We're putting together a Joseph story bag for the summer and it's been interesting planning what to put inside! Of course, the most obvious part of the Joseph story is the bit about his fantastic coat. Genesis 37:3 states that the coat is 'a long robe with full sleeves', (or a 'decorated robe' in some translations), so we are justified in making it colourful- it does, after all, have to be something his brothers would envy! I wanted to make a fuzzy felt coat that the children could decorate and change as often as they wanted to so I was looking around for a stiff piece of board for my felt backing. I didn't happen to have any board, but I did have some of those cheap takeaway plastic boxes with lids and that seemed as good as anything else! I cut out a piece of felt to be my backing and stuck it to the bottom of the box lid (so it would end up inside the box when the box was closed). I then cut out a felt coat shape and stuck that on top of the backing and cut up some felt scraps and put them inside the box ready for decorating! It's great, because everything can be put back into the box and kept together all in one place. You'll never lose the board because it's in the lid!
In class we were learning about Jacob and Esau. We talked about their differences. I made pocket chart cards to sort in the pocket chart during our lesson. Then for our craft, each child got a 12x18 piece of construction paper and 2 paper doll die-cuts. They made one look like Jacob and one look like Esau. They also labeled each side and glued on the man. The word strips were pre-cut and in baggies. We would all search for the same strip then glue it on the correct side.
HOW TO BIBLE STUDY This is a five-step bible study printable worksheet that will help you efficiently study the bible. I created this worksheet because I was struggling to figure out what it meant to really study the bible. I could read the bible all day long, but I knew that there was a difference between reading and studying. This bible study worksheet will help you break down the basics of studying the bible. With this bible study worksheet you will: - pick a book of the bible and a chapter to study (recommend one worksheet per chapter) - list any names that you find in the chapter - write down any words that you don't know and look up the definitions - summarize the chapter in your own words - write what the chapter means to you and how can you apply the lessons/message to your life - write down any questions that you have so that you can ask a fellow believer or your pastor Unlimited downloads after purchase!

The full text of this poetry tract card is shown below in the KJV version. Give me strength for today, Lord, Wherever I go. Let no danger daunt me, Whatever the foe. Let no task o'ercome me, No trial my heart fret. I would walk with Thee, Lord, In the path Thou hast set. Let no burden o'ercome me, Give me strength to bear. Then I shall have courage, Whatever my care. Let no grief o'erwhelm me, Wherever I am. Give me strength for today, Lord, Strength from Thy hand. "The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1) Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. -Isaiah 40:28-31 The full text of this poetry tract card is shown below in the ESV version. Last month our community trip was to go to a bowling alley. Before we went I wanted to make sure my students understood the basics of bowling as well as the social skills needed for bowling, so we had some fun during our resource class exploring these concepts. First, we went through a coloring book. This book has descriptions of different bowling terms (strike, spare, gutter ball) as well as concepts like waiting for friends and cheering for our friends. We went over this as a class and made it into a following directions activity as well (Such as color the pins red, color the shirt blue, etc). I also threw in some math concepts, such as this number matching 1-10 cut and paste activity. And also a money worksheet where students have to color in the amount of money needed to buy each item that you might find at the bowling alley. I'm sneaky hiding these math skills into fun bowling worksheets :) Then we had this social skills game that we used two different ways. To introduce I passed out the green cards to students. I then read the blue card and if the student thought their answer fit, they told me what their card said. After we went through the activity as a class, I had students work on these individually as a matching or memory-type of game. Of course we played some bowling Bingo too :) As for our actual bowling experience, it went great! I was a little nervous when some students would step just about over the line into the slippery lane, but luckily no one fell! Also, we were right by the center so when we had balls that were rolling way too slow we were able to walk up and grab them which was really helpful. And check out that high five. That was all natural (aka we didn't tell them to high five and I didn't stage it - which I do sometimes so I can use the picture as a teaching tool) and I am SO proud of that high five and he's proud of his strike! :) If you are interested in the learning materials we used, you can find these (and more) in this Bowling Unit in my TpT Store. Anyway, it was a great experience! Have you taken your students on a bowling trip? If not, you should really think about it! We had a blast!

Paint Paddles are NOT just for mixing paint. :) I Decided to make some Bible Facts Review Sticks. These are based off something I saw on Pinterest. (BTW, I love Pinterest!!!) I have by no means exhausted ALL the Bible Facts, List, People, etc. Matter-of-Fact, I need to finish the one I am making for the Kings of Israel, The Prophets of both the Northern and Southern Nations, The Beatitudes, Acts of Worship, Parables, Jesus Attributes, etc. These will be used as an EAA...for the first few weeks....However, I am probably going to be using them as I teach on the topics, too. Letting each one of the Kiddos ADD a piece as we talk about the subject. I am also considering using this method as a WAY of telling the Bible Story....If I do, You will see it here on the website. Enough of my rambling.....This is how I made these. I purchased these LARGER paddles for $0.28 each at Walmart. Then, I printed and laminated pictures from our Bible Flip Facts Charts....making sure to make ONE picture for the HEADER pic that I glued on the TOP of the paddle. I then attached the prickly side of adhesive VELCRO strips to the paddle. I then attached the soft side to the pics. My thoughts being... LITTLE HANDS would be holding the pictures and I did not want them to get stuck by the prickly Velcro. It really did not take much time to make these....Cutting out the little pieces took the longest time....but, I can "watch" more like LISTEN to a movie or the news while cutting out laminated items. :) Days Of Creation Paddle Putting It In Order. This is how we will use the Review Sticks. I will be handing the KIDDOS a Paint Paddle with all the Velcro pieces in a baggie. Then they will have to PUT the pieces on the Paint Paddle in the CORRECT ORDER. (With my help and encouragement, of course.) Completed! These are ready to go for SUNDAY. We will be using them as this weeks EAA!!!!! I love it when I get to give the KIDDOS something "NEW" to do. And, anything that helps them LEARN their Bible Facts!!!!! Hope you are excited about this FUN, EASY and CHEAP way to help our KIDDOS learn their Bible FACTS! Blessings, Ronda

For the past few weeks, my toddler son has been carrying around his favorite board book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle. He loves this book so much that I put the art work by his changing table. Every time we change a diaper, we talk about the animals and the sounds they make. I am preparing for next school year for my older daughter and I really wanted to gather some activities for Kaleb to do while we were working. I like the busy bag idea found on pinterest.com. Children's lit is one of my passions and it seemed only natural to create a busy bag based on a book. Here is my creation.... My Brown Bear tot bag. By no means do I plan to do "school" with my toddler. I just wanted to include some fine motor activities and fun things to keep him pleasantly occupied. He may or may not be able to do all of the activities provided but I am sure he will grow into them. First, my pride and joy - Brown Bear finger puppets. I had this idea swimming in my head for a long time. I searched and searched the internet for patterns and ideas. I struggled with the fish until I just traced the art work from the two part puzzles. All my links will be at the bottom of the post if you are interested in making these. I found these in a Brown Bear printable pack from 1plus1plus1equals1. They are two part puzzles. I printed them, laminated them, and glued magnets on the back. The cookie sheet makes a portable magnet board. Kaleb loves playing with magnets - taking them off, putting them on. I also found this color wheel activity from homeschool share. Will he be able to match the colors? Maybe. I really just wanted to give him some practice with the clothespins - fine motor activity. I added paper strips with the some of the characters from the book. This could be used two different ways. I would let him color them and then, we would work with scissors to cut them. I love the toddler scissors that only cut paper - no hair or fabric. Scissors may be hard for him but I wanted to give him a diverse selection of activities to do. I wanted to add an eye spy bottle but I didn't have all of the animals to put inside. This one uses printed paper animals to find but I really wanted to use small play animals (maybe let J paint them). So that will have to wait until I get back from 'Merica. I plan on making more tot bags based on board books that we own. They will have several activities in each bag. Just choosing the next book I will work on is the hardest part for me.....Chicka Chicka Boom Boom....Goodnight Moon.... More to come. Hope you enjoyed my creation. If you have any ideas that would be great to add, please let me know. I am always looking for new ideas. Brown Bear Links http://www.homeschoolshare.com/brown_bear_brown_bear.php this file has the color wheel activity and the strips for cutting http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.com/BrowBearBrownBear.html this file has the two part puzzles as well as so much more for an older child, I traced the fish from the puzzles. I just couldn't find a good fish finger puppet pattern. http://www.makinglearningfun.com/themepages/BrownBearEyeSpyBottle.htm here is the eye spy bottle idea with the paper animals and a pre reader checklist, and tons more activities http://sebastiandiaries.blogspot.com/2011/11/felt-fun.html this blogger made a puppet glove based on Brown Bear http://brightappleblossom.blogspot.com/2010/12/felt-finger-puppets.html most of my finger puppets came from here, she even has a printable pattern!
Today, I will share with you a printable paper craft for Passover. This craft is good for Jewish and Christian children as both study the old testament. In this craft, Moses is parting the sea while escaping the Egyptians. All of the Israelites are able to cross the sea, but then the Egyptians are all swallowed up by the sea when it closes back up. This is a perfect craft to celebrate Passover.

I've been a little MIA, but I wanted to share the latest task boxes we made in our classroom! The cool thing about these is they are all made with cheap supplies from the Dollar Tree! We are focusing on increasing our supply of "put in" or level 1 task boxes because we have a lot of younger kiddos this year who need them. These are checkers pieces from a checkers game. Cute smiley face pencil sharpeners! Tip: hot glue the pencil sharpeners shut so you don't have any mishaps ;) All of this silverware came in 1 package and makes a great functional sorting task! These animal letter cards make a great letting matching activity! More silverware, but instead as a "put in" task instead of sorting. Okay, this is the only task that isn't made out of Dollar Tree supplies. Those are paint swatches from Home Depot, so this is totally free to make!
