***You must have access to Boardmaker 6 or Boardmaker 7 in order to edit these files*** This zip file includes two editable core boards: One Boardmaker file with Boardmaker core pictures and One Boardmaker file with SymbolStix core pictures. Here is a solution to making core boards that are activity specific or relate to your students' curricular activities! * Edit your core boards for different student levels (check out the preview pic) * Add fringe vocabulary words specific to activity-based or curriculum activities * Change the background color to add contrast * The possibilities are endless! In order to maintain the effectiveness of your core boards and the learning process of motor planning, Do NOT Change the Location of the Core Words. When adding fringe vocabulary you may keep the background white or maintain the Fitzgerald color system: Nouns (orange), Verbs (green), Adjectives (blue), Prepositions/Social Words (pink), Questions (purple), Pronouns (yellow), Adverbs (brown). This is a communication board I created for the classroom. This was made for a student who had difficulty completing his seat work in the allocated time period. I layered construction paper and printed off boardmaker pictures. Actual photos could also be used if boardmaker is unavailable for you to use. I used star stickers mounted on foam and then used velcro on each side of the communication board. This is working great for my individual student!

This visual choice board is a simple social emotional learning resource for your special education or inclusion classroom. Providing students with this handy file folder visual support may allow them to express their needs without having to find the words. While this visual was designed for students with autism, it can be beneficial for any struggling students. Even verbal students can have trouble retrieving the words or articulating what they need. Offering this simple visual can aid a student in saying "I feel confused. I need help" or "I feel frustrated. I need a break." Contents: 6 pages of feelings cards 15 feelings in a variety of image options 1 page of needs Sentence starters File folder labels Prep instructions Suggestions for use Savings Alert! This is part of a larger bundle. Check it out here and get all of my visual supports at a discount! This is not meant to be a choice board for 'wants' which is why toys, computer, iPad etc is not provided. Rather this is a support to use when a student is struggling, overstimulated, frustrated, overwhelmed, sick, upset, tired, confused etc. Teachers, paras, aides and therapists who have built a relationship with a student can often guess what the student feels and needs in these moments. However, responding to an outburst, problem behavior or non-compliance with what they are likely looking for reinforces an improper way to request those things. This visual support can help students learn to ask appropriately! ⭐ Teachers like you love this resource ⭐ This resource was a great addition to the communication support I use for my students. I was able to choose a few options at a time for them to choose from and the product comes with many pictures for wants/needs. I love this resource! This has been super helpful with SEL learning and helping kiddos identify what they need and avoiding meltdown. It was easy to put together and it has been a great addition to my classroom! This has been great for my non-verbal and limited verbal to express their needs! The choices are great and it makes a perfect connection between feelings and needs. As we move toward more and more SEL practices, this resource is great at helping students identify how they are feeling and what they can do to help themselves. Please note: This is a digital download. You will download, print, and prep as needed. No physical items will be sent to you.

This digital resource is a 2x2 simple core communication board, which is considered low-tech AAC. These boards use Boardmaker symbols. There are 4 variations depicting the same core words: GO, STOP, MORE, ALL DONE. It can be used to help other's communicate by expressing their wants and needs. More specifically, it can be used to help make requests for actions (i.e., go, stop) in addition to requesting recurrence and termination. An example of how it can be used: The communication partner can model, by pointing to picture, a word such as GO before leaving the house, before making toy cars go, etc. Another example is modeling ALL DONE at the end of each meal, activity, bath time routine, etc. These PDF's can be easily laminated!
A blog about speech therapy.
We are in chapter two of the math book, learning about patterns and graphs. We started with a snack. Because that's always a great place to start. After we tried both apples and oranges, the students chose their favorite and put their names on this paper to show which one they liked. (Or, kind of like a presidential race, which one they dislike the least.) It looked like the class was split pretty evenly (because there was not a column for chocolate donuts.) We noticed that it was difficult to tell which fruit was more popular by looking at this chart. So, I showed them how a graph can help organize information and make it so much easier to tell which fruit had more votes. Go apples! Now we are graphing new information every day. We use clothespins on a poster board graph to organize information about our question of the day. And this crocodile scarf has nothing to do with graphing, but I finally finished crocheting it this weekend and it makes me smile. :) Blurry photo taken by a student.
