I have been a knitter for over 25 years now and have tried several things but Brioche knitting was something that just did not interest me too much. Since double knitting and brioche are such close neighbors I thought it would be nice to combine them. The stem of Winter Birch is double knit and its leaves are brioche. I used one skein of Mint for the light color and one skein of Weathered Green for the dark. This yarn has a very dusty look and feel, wonderful for this scarf. Errata: the needle size stated in the book is US 3 (3.5mm) it should read US 4 (3.5mm). Sorry! Also, you will notice that the chart on page 79, very top row, is missing the sl1yo symbols, instead you see blank grid boxes. Be sure and sl1yo those stitches.

Brioche has been on my list of knitting skills to master for a while now, and if you’ve been following the blog since its early stages, you’ve likely heard me mention this before. It all started when I spied Stephen West’s Askews Me Shawl [http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/askews-me-shawl] while scrolling through Ravelry, and fell in love with the beautiful contrast of colours. I impulsively purchased the pattern along with multiple skeins of possum wool [http://www.woolyventures.com/fibr

With sheer horror I remember the moment we had to make our own knit “couture” in home ec class. It could be anything, from a tote bag to a pair of socks, or a scarf, or a tiny doll... the list goes on. I thought that a knitted bow tie for Father’s Day was a great idea, but expectation vs reality hit and the final result looked like a pastel wool blob asking to be tacitly discarded.

After consulting stitch dictionaries and making swatches, it became clear that fisherman’s rib and brioche stitch made a similar fabric.
The Fluffy Crop Top is a light and airy, simple top in brioche knitting. It is knit top down in a double strand of silk mohair, so it drapes beautifully and is not too hot on a summer day. You do not need many techniques to complete this top, so it is also suitable for beginners in brioche knitting. Sizes: 34 (36) 38 (40) 42 (44)“ Your bust measurement: 78-84 (85-89) 90-95 (96-102) 103-112 (113-120) cm Bust measurement (finished garment): 92 (98) 104 (110) 117 (126) cm The top is supposed to be rather short, but you can easily add extra centimeters, if you want it in a regular length. Choose a size that gives you a positive ease from around 11 cm – if you want the top to fit a little tighter, go down a size, if you want it a bit looser, go up a size. Recommended yarn: 75 (75) 100 (100) 125 (125) g“Kid Silk”from Drops Design (210 m/25g). The colour vanilla has been used for the sample on the front page. Alternative yarn: 75 (75) 100 (100) 125 (125) g “Tilia” by Filcolana (210 m/25g). Note: If you want to knit your top longer, than stated in the pattern, you will need to have an extra ball of yarn. Gauge swatch: Remember to wash and block your gauge swatch, because brioche knitting tends to stretch out after wash. It should measure: 13 sts x 34 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm in brioche with a double strand of silk mohair. Note: 34 rows appear as 17 sts in brioche, when you count them. Recommended needles: 4,5 mm: 60 cm or 80 cm circular needles. Note: As a “one-woman-show” I translate all my patterns myself. As a native German speaker, minor grammar mistakes in both the English and Danish patterns can occur. The patterns have been test knitted, so you should be good to go - if you have any questions or problems with the understanding, don’t hesitiate to contact me at [email protected] - Thank you so much for your support!
