canada], realizing the determining role of women, and she diligently strove toward their formation in a deeply Christian spirit." Pope John Paul II at the canonization Mass further noted that she watched over her students with affection and confidence "in order to prepare them to become wives and worthy mothers, Christians, cultured, hardworking, radiant mothers." Marguerite Bourgeoys, born the sixth of 12 children in Troyes, France, at the age of 20 believed that she was called to religious life. Her applications to the Carmelites and Poor Clares were unsuccessful. A priest friend suggested that perhaps God had other plans for her. In 1654, the governor of the French settlement in Canada visited his sister, an Augustinian canoness in Troyes. Marguerite belonged to a sodality connected to that convent. The governor invited her to come to Canada and start a school in Ville-Marie (now the city of Montreal). When she arrived, the colony numbered 200 people with a hospital and a Jesuit mission chapel. Soon after starting a school, she realized her need for coworkers. Returning to Troyes, she recruited a friend, Catherine Crolo, and two other young women. In 1667 they added classes at their school for Indian children. A second trip to France three years later resulted in six more young women and a letter from King Louis XIV, authorizing the school. The Congregation of Notre Dame was established in 1676 but its members did not make formal religious profession until 1698 when their Rule and constitutions were approved. Marguerite established a school for Indian girls in Montreal. At the age of 69, she walked from Montreal to Quebec in response to the bishop’s request to establish a community of her sisters in that city. By the time she died, she was referred to as the “Mother of the Colony.” Children from European as well as Native American backgrounds in seventeenth-century Canada benefited from her great zeal and unshakable trust in God’s providence. Marguerite was canonized in 1982. * * * * * * « Si la prière ne part pas du cœur, elle n’est qu’un songe qui ne produit rien, car la prière doit être dans la pensée, la parole et l’exécution. » – Sainte Marguerite Bourgeoys * * * * * * Bishops Young and Old Today I will be in London, Ontario to take part in the episcopal ordination in St. Peter's Cathedral of William Terrence McGrattan as titular bishop of Furnos Minor and auxiliary bishop of Toronto. Tomorrow, in Toronto's St. Michael's Cathedral there will be the historic ordination of the first Asian-born bishop in Canada, His Excellency Vincent Nguyen, titular bishop of Ammaedara and auxiliary bishop of Toronto. At his ordination, Bishop Nguyen also will become Canada's youngest bishop at the age of 43. Coincidentally, today Canada's oldest bishop (who celebrated 65 years of priestly ordination and 45 years of episcopal consecration in 2009), turns 95. Mgr Joseph-Aurele Plourde (8th bishop and 7th archbishop of Ottawa [1967-1989], though frail, continues to delight in life and news of the church, plays bridge several times a week and otherwise keeps busy at the Jean-Paul II Residence in Ottawa. To each of them I offer the traditional wish, ad multos et faustissimos annos!

It was almost 30 years ago when my classmates and I piled onto a Quebec City-bound school bus to get what, for many of us, became our first glimpse into French Canada. Now that I think about it, this student jaunt also marked the beginning of my wandering ways. Since then, I’ve travelled far and wide to 30 countries (and still going strong) but, recently, I felt the undeniable pull to return to where it all started in my neighbouring province. And so I did. There are plenty of things to do in Quebec City, but here are my top suggestions.
I was recently asked if I preferred my time in Montreal or Quebec City more, and while Montreal is a gorgeous city, decorated with thousands of green

We can pretend to be something we're not in life, but nothing can change the #TRUTH in our hearts. It is what it is. . Truth is a hot topic right now, in many countries around the world. We have to stand up to push for leaders to face the truth in their hearts. They owe it to their people, and in fact, to themselves. . This one is for #JamesComey, who it seems chose to stand up for the truth, throwing himself under the bus, instead of appeasing for the sake of feathering his own nest. Hi, all! Here it is, Friday again!! And you know what that means - it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on! Are you ready? I know I am - this is a special post for me, and one I am really most sincerely whooping about! Read on to find out why - let's get started! *&*&*&*&*&*&* Last Sunday was the second check-in date for this year's Hands2Help Challenge, and I have been receiving emails all week from non-bloggers who want to share their quilts or progress. It has been a humbling experience to see all these wonderful quilters sewing their little fingers off to make quilts to benefit others, and I can't wait to show you all of them. Be patient - I made collages of most of the submissions, as many had multiple quilts to share - and there's still a LOT of pictures to follow. At the end, I'll let you know just how many quilts are in this batch! Amy A - for Little Lambs Barb B - one for Quilty Hugs, two for Little Lambs, four for Victoria's Quilts Canada Becky M chose to donate locally Beryl R sent quilts to Quilty Hugs, Covered in Love, and one for a Hometown Hero! Bonnie C. sent this beauty to Quilty Hugs Ceara N. made this one for Little Lambs! Christina S sent this to Little Lambs Here's a story to go with the next four quilts, which came from Connie W.: "My four quilts to date have gone to Comfort Quilts. This group of quilters celebrated it's seventh anniversary earlier in the year. Quilts had primarily been for children and donated to the local Ronald McDonald House. Other quilts were donated to the local hospice and several area nursing homes. With the shutdown, RMD House stopped accepting quilts for the protection of its very vulnerable population. Our group leaders found a new outlet for the children's quilts, a hospital based pediatric office. Comfort Quilters gathered outdoors safely this week and submitted 142 quilts! The variety of quilts, fabrics, patterns and eye candy was wonderful and so inspiring. Here are pictures of the ones I submitted." Deb S. sent these to Little Lambs Heidee L wanted to share her progress! Juanita H sent these eight tops to Victoria's Quilts Canada Karen K sent these to Little Lambs Kat S sent these two quilts, plus one other, to her Hometown Heroes - her children's teachers! Kathy W. sent seven quilts to Little Lambs and one quilt to Covered in Love Laura M sent this to Quilty Hugs Linda M sent three quilts to Quilty Hugs and two to Covered in Love And now, another sweet quilt story, this time from Erin in Michigan: "I dropped off a quilt top at the quilter’s at the very end of January - and was able to gift it to my daughter’s teacher just in time to honor our 1-year anniversary of staying home. Her teacher has taught their class virtually this whole year, and has amazingly been able to support these kids from their homes and kept them feeling “together” as a class when we had to stay apart. She’s our family’s hometown hero :)" Erin from Michigan Loris M gave this to her Hometown Hero Lorraine B sent these three to Quilty Hugs - and has already made up quilt kits for next year like the one in the bottom right! Marilyn O sent these to Little Lambs Melody M chose to donate locally, making quilts for micro preemies in her local NICU Michelle P sent two quilts to Quilty Hugs and two quilts to Little Lambs Nancy C sent these four cuties to Little Lambs Pat E sent these two to Little Lambs Pat K sent the quilt on the left to Quilty Hugs, and the others to her local NICU Paula A made these two for Jack's Basket Paula D sent these two to Little Lambs Sheila P sent this quilt to Victoria's Quilts Canada Trudie C. sent these three to Little Lambs... and she also sent six to Jack's Basket! So, if I am adding correctly (certainly not a certainty because my brain is MUSH), that is 107 quilts just from non-bloggers in the last month. I'll try to do a total of what has been shared so far across all the check-ins soon - it's exciting! So - - - can I get a whoop whoop for all these fabulous (non-blogging but incredibly generous and creative) quilters? *&*&*&*&*&*& And now it's your turn! What's got you whooping it up this week? What's making you do a little happy dance? Share! We want to dance right along with you, And it's always more fun to dance with friends! The party will stay open until Sunday midnight. Hope to see you there! Hugs! Sarah

This listing is for one finished handmade vegan yarn Scandinavian blanket. This super-soft, handmade chenille, Scandinavian blanket is knit in black and cream, using Alize Puffy More yarn in colour 6270 (100% micropolyester). The graphic two-colour design incorporates traditional Scandinavian motifs, most commonly seen in Norwegian sweaters and blankets, including the 'selburose' design along the top. This Scandinavian blanket is double-sided, with the design in inverse colours on the reverse, giving it a unique (and very luxe) look, and a heavy, cozy feel. This Scandinavian blanket was made from an original I LOVE MY BLANKET pattern. All I LOVE MY BLANKET finger-knitted blankets are perfect as a gift for that special person, or as a beautiful addition to your home decor. Whether you use it as a throw blanket for snuggling under in front of the tv, or with a favourite book; or as a statement piece at the end of your bed, this blanket is sure to feel as cuddly as a warm hug every time you wrap it around you! COLOUR: Cream and black. SIZE: Approximately 39" x 42" (99 cm x 107 cm). Please note that chenille yarn is stretchy and that because this is a hand-knit item, size may vary slightly. ABOUT THE YARN Chenille yarn is soft and fluffy: It feels a bit like terry cloth or a plush toy. This vegan yarn is warm and cozy, especially due to the double-layer knit style. There may be some shedding from your Scandinavian blanket with initial use - this should stop once the blanket settles. Because your Scandinavian blanket is hand-knitted, there may occasionally be loose ends from where the yarn ends were tied and woven in and have come loose with use. Because this is pre-looped yarn, the chances of your Scandinavian blanket unravelling are extremely low. Simply weave any loose ends back into the blanket, or, if you wish, you can sew them in with a needle and thread. CARE INSTRUCTIONS All I LOVE MY BLANKET items are machine-washable in cold water and can be tumble-dried on low (per manufacturer's instructions), but hand washing and hanging your Scandinavian blanket to dry is a good way to extend its life! SHIPPING FREE DELIVERY and tracking to addresses in CANADA and USA!!! All blankets are sent in Spacesaver Premium Vacuum Bags, inside a poly bubble mailer, in order to maximize packing efficiency. You are free to keep and reuse the vacuum bag for storage. When you receive your Scandinavian blanket, it will be compressed and compacted from being packaged. Don’t panic! Chenille yarn compresses and recovers well. A quick shake and rub with your hands should fluff it back to normal. You can also throw it in the dryer for about 30 seconds on low temperature. Do not over heat! I hope you love your Scandinavian blanket as much as I enjoyed making it for you - thank you for supporting a disabled knitter!
While I have not had the chance yet to meet Riel Nason in person, I have seen one of her quilts in real life - at Quilt Canada - and it was fantastic. Riel is creative and playful in her designs, and reading about them on her blog - The Q and the U - has always made me smile. Riel is a Canadian, living in a small town on Canada's east coast in New Brunswick. When Riel asked me if I would share a review of her new book, Modern Selvage Quilting - I jumped at the chance. Riel is not just a quilter, she is also a published fiction author too. Her quilting book is full of her own voice and her own stories. It is a pleasure to read and funny too. All the photos in this post are from the book. Riel points out that selvages are just another kind of fabric scrap. Modern Selvage Quilting provides you with advice on how to save your selvages and how to select and use them in projects. Riel provides three different methods for effectively piecing the selvages and each is clever, fully illustrated and easy to execute. There are instructions for several projects in the book as well, from pincushions to pillows to placemats to quilts. Riel shares many tips as well, all of which focus on using selvages easily and effectively. While Riel gave me a copy of her book for this review, I would have bought my own copy if she had not. If you are interested in selvage quilting, this is the book to get. Now I have to admit to not saving many selvages, although I have a few jars of the prettiest ones. But, armed with this new book, I might just have to change my practices - the projects are just so appealing. Riel asked me which quilt I would make if I had an unlimited supply of selvages. I have to say that I am in love with that giant star and it might just be the push I need to save my selvages. As part of the blog hop introducing Modern Selvage Quilting, I get to give away one copy of the book. If the winner is in the U.S.A. they will get a hard copy and if the winner is from the rest of the world they will receive an e-copy. To win, leave me one comment letting me know if you save your selvages or might start doing so and what you have or plan to make with them. The give away will be open to enter until 10 pm MDT on May 22 and I will draw a winner randomly after that. Please, please, if you want to win a copy of this lovely book, make sure that I can find you. If you are not sure that your email is connected to your comments, put it in the comment too, or your instagram handle or your blog location. If I can't find the winner I will draw again. You should check out the rest of the book reviews on the blog hop: May 10 Riel at C&T Publishing Blog May 11 Cindy at Live a Colorful Life May 12 Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl May 13 Diane at Butterfly Threads Quilting May 16 Krista at Poppyprint May 17 Casey at The Studiolo May 18 Leanne at She Can Quilt May 19 Sandy at Upstairs Hobby Room May 20 Mel at The Quilting Room with Mel May 21 Riel at The Q and the U Best, Leanne

Gail thought she would post this announcement as an item in her store. She enjoys to paint or draw people and animal portraits ... A few photos of completed commission portraits are listed in www.gailthomasart.com. Gail works from photos or models. A lot of the times though because of the distance between the portrait clients, a series of photos of the person seems to work the best . Giving also a descriptive history of the person you would like to be painted, allows her to add visual information to the portrait. Like a story board. Gail started people and animal portraits when she was around 15 and have been hooked ever since. If there is a photo of your loved one that you have thought about having a portrait done and did not know who to take your idea or photo to. GailThomasArt is the place Portraits can be painted on fabric using Angel Paints. The fabric will remain soft for sewing. All the fabric is washed and ironed before presenting the completed painting to the client. One could take the completed family member portrait on fabric and make it into a quilt or add it to a quilt. Portraits on paper (with watercolor, pastel, or pencil) When talking to your local picture framer ask for acid free museum matting, UV protection glass and then a frame that fits you and your personal decor. Prices per portrait will vary because of the different sizes and mediums that can be chosen. This is a $5.00 catalog on example portraits and price ranges in the different art mediums that Gail & Company can send to you. A fun and unique Japanese vintage fabric loop/knot Japanese bag kit for beginners and beyond. It's also reversible! The kit includes everything you need to construct the bag. Boro means 'mending or patching' in Japanese, and Sashiko means 'little stabs' Originally, boro and saskiko were used as a utilitarian purpose, but over the years many patterns and motifs have evolved. The kit includes my backstory and some more detailed history. The materials are mostly vintage Japanese pieces of cotton with occasional hemp, linen or asa fiber. There might be a few novelty fabric as well, but most have been sourced from vintage kimono. haori, hippari and the like. Because they are vintage, there may be an occasional flaw but they are clean and come from a smoke-free home. These fabrics come from my personal stash, gathered over the years. This bag is the perfect size for a lunch bag, crafters tote, or a wonderful gift for that 'hard to buy for' person in your life. PLEASE NOTE: Fabrics and lining is an example of what kinds of fabrics are in the packet. Fabrics change all the time so these are examples only. What's in the kit 1. Fabric to cover both sides of the bag 2. Fabric for backing 3. Sashiko thread, needles and thimble 4. Reverse lining for bag. 5. Explicit instructions and back story 6. Pattern for bag, easy to enlarge or reduce. The bag measures apx. 14" W x 18" L Please note: These are hand assembled kits and no two are alike. All linings/reversible are different.

Our sensory literacy sensory bin series continues with one of my favorites. Little Red Riding Hood is a classic tale with so many play possibilities. Simple peg characters and a beautiful forest are accented with felt details everywhere. The story has come to life in this largely handmade sensory bin that even includes a free copy of the book. Act out the story as you read it. Imagine different endings and make them come to life. Explore the story concepts in 3D and imagine different story endings. Will Red finally be the heroine? Included: 1 handcrafted felt tree with long trunk and removable leaves 4 handcrafted flat evergreen trees 4 handcrafted felt flowers to pick 1 handcrafted felt basket with pocket for flowers 1 handcrafted felt bed with mattress, pillow and flower quilt 1 handcrafted felt evergreen tree (doubles as scoop) 1 handcrafted felt forest path 1 handcrafted felt fallen log 1 large wolf peg person 1 Granny medium peg person 1 wood cutter medium peg person 1 small Red Riding Hood peg person 1 wooden house 1 small plastic plants 2 pieces of ground greenery 2 tree cookies 1 moss rock 2 little birds 6 small plastic trees 1 cardboard cup 1 free copy of Little Red Riding Hood as a special gift Play ideas: Read the story and act it out as you go. Make up new stories and endings. Perform a play using the characters and props. Change the fill from loose (sand, beans, rice, paper shred, alphabet pasta, fabric petals) to textured (felt, cardboard, astroturf). Use without fill for an on the go playset. Add cups to sort items by color, shape or texture. Free exploration. Let imagination guide the way. The bin is NOT included to save on shipping costs. I use bins with snapping lids from Walmart which come in a 4 pack for $10. Very inexpensive compared to shipping the same size from me to you! The bin pictured is approximately 12"x18"x6" but anything around that size will work. This item is shipping from CANADA but I use a shipping service and USPS shipping and labels for US customers. This dramatically decreases travel time. I use both first class mail and Priority Shipping. If purchasing more than two items (including all sensory fills, sensory sets and felt sets) please message me for a custom listing with the appropriate shipping costs. This item contains small parts and may not be suitable for children under 3. Please supervise young children especially those still mouthing toys when playing with any sensory bin. We are located in Canada and use a shipping service for packages which allows us to use USPS for our US customers and offer better rates to our Canadian and international customers. Please allow approximately 48 hours for US tracking numbers to become active in the USPS system (after your initial shipping notification arrives) or feel free to message for the internal tracking number for my shipping service to show the movement before it enters the USPS system. Please note our processing time is currently 1 to 2 weeks for production. This does not include shipping timelines.
Our Bambino Plus mid bunk beds are perfect for the transition out of crib to bed! The bottom bunk is low enough to the ground, so that rolling out of bed causes no harm, and for the older sibling that sleeps on the top bunk, the bed is of mid height, 4 feet high (48") to enable parents to comfortably read all those favourite good night stories! and of course, the lower height enables easy making of the bed on the top bunk! The distance between the beds using 6" mattresses for headroom is 26 inches. When using 6" thick mattresses, the top of the bottom mattress is 9" from the ground. If you would like to use 8" thick mattresses, then please convo me so that we can adjust the bed frames accordingly. Made completely out of birch multiply, sanded to a smooth finish, custom stained to allow the wood grain to show through and finished off in a satin lacquer.
