Are you already planning your 2021 travels? If you are searching for interesting places to visit then Zadar should definitely be on your travel bucket list. Those who might not hear about Zadar before are in the right place. Zadar is a city on the Croatian's Dalmatian coast. The Old Town is famous for the Roman and Venetian ruins and buildings. There are so many things you can see and learn about while spending your time in this incredible city. In this post, I'm sharing my advice and tips on how to spend an amazing time in Zadar so you can truly enjoy it once you visit it. This post contains affiliate links. Just two days ago I came back home from my vacation in Zadar and wanted to share my experience with you as soon as possible. I've stayed in Zadar for 4 days and 3 nights with my best friend. We booked an apartment called Guesthouse Villa Maggie (not sponsored) and I seriously recommend you check them out if you are planning on visiting Zadar. I love how close everything was. We had 2 minutes walk to the beach and 10 minutes walk to the Old Town. It was very convenient as we traveled to Zadar by bus. We tried to really make out of our stay and use every day to the fullest. Some of the places we visited are in the guidebooks but some of them are probably hidden gems worth discovering. 5 THINGS YOU NEED TO DO & SEE IN ZADAR #1 VISIT ST. DONATUS CHURCH If you already heard about Zadar or visited it in the past then you know that St. Donatus church is something you can't miss out on. Those who love to broaden their knowledge in history and art will absolutely love this magnificent building. Construction of this church began in the 9th century and the constructor was no one else but Donatus the Zadar bishop. An interesting fact is that this church is not used for religious purposes anymore. In the past, it was used as a warehouse and an archeological museum but nowadays it is used as the concert venue as it is very acoustic. The annual International Festival of Medieval Renaissance Music is held there. Photos really don't do this stunning building a justice. You won't have too much trouble finding it as it is situated in the middle of the Old Town. It is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Zadar so you will definitely see a lot of people in this area. I would recommend going there in the morning as there might be fewer people around and you'll be able to fully appreciate its beauty. #2 STROLL AROUND THE OLD TOWN I noticed that a lot of people would only visit the most touristy attractions and would miss out on so many beautiful little alleys that hide some gems worth seeing. There is a beautiful St. Mary's church right across the St. Donatus Church. If you go behind the St. Donatus church you will be able to see an Orthodox Chruch of St. Elias. Cathedral of St. Anastasia is definitely another touristy place but you will realize why as soon as you get there. Each ally has a lot of unique cafes and restaurants so you'll be able to get some rest in between the strolls. Those who enter the Old Town from the Land Gate will be able to see The Five Wells Square and if you need some rest in the shade there is a beautiful Queen Jelena Medijevka Park where you can find a bench to relax on. If you decide to take a left turn from the Land Gate then you will be able to see the first university ever established in Croatia, University of Zadar. From there you will be able to see the crystal clear the Adriatic Sea. These are only a few things you can see if you take your time and walk around the Old Town. #2 DON'T MISS OUT ON SUN SALUTATION You might wonder what Sun Salutation is. Sun Salutation is a creation by a local architect. It is a circle set in the pavement on the Adriatic Sea coastline. It is 22 meters wide and filled with 300 multilayered glass plates. Those glass plates collect the sun's energy during the day and it produces light show from sunset to sunrise. I recommend checking it out both during the day and during the night as the vibe is completely different. It is situated near the sea at the end of the Old Town. You can easily get there if you walk near the coast. This is also one of the most visited places in Zadar so be aware that there are going to be a lot of people there. Especially during the evening and night as the colorful lights attack a lot of families with children. #4 RELAX NEAR THE SEA ORGAN The Sea Organ is another unique creation by the same architect who created Sun Salutation. So the Sea Organ is an architectural sound art and musical instrument played by no one else but by the Adriatic sea. Yes, you read that right. There are tubes located underneath the ground and sea waves are producing the sound. So each time there is different music playing which is so cool and unique. There are large marble stairs you can sit on and enjoy the concert. I'm sure that it is going to be one of the most memorable ones you've ever attended. It is a perfect place to watch the sea, relax for a little bit and just enjoy the moment. The Sea Organ is right near the Sun Salutation so you won't miss it. This is one of the examples of the harmonious work of nature and humans. If you are feeling hot and would like to cool yourself you can have a swim near the Sea Organ and have the full experience. #5 SEE THE SIGHTS AT SUNSET Zadar sunset is something you shouldn't miss by any chance, trust me if you do you will seriously regret it. Zadar sunset is something that can't be explained by words. Experiencing the sun slowly approaching the horizon while the sky is painted by the most beautiful colors is absolutely breathtaking. The sound of the waves makes it even more special. I've watched the sunset in Zadar for 3 days and it was different every single time. Sitting down on the beach or walking along the promenade gives it a different feel and makes you want time to freeze for a moment. I promise you that this sunset is going to be different from any other sunset you saw and it will definitely make you breathless. To make sure that you don't miss out on it you can always check the time the sun will set and head over to the coast. I mean, the Alfred Hitchock himself said that Zadar sunset is the most beautiful sunset in the world. Have you ever been to Zadar? Would you consider putting it on your 2021 travel bucket list? ♥ Follow

Health is something sooner or later we realize is the most important thing. Without good health, nothing else really matters as we're not able to travel, hang out with our friends and family, and after all provide for ourselves. I wanted to share a bit about my journey to improve my gut health. It's been a game-changer for me and my overall health as someone who has a lot of problems with feeling bloated and uncomfortable. I'm excited to pass along some tips that have worked wonders for me these past couple of months. So, here's how I've been taking care of my gut and reaping the benefits of a healthier digestive system. 1. Ditching Processed Foods One of the first steps I took was reducing the processed foods I eat daily. I swapped them out for whole, nutrient-rich options. Fresh fruits, veggies, lean proteins – you name it. It made a noticeable difference in my overall well-being. I noticed that my overall energy levels increased. Finding easy recipes that contain a lot of unprocessed ingredients is one of the best ways to start taking care of your gut health. There are so many amazing recipes that you can make in 30 minutes. 2. Embracing Probiotics Probiotics became my gut's best friend. I introduced more fermented foods into my diet like yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut. They're loaded with those friendly bacteria that support digestion and promote a happy gut environment. I like to drink a glass of yogurt in the morning. As I noticed that I'm lactose intolerant I replaced milk and cornflakes with yogurt and cornflakes. If you haven't tried it you need to as, in my opinion, it is even better than milk. 3. Staying Hydrated It might sound simple, but staying hydrated is a game-changer. Water helps everything in our bodies function better, including digestion. I try to sip water throughout the day, and it has made a noticeable difference in how my gut feels. I always have a water bottle near me and find myself reaching forward even when I might not be that thirsty. Adding lemons to my water or vitamins is another great way to get hydrated and some extra vitamins throughout the day. 4. Adding Fiber to Every Meal Fiber became my gut's superhero. I started incorporating more whole grains, legumes, and fiber-rich foods into each meal. Not only did it keep things moving smoothly, but it also helped maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria. 5. Mindful Eating Practices I started paying more attention to how I eat. Taking the time to sit down, chew my food slowly, and savor each bite has been surprisingly beneficial. It aids digestion and helps me avoid that uncomfortable bloated feeling. A few years ago I read that every bite should be chewed around 40 times and once I started doing it (I don't do it all the time) I noticed that my digestion was so much better and I didn't feel as bloated. 6. Reducing Stress Stress has a sneaky way of affecting our gut health. I made an effort to incorporate stress-reducing activities into my routine – whether it's long walks, reading, or just taking a few deep breaths. It's amazing how much this has positively impacted my digestion. 7. Getting Quality Sleep Sleep is often underestimated in its impact on gut health. I prioritized getting a good night's sleep, aiming for those solid 7-8 hours. It turns out; that my gut loves it just as much as the rest of my body. It gets much easier once you start going to bed and waking up at approximately the same time. I usually go to bed around 11 pm and wake up around 8 am. 8. Regular Exercise I found that moving my body regularly does wonders for my digestion. It doesn't have to be anything intense – a simple walk or some light stretching can do the trick. Exercise keeps everything in my gut moving smoothly. I enjoy at-home workouts the most. I just turn on YouTube and choose workout videos that sound fun and not too hard to do. 9. Limiting Antibiotic Use While antibiotics have their time and place, I became more cautious about their use. I started discussing alternatives with my healthcare provider and explored options that have fewer impacts on my gut microbiome. Opting for more natural ways to boost the immune system is the approach I decided to take. 10. Listening to My Body Most importantly, I started listening to my body. If something doesn't agree with me, I pay attention. Our bodies have a way of letting us know what they need and tuning into those signals has been a crucial part of my gut health journey. I encourage you to research the signs our body gives us. Especially if you are a woman as each part of our cycle has a big impact on your overall health. Remember, improving gut health is a journey that might take some time, not a destination. These changes that I mentioned above didn't happen overnight, and I'm still learning and adjusting what works best for my body. However, the positive impact on my overall well-being has been worth every effort and research I did. If you're thinking about making changes for your gut health, start small, listen to your body, and enjoy the process!

What's this? Another book review in less than week? Not something that happens often around here but if you've read my blog for a while you'll know I go months without any and then several come along at once. Last week I shared my review of Everything I Never Told You by Celeste NG, a book that has had a lasting impact on me and today I wanted to share my thoughts on Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams. 'Meet Queenie. She just can't cut a break. Well, apart from one from her long term boyfriend, Tom. That's just a break though. Definitely not a break up. Stuck between a boss who doesn't seem to see her, a family who don't seem to listen (if it's not Jesus or water rates, they're not interested), and trying to fit in two worlds that don't really understand her, it's no wonder she's struggling. She was named queen of everything. So why is she finding it so hard to rule her own life?' My Review I think it's fair to say 2020 will be a year we all remember, but unfortunately not for good reasons (so far). After the murder of George Floyd in America two weeks ago, the justified outrage all over social media and the protests in the streets here in the UK and America have proven to me that I need to be a better ally. Myself and many others I'm sure have realised that not being racist isn't enough, we need to be anti-racist and we need to be shouting about it! Whilst initially I wasn't sure how to put what I was feeling into words and I was afraid of saying the wrong thing, I've realised that I need to do more. Over the last week I've committed myself to signing petitions, having discussions offline and educating myself. I've seen many books by black authors recommended so I have a long list I want to get through but the one that I saw over and over again and had for weeks before this actually, was Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams. Whilst doing the food shop last week, I spotted it and saw it was the last one on the shelf so I grabbed it. I then read it all in one sitting the next day. As soon as I started this book, I instantly warmed to Queenie. The book has been advertised in a way as a modern version of Bridget Jones and I could see why quite quickly but this book is far deeper than that (soz Bridget). The book starts with Queenie moving out of the home she shares with her boyfriend Tom after they decide they need a break from one another. Despite having many things in her past not dealt with, generally she was happy so this break leads her down a path she never expected. In her mind she was only years from marriage and babies but now she finds herself in a world of one night stands, anxiety and her job on the line. Everything pretty much changes for her in an instant and I couldn't help but feel for her. This book tackles a variety of topics including racism, mental health issues, childhood trauma, relationships and more and I thought Candice approached each one perfectly. I felt angry on Queenie's behalf everytime a new man she met up with mentioned her race and I just wanted everyone to see her for being so much more than that. She was a character that was bubbly, funny, caring, a good friend, had so much going for her and yet she has to deal with so much crap from people who only see her for how she looks. It was infuriating. Parts of the book like this though really put things into perspective for me and I think that's what is so great about it. As a white person, I'll never experience some of the things she did so I felt this gave me a better understanding and allowed for me to be in her shoes for a while. For other reasons though I could really relate to Queenie. I could understand her want to be wanted, her struggles with anxiety, her ability to self-destruct sometimes. She was frustrating at points but also so honest and believable. I also think Candice did brilliantly in making all of the characters feel so alive. I hated Queenie's ex Tom at points and he's not even in the book that much! I loved Queenie's friends, Darcy and Kyazike who I genuinely want to be my friends too and I could picture her whole family so clearly. It was such an easy read with each chapter flowing into the next. I also really liked the use of texts and emails throughout which not only broke up some of the bigger chapters but also really meant you got to go into the depths of her relationships with several characters. Queenie is one of the best books I've read in 2020 and I'd urge everyone to read it. It had me laughing from the first page but also gave me chapters where I just wanted to grab Queenie and hug her. I found it incredibly refreshing to read something so different from all of the other books I've read so far this year and I genuinely feel like it was an education. I'm really keen to read more books from black authors so if you have any recommendations, please let me know! I'd also love to know if you've read Queenie? If so, what did you think?
