Sisterhood is one of Tasmania’s newest hospitality offerings, located in the waterfront suburb of Sandy Bay, Hobart. Wanting to put the exciting new all-day eatery on the map, we designed a warm, inviting and textured environment with boho charm inspired by a recent trip to the tropical paradise of Tulum. Accommodating takeaway, dine-in, large groups and furry friends, Sisterhood offers openness for the sense of community as well as cosier areas for solace. The interior layers textures and earthy tones to create an elegant and calming space that reflects the coastal location and imbues a sense of nostalgia for a holiday escape. Timber and rattan have warmth; dark emerald is inspired by Tulum’s rainforests; and burnt-orange evokes Tasmania’s coastline.

Inspired by the intimate izakayas of Tokyo, this cozy bar and restaurant is the latest endeavour for Japanese Chef Tatsuya Yamazaki. We were commissioned to develop a brand that was timeless and evoked a sense of craftsmanship and structure. The interiors are inspired by traditional Japanese carpentry, and so in developing the brand identity and brand motif we wanted to infuse structural elements and adopted the timber profile of the ceiling and shelving detail into the brand. With warm timbers throughout, materiality played an integral part of the design concept and influenced the textures and finishes specified across the service collateral, creating an integrated and united visual experience.
