This delicately beautiful cafe racer uses a Laverda trellis frame and a late-production, modified Commando 850 engine. It was built by French violin-maker Daniel Delfour, one of a group of enthusiasts that runs a classic racing festival. The festival is at Circuit Paul Armagnac in the south of France, but Delfour's bike is now in the USA: it will go under the hammer at the 2009 Daytona Classic Motorcycle Auction in Florida on March 7. This nice five window microcar is a one-off custom-built coupe created by George S. Brauks, a St. Louis, Missouri foundry pattern maker and carriage builder. The front of the car is a 1937 Hudson Terraplane 2 door coupe. The rear part seems to be a 1936 DeSoto. The entire car was narrowed lengthwise on the centerline to create a narrow body width. The picture is slightly photoshopped; the rusty spots are repainted.

Omdat je met een groot wiel harder kan. Toen de fietsketting nog niet bestond, zaten de trappers direct aan het wiel vast. Een rondje van de trappers stond gelijk aan een rondje van het wiel. De grootte van het wiel bepaalde dus hoe hard je kon fietsen: hoe groter, hoe harder. Beide wielen heel groot maken was niet handig. Het achterwiel was voor de stabiliteit. Als je die groter maakt, geef je de fiets alleen maar meer ballast. Logisch dus dat de "hoge bi" (bi was afgeleid van bicyclette) er kwam met een heel groot voorwiel en een veel kleiner achterwiel.
