Hi all and welcome to my stop on the Quilt It Modern blog tour with Riley Blake Designs. The tour is just getting started, and we have almost two full weeks of fun projects ahead! I had the chance to choose any of the gorgeous Riley Blake solids - called Confetti Cottons - that I wanted to work with and it took me awhile to choose a color palette. It really was tough to narrow it down! I finally decided on these lovelies: (L to R: Peacock, Grass, Daffodil, Aqua, Clover, Sunshine, Melon) These calm, refreshing colors just remind me of the beach - sand, surf and sun! I paired them with my favorite Swiss Dots in gray and created this Raindrop baby quilt (47" x 47"). I recently bought this set of Drunkard's Path rulers from Bloc Loc and I was itching to use them. The set comes with three rulers - two to cut out the pieces, and one to square up the block. My set is the 6" set - you can see all sizes available here. I love that I can use my regular size rotary cutter to cut all of the pieces -- nice and quick! I was able to make two raindrop blocks from 1/4 yard of each color. To sew the curved pieces I used this technique: In the video above I used a different template to cut my pieces, but the stitching technique is the same! Once that curved seam was sewn, I used this ruler to trim it. Pretty slick. It sure made piecing my quilt so much nicer! For each raindrop block I made three curved pieces, and one "point" piece. When the block is sewn together it measures 12.5" square. With a total of 16 raindrop blocks, you'll have enough for a baby quilt! I quilted this one with some organic straight line quilting that's about 1/2" apart. I love the texture of the finished quilt! You can see all of the Riley Blake Confetti Cottons here, and follow along with the rest of the Quilt It Modern blog tour. You can also follow along on Instagram with the hashtag #modernquilttour. It will be fun to see what pretty colors the other bloggers have chosen to work with! And I'll be back tomorrow with an update on how my Little Ruby Sew Along project is coming. Time for another update. I wasn't sure if these new rulers were going to arrive or not, but it appears they have shipped and will make it just in time. So let me introduce to you Bloc Loc Rulers! I was introduced to these rulers at the Small Town Quilt Show in a class by Melissa Corry of Happy Quilting. Recently I taught a class on half square triangles at Quilt Therapy Day and how important it is to square them up. I know it's a pain, tedious, time consuming, etc., etc., but your projects turn out so much more accurate if your blocks are squared up -- right???? (I am just going to pretend that you are reading this, nodding your head and agreeing with me) Well -- the new Bloc Loc Ruler makes this task fun, quick, easy, accurate and I could go on and on, but I will wait to show you at the demonstration and you can try it for yourself! This is a picture of one of the many sizes of half square triangle rulers Bloc Loc puts out. The ruler locks on to that diagonal seam and makes it so simple to square up. Your ruler won't rock and slip .... and oh I just want to jump through the computer with the fabric and ruler in hand and just show you in person. Come out and try one of these, they really will change your life and the way you view half square triangles forever. Bloc Loc also puts out other rulers, for instance have you tried making half rectangles? I haven't tried them, but these will also be making a personal appearance at the Open House with me and we can play with them together! Doesn't this quilt look so cool and look at how accurate those points are! This is a fun pinwheel quilt I found online which uses their half rectangle ruler. A very fun and different twist. And they also have a kite in a square ruler. This quilt is AMAZING and uses the Bloc Loc ruler. Woo hoo! I might even feel like I could attempt this project. Kite in a square I found this picture online Flying Geese and Half Square Triangles Bloc Loc makes both rulers Come out and learn more about Bloc Loc. I will have rulers and a limited number of their patterns available. You can try these for yourself, no purchase required (that's my disclaimer because I know you'll want one or more ...) This demonstration will be Saturday morning at 11:00 ... so just to recap ... here's the information. Tiny Seamstress trunk show - 10:00 a.m. Bloc Loc ruler demo - 11:00 a.m. Quick Curve ruler demo and small trunk show - 1:00 p.m. Missouri Star tutorials - 3:00 p.m. (I will be demonstrating a quick and easy way to do a table runner or quilt) There will be small demos throughout the day for other items. Projects or blocks are made up for your viewing pleasure using Five and Dime, Spare Change, Lemoyne Star, and Missouri Star demos. In addition, Antique Recreation will be there with some fantastic items. How about some random give aways throughout the day, new fabric, clearance items, refreshments, fun, friends, laughter .... What else can I do to get you out? Oh yes, there will be one fantastic drawing at the end of the Open House. You can get a ticket for the drawing for this by 1) bringing a copy of a flyer from one of the stores in Shelley, Rexburg, Rigby or Idaho Falls; 2) bringing the ad from the Jefferson Star; 3) sharing this post on facebook with your friends; or 4) any purchase of $30.00 or more at the Open House will get you additional tickets (i.e. $30.00 1 ticket, $60.00 2 tickets, $90.00 3 tickets .... and so forth). A photo of the grand prize will be posted soon ... so check back. That's about it for today ... off to finish quilting, organize, pack ... and try not to forget anything! Evie~
And of course, a little of that. I don't know which is which so maybe this ought to be titled "A little bit of everything." Pretty fabric. That's always fun. These bundles are collections that will be in shops now that it's finally August. (Finally? I know...

I finally finished trimming (Bloc Loc Rocks!) all the HSTs made from an indigo layer cake I fell for on MSQC. There were 42 blue and white paired blocks, sewn around all 4 edges and then cut diagonally across twice. Then the trimming. It is well worth the time. Then, I pulled out a quilt pattern I have been dying to make- Starburst. However, I had so many HSTs and did not want to make one huge quilt, so I made two for comfort quilts. I think they will need a border and the asymmetrical one is missing 2 blocks, so I have to scare up some indigo color to make the last two. I just love, love indigo. These two do not seem like too many to me!

Rulers for quilting can be tricky! There are so many out there. Really. There are a lot!!! I sometimes get all caught up on the quilt ruler hype and then end up with these piles
I always had a vision for this quilt – using only dotted fabrics of all sizes and only in black and white. I used great big dots and pin dots and everything in between. It made a ver…

Piecing Tips
It's been a busy week since Block 5 for Moda BlockHeads. I'm at a retreat as you read this, 19th Century Patchwork Diva retreat to be exact. So, I'm writing this before I go.... fingers crossed blogger posts as I have scheduled!!! Internet reception is sometimes hit or miss, at the wonderful retreat in East Texas, Greenbriar. Great food, fellowship and sewing, compensate well for not being able to post to Instagram or Facebook as I would like, but I will definitely try! With that said, I may not be able to respond to questions or comments you may make on the blog. I'll have phone and iPad with me, so again fingers crossed that I can respond with the iPad. If you are desperate with an issue, please contact me through either Facebook or Instagram, direct message, or by email (in profile). They might get through. Or, go to Carrie, link below. (thanks Carrie!) Here is my version of Path Thru the Woods... 12" finished block CLICK HERE for the pattern. Please look at my sewing tips below. You may wish to print and follow along. Referring to the drawing, and cutting for A and B units, For A, I cut 6 squares ivory solid (Moda Bella 9900-60) and 6 squares assorted green prints (Evelyn's Homestead) 2 3/8" . Cut each square again once diagonally. Also for A, cut 8 squares of ivory and 8 squares of assorted green prints 2 1/2". From these 2 fabrics make half square triangle units. Trim each HST unit to 2". I used a 2 1/2" Bloc_Loc ruler and it was perfect. You will have 16 HSTs. Assembly Step 1 Arrange individual triangles and HSTs as shown. Step 2 Sew individual triangles to HSTs. Press to triangles, not HSTs. Then sew units together in rows. Seams will nest. I flipped (twisted) the intersecting seam and clipped seam allowance as needed to press as shown. Intersections are very flat! Just the way I like them. :-) Make 4 units. I waited to clip away dog-ears until block was stitched together. Step 3 Add B corners, note they are already oversized, so trim this unit to 6 1/2", using the opposite corners and the 45 degree diagonal line on your 6 1/2" ruler for reference. Make 4 of these units. Step 4 Sew units together. Can you see the seam flipped in this photo? It is pinned that way so the seams nest when sewn. You will then need to clip the flipped seam after stitching to lay flat. Here is the entire back, pressed and ready to have the dog-ears snipped. and the block, one more time. Hope you enjoyed making MY block! Isn't it fun to see this coming together!!! How are you coming along with your blocks? Remember to visit all the designers to see what they are doing. Links are below. You will need to copy them to your browser window. Next week is Stacy's week! Watch for some photos from retreat, with internet cooperation, LOL. There are very few fabrics these days that completely knock my socks off. We seem to be drowning in an increasingly large sea of new fabric line after new fabric line with not much to distinguish one from the other. In my opinion of course. And then along came Mostly Manor from Victoria Findley Wolfe and the orange fabric in particular stopped me in my tracks and I knew I had to purchase some. So I did. I've never made a quilt with half triangle rectangles before so that's what I decided to do, using as many bright fabrics as I could find. It was my first time using the Bloc-Loc ruler to trim this particular block and it took me a while to get a hang of it. The long evening shadows meant it became very difficult to photograph it without inadvertently appearing myself. How can you not want to hoard that orange fabric?! I feel it's a happy, cheery quilt which hopefully signals the arrival of warmer, sunnier weather.
