Hi everyone! Long time, no see... again... I have not actually made any kind of cards/crafts in over a month! It's about time that I start setting aside some time to do that... I don't have a card to share today, but I do have some school projects that I thought were cute & fun, so I decided to post them for ya! I'm also going to show you some cute projects that my sister has been working on (she's very talented, but she doesn't think so)... :) I'm so sorry that I haven't posted in such a long time, I'm going to try and be better... This was a super simple project that my sister made using some of the scrapbook paper from my stash. We just found a cute patterned paper, chose solid colored cardstock to match, and then she traced their hands and stacked them... VOILA! I think it came out really adorable! Here's a "no soliciting" sign that she made. She just picked up a frame, some scrapbook paper & stickers, and some ribbon and put this little beauty together! My sister also made this Cat in the Hat poster that goes along with the new common core standards in Kindergarten. When she showed me this, my jaw dropped! Super cute! We had our annual Family Literature Night last week and my booth was featuring the author/illustrator, Mo Willems. I LOVE HIS BOOKS (and so do the kids)! To make this poster, I just sketched out the characters, colored them with chalk, and traced them with black Sharpie. The idea for coloring with chalk is a technique I stole borrowed from my sister. :) Saw the idea for these balloons on Pinterest (a website I feel I may be addicted to). These were extremely easy to make; just a balloon and a Sharpie... Here's a shot of the entire booth all put together! Here I am with my friend, Shelly... We aren't too cool to wear a pigeon headband! The headbands were really easy to make and the kids LOVED them! It's literally just a blue circle, white circle, black circle, and yellow triangle. The kids glued them together, then we attached them to a sentence strip and put them on their little noggins. It was really cute to see all of the little "pigeons" walking around the auditorium! :) Well, there's a little snapshot of what I've been up to... I hope to be back soon with some sort of card! :) Thanks for stopping by!!!!!
We have been busy working on an author study on Mo Willems {he's famous for the pigeon books}. My little firsties fell in love with his books after we read Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late! This one book led my little readers asking for more Mo Willems books and how could I deny them? So...we read every Mo Willems book from the school's library and read them again and again and again. We compared characters and author's purpose among the books. After reading Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!, we read Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, and The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog. I came across this helpful drawing tool from an old issue of Time for Kids magazine {glad I saved it!} it helped the kiddos perfect their pigeon illustrations {so easy, by the way!} OK, now I can't find the picture of the drawing tool from Time for Kids {as soon as I find it, I will make a link for you...sorry about that.} Here are a few pigeons drawn by my little firsties... {love} {love} {love} So, then my kiddos got busy writing a new version of Don't the Pigeon... {they did such an awesome job!} We actually turned their writing into talking pictures using the site, blabberize {this is a great tool for digital storytelling and it's free!} If you want to see or hear our talking pigeons, visit our classroom blog HERE Mo Willems has an offical website with some super duper games and activities, visit the Mo Willems site. I scored big when I came across this little number at This and That Library blog... {click on the image to make pigeons out of cardboard tubes/rolls} {Here is an example along with two DVDs that went along perfectly with our study.} Although, Mo Willems is famous for his pigeon books, he also writes many others. The next two characters Piggie and Gerald {the elephant} were also loved by my firsties. {You have to check out the Piggie and Elephant Dance Game...your kids will love it!} Oh, one more pigeon art goodie...pigeon hats...love them!! And lastly, I found two great files to use at the SMART Exchange to use on the SMARTBoard...I love free stuff!

This handmade teddy bear ears headband is not only the perfect addition to a bear costume, but also makes a great favor for a teddy bear tea.
THIS HAT FITS IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND What I think is important to mention about this hat is that the ears have first been traced on interfacing, than ironed on the chosen fabric, machine sewn together and had wire inserted in to make them malleable. This is the kind of quality rarely found in mini top hats and I am very proud of that. That silly March Hare is at it again, throwing spoons, tea cups and plates all over the place. I love the ivory base fabric with the antique blue clocks and keys print. I paired that with a blue sash and those famous brown ears that you can place any which way you want. My hats are 90% sewn together and not glued like most mini top hats available on the web. This is reflected in my prices. Also, my hats were designed with a moldable, SEWN IN wire brim for a perfect shape ;) SIZE: 4 '' (10,5 cm - brim at it's widest) by 3'' high (8 cm) My hats are 90% sewn together and not glued like most mini top hats available on the web. This is reflected in my prices. Also, my hats were designed with a moldable, SEWN IN wire brim for a perfect shape ;) *All of my mini top hats come in their own hat box for safe keeping! If your hat didn`t come in a hat box, it is either too big or the weight of the box would have put the shipping too high ;) _________________________________________________________________________ Delivery time: Canada: 2 to 9 business days United States: 5 to 14 business days Everywhere else: 6 to 14 business days • The ready to ship hat comes with a black elastic. If you would rather have a white elastic, please specify in buyer's notes. • How to wear a mini top hat: the elastic headband should be worn BEHIND your head, under your hair, not under your chin (I do not recommend wearing it that way). • Due to the handmade nature of my items, slight variations may occur. • All my accessories are handmade from beginning to end by me in a smoke and pet-free environment. • There may be a slight differences in the colors appearance due to a variance in computer monitors, lighting and my lack of ability to make professional product pictures. As a children's librarian, I love Pinterest. When I have a program to plan and need some ideas, it is my "go-to" place to start. We are doing a special story time next Wednesday to celebrate The Very Hungry Caterpillar's birthday, but needed some craft ideas for preschoolers. After searching Pinterest, I found this picture, but there was no pattern. This morning I designed a pattern from the picture and cut out pieces for our program. Here's what I came up with: We started with a 4-inch wide headband. I like to use a paper clip to close it up, because young kids tend to take them frequently off and on. The paperclip gives the headband some give. Then I added yellow and green circles for his eyes and purple antennae. I think that it ended up looking cute and can't wait to see all of our little "caterpillars". Stop by next week for more info from the program.
