I CALLED BYRON MARTIN of Logee’s Greenhouses for his advice on some begonia questions, and then—like plant-mad people are inclined to do—we quickly ricocheted from..
Brugmansia versicolor (Angel's Trumpet) is a vigorous tropical shrub or small tree laden with exceptionally large, pendulous, trumpet-shaped, peachy-apricot flowers, 15 in. long (37 cm). Blooming from midsummer to fall, they hang straight down from the branches and literally cover the plant. The blossoms start out creamy-white, and after a day or so they turn a lovely salmon-peach color. Sparkling against the foliage of large, smooth leaves, the flowers emit a wonderful fragrance for hundreds of feet around - especially in the evening. This flowering shrub adds a brilliant accent to any garden.

Angel’s Trumpet ‘Theas Liebling’ is a heavy blooming hybrid with double to triple, frilly flowers that range in color from saturated pink to almost red under ideal conditions. The long, trumpet-like flowers emerge as pale-yellow flower buds and transform into pink pendulating blossoms. The fragrant flowers boast upturned petals with frilly edges and curly petal tails. ‘Theas Liebling’ performed well in our test gardens and blooms best when given full sun and consistent fertilization. This plant prefers temperatures 85° and below.
This plant finally bloomed for us after some struggles to figure out how to grow it well in Berkeley. It is such a beautiful species that should be more widely grown.
De brugmansia soorten zijn onderverdeeld in twee grote groepen: de koude en de warme groep, de verschillen zijn heel duidelijk merkbaar.

(USPP 14,817 expired) Oh, my! Every now and then a new plant comes along so stunning it makes you fall to your knees and weep. Actually, we do that when we back into our spiny plants, but that's another matter. This Terra Nova angel trumpet introduction is a tetraploid version of the popular Brugmansia 'Sunset'. The huge, tricolor variegated leaves are dark green in the center, with narrow blotches of light grey-green toward the edge, surrounded by a 1" wide creamy white border. The 60" tall deer-resistant clumps are adorned with huge, fragrant, flowers that open creamy white (occasionally with a yellow blush), then finish with a light peach blush. The flowers dangle from the branches in midsummer and again in late summer. AMAZING! Maintenance: Brugmansia 'Snowbank' is a very low maintenance perennial. We do not recommend doing anything in the fall when they are grown in the ground. Any cleanup of old stalks is best done in spring prior to re-emergence, since the plant needs these old stems and leaves for winter protection. In colder climates, where angel trumpets aren't winter hardy, cut some canes in fall and store them overwinter in a bucket of moist peat moss, which can be kept above freezing. Growing Conditions: In the garden, angel trumpets prefer well-drained soil and light levels from very tall, open shade to several hours of full sun, depending on the intensity of the summer heat in your area. Brugmansias can also be grown in containers, but they have an extensive root system to pick up enough moisture for the large leaves, so you'll need a large container and the ability to provide plenty of moisture several times a day. Natural Impacts: Angel trumpets are typically pollinated by hummingbirds and their insect counterpart, hawkmoths.
Some cool plants to frame this beauty. To the left Lapageria rosea 'Montenegro Red', below is an Impatiens hybrid, to the right are Impatiens niamniamensis and Streptocarpella caulescens.
An intoxicating nighttime fragrance arises from the double, golden-orange, trumpet-shaped flowers with fancy double skirts at the bottom of the blooms and upright tails. Angel’s Trumpet ‘Orange Julius’ flowers will sometimes have a flower-within-a-flower form. The flowers bloom in cycles, from spring to fall, from the upright branches. If you live in a northern climate, the plant is easily wintered over, either in a sunny exposure inside the home or put into a dormant state in a cool spot that doesn’t freeze. Like all brugmansias in this genus, Angel's Trumpet ‘Orange Julius’ loves full sun with plenty of water and abundant fertilizer.

Danielle Rollins Bike riding is huge in my gated community. It seems very safe as well with very limited traffic at slow speeds. I have decided to get a bicycle and started researching. Of course I have fallen in love with a vintage wicker bike like this, but boy are they $$$. A nice one is about $2,000. And my Bartesian arrived yesterday and I inaugurated it with a Jalapeño Lime Shrub to which I added fresh jalapeño slices. It is lime juice and jalapeño and apple cider vinegar and it was fantastic. I ordered a second Bartesian for the lanai for entertaining. Bartesian Jalapeño Lime Shrub I spent the day yesterday in the garden - my Brugmansias have all started blooming and they are gorgeous! Regarded as one of the most fragrant Brugmansias, Brugmansia x cubensis 'Charles Grimaldi' (Angel's Trumpet) is a vigorous tropical shrub or small tree laden with impressive quantities of exceptionally large, pendulous, trumpet-shaped, soft to golden yellow flowers, 15 in. long (37 cm), adorned with strongly recurved petals. Blooming from midsummer to fall, they actively open and close depending on the time of day.
