Die Legende um Ritte van Vlaanderen ist folgende – ein junger Mann – Henri „Ritte“ Van Lerberghe kam 1919 direkt von der Front des ersten Weltkriegs zurück und ging ohne eigenes Bike an den Start der Tour von Vlandern. Hierfür musste er sich von einem Anwohner erstmal ein Rad leihen, doch schon kurz nach dem Start attackierte Ritte und konnte sich vom Fahrerfeld schnell absetzen. Sogar soweit, dass er noch bevor er in das Zielvelodrom einfuhr halt machen konnte um am Straßenrand eine Bar aufzusuchen und dort gleiche mehrere Bier auf den Durst zu trinken nur um sich dann wieder aufs Rad zu schwingen in Velodrom einzufahren und das Rennen …
