God gave King Solomon wisdom to be a good ruler, as well as wealth, power and a long life. When He spoke to Solomon, He told him, “As long as you continue to obey Me, these things will be yours.” B…
Our next lesson is about Solomon being crowned KING. Our focus during this lesson will be focused upon Solomon's request for WISDOM. ...
This is lesson eleven in a 13-week series that I used in my class. I wanted one quarter to introduce the Old Testament with a basic timeline of the people and events. The students can learn what happened in the Old Testament and how those events lead to Jesus. These lessons are a combination of the Life Overview Series and other lessons. I will show you what I used to blend several posts into 13 lessons. You can change any to fit your needs. This lesson discusses the kings and how the Divided Kingdom happened. Yes, it is a lot for one lesson, but it is actually doable. We discussed the first kings and how the kingdom was divided. I kept the lesson to the good kings that were considered good kings because they obeyed God. Mostly. They tried. That would be a good application if there is time. The lesson continues to explain the Big Picture. Keep in mind these lessons are slightly longer with very different application reviews. The visuals in this series have had a major update. There are a lot of new information Anchor Charts and new posters for each king. These are updated from the Kings series. The list of kings is a lot for younger kids and boring. Especially if they can't read or just beginner readers. The chart can be enlarged as an engineer print if you prefer a large visual. An engineer print is a large (any size you want) black & white print. Try FedEx or Staples. (Ask if they give a discount for your church.) Click here to download the plain chart with permission to enlarge. I decided to print and laminate so students could hold the list and look at it and I can reuse them in future classes. I put the first three kings of Israel on the other side. The crown worksheet lists the good kings. Students can write whatever you decide during the lesson or after as a review. The lesson is a long one, so I have them write while we study the lesson. It gave them a break and gave them something to do. Click here to download the updated lesson, updated anchor charts and the good kings crowns worksheets. I also used this Bible Timeline File Folder Game. I made the pictures into stickers (which they love!) and the students added to it each week. Even though we studied Jesus and Acts after this quarter, rather than removing any pictures, I printed those pictures already on the page along with a couple that we wouldn't have as it's own lesson. Click here if you want to print the one I used with some of the pictures already in place. This includes the completed teacher's visual also. The original file has a teacher's visual completed. and a student file folder without any pictures on the timeline. All pictures will need to be cut and glued or made into stickers to use. Click here to download the original. Click here to see the previous lesson in this 13-week series. I always teach Esther and used a previous lesson. Click here to see it. Lesson 4: Gentleness Story: King Rehoboam and the Division of the Kingdom of Israel Bible passages: 1 Kings 12:1-24 Introduction...
This past Sunday we had a new lesson! Our lesson was about KING UZZIAH, also known as Azariah. Uzziah begins his reign at the tender age of 16 years old. He starts out as a good and godly King of Judah. He has wonderful influences in his life. His father Amaziah, was a godly King and Zachariah, the PROPHET were strong influences in his life. Uzziah built up and strengthened the Nation of Judah. His armies were so strong that, other nations paid tribute to King Uzziah. He was know for his military strength. Uzziah was also know for his love for the LAND of Judah. Matter-of-fact, he loved the land so much that he planted crops and vineyards all though out the land of Judah and dug wells for all of his livestock. He was a very successful king. "GOD'S AWESOME PLAN FOR MAN" Card. However, after Zachariah, the prophet died--Uzziah begins to "CHANGE." His FAME, SUCCESSES and FORTUNE goes right to his head. He becomes arrogant and full of PRIDE. HE makes a BIG mistake when he entered the temple and offer incense upon the altar. THIS was WRONG. The priest tried to stop him...but, his PRIDE got in the way....GOD punished him and he was cursed with leprosy. What a sad story. So many lesson for us today. PRIDE is a dangerous thing! I want to make sure the KIDDOS understand the difference between PRIDE and humility. So, we added these "new" words to our WORD WALL! We learned a new song this past Sunday. The KIDDOS loved singing this one. :-) If you want to hear this song you can click this link... Uzziah's PRIDE Song. I love it when the KIDDOS ask to "SING IT AGAIN, Ms Ronda." We have a new Memory Verse for this lesson. We sung this Memory Verse to the tune: "If you're happy and you know it..." Most of the KIDDOS were able to tell me the Memory Verse before Bible Class time was over. Our MAP WALL/REVIEW WALL is beginning to fill up. I love displaying our PAST "EXPLORER JOURNAL" activities and MEMORY VERSES this way. It make it so easy to review past lessons. I wanted something "different" for VISUAL AIDES. So, I decided to go small and magnetic. I used CLIP ART and my own drawings to make these visuals. Printed, Laminated and added Magnetic Tape to the backs...This makes them easy to attach to a COOKIE SHEET. As I told the the story, I placed the PIECES onto the cookie sheet. I used the FRONT of the cookie sheet to display UZZIAH'S successes and then flipped the cookie sheet over to tell the REST of the STORY. The KIDDOS LOVED THIS VISUAL!!!! So, during the REVIEW LESSON, NEXT WEEK, I am going to pass the pieces out and have the KIDDOS place them on the cookie sheet!! The clip art I used came from PRINT MASTER computer program, SELF DRAWN Clip Art and http://www.freechristianillustrations.com/clipart.html. (I am in NO WAY affilated with this clip art company. I do not receive any PERKS, COMPENSATION or FINANCIAL benefits by posting this link. I only post the link as a service to my readers.) Our Interactive Bulletin Board is BURSTING with NEW information for the KIDDOS. We have added MORE SMILING (GODLY) KINGS and a NEW PROPHET! I use this Bulletin Board WEEKLY!!! We refer to PAST KINGS and EXAMINE the CURRENT KING we are learning about. The KIDDOS LOVE seeing the SMILING KINGS placed on the board. We have a NEW PROPHET.....I am amazed by the KIDDOS ability to REMEMBER who the PROPHET prophesied too!! (PLEASE ignore the cords....I was using my HOT GLUE gun and Computer the day I took this pic.) Our "TAKE HOME" activity was super simple to make! I found these "Design Your Own Cups" at Walmart. I bought them during their Valentines Clearance Sale... I got most of them at 75% off. However, I did manage to find a few of them when they dropped to 90% off!!! I love Clearance! I designed the insert on the computer....I made one for Girls and one for Boys. To ADD to the "SPECIALNESS" of this activity, I allowed the KIDDOS to use my MARKERS. (OF COURSE they got the "SPEECH." "Do not draw on yourself, Do not draw on your clothes, Do not draw on the table, Do not draw on each other, Put the caps back on before getting a NEW color.") We had no Marker Catastrophes this week!! The KIDDOS also we given 3D Glittery Heart Stickers to add to their insert. They LOVED this project and were so excited to show them to their parents. Our REVIEW GAME this week is: "PRIDE goes before a FALL." The KIDDOS will PULL down a PIECE of the word PRIDE. I have questions on each piece...if the KIDDOS answer the question correctly they get to PULL IT DOWN....I have found KIDDOS love PULLING OFF items. Next week during our Review Week the KIDDOS will be making a Leprosy covered Uzziah. The KIDDOS will color King Uzziah, add a Censer Sticker (this was made from Print Master clip art.) and then add the "Leprosy." The "Leprosy" is Paper Hole Reinforcers. After the KIDDOS stick on the "Leprosy" they can color the "hole" red or yellow. By the way, the Censer Sticker is 3D. I forgot to take a picture of how the censer seems to POP up off the page. I used FOAMY double sided sticker dots to make these appear to POP off the page. This was a wonderful lesson to EXPLORE with the KIDDOS. I LOVE seeing the KIDDOS "GET" the POINT to a lesson. I had one of my KIDDOS say, "Uzziah should have given GOD the credit." Could not have been happier!!!! Blessings, Ronda

Lesson 1 The Divided Kingdom: Rehoboam First King of Judah 1 Kings 11:243-12:19-1 Kings 14:31 & 2 Chronicles 9:31-12:14
VERSES: 1 Kings 3:1-28 MEMORY VERSE: 1 Kings 3:9 "Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart..." BOOK TO REMEMBER: 2 Kings. Write "2 Kings" on small slips of paper and pass out to students at the end of class. PRAYER: May we all pray for wisdom from God that we may live justly before God. SPECIAL SONG: The Wise Man (see March - Songs We Sing In Bible Class #3 on this blog) VISUAL AID: A large Activity (see below) LESSON POINTS: Solomon loved the LORD and he followed in the steps of his father, David, by walking in the commandments of the LORD. One day, King Solomon went to the city of Gibeon and offered 1,000 sacrifices to the LORD. While he was sleeping that night, God talked to him in a dream. God asked Solomon what He should give him. Think of that! God asking Solomon what he wanted and God would give it to him! What would we want if we were asked that question? What could Solomon have asked for and received from God?(Students offer suggestions.) Solomon answered God in a very humble way. He said that God had been good to his father, David, and showed him great mercy for walking before God in truth, righteousness, and uprightness of heart. That meant that David had been doing what God wanted him to do. Solomon said that now God had let him him sit on David's throne. Solomon went on to say that he felt like a little child while he was reigning over the people of Israel, not knowing how to come in or go out. So, Solomon asked for an understanding heart to judge God's people. Solomon asked God who was able to judge over a multitude of people that could not be numbered. Solomon's speech pleased God, and God replied to Solomon, "Because you have not asked for a long life or riches or asked the life of your enemies, but asked for understanding, I am giving you a wise and understanding heart which no one has ever had before you or after you. I will also give you those things that you have NOT asked for, both riches and honor. If you keep my commandments and will follow in your father's ways, then I will also give you a long life." Solomon woke up and realized it was a dream. He then went to Jerusalem and stood in front of the ark of the covenant and offered up many offerings and made a feast for his servants. Soon after Solomon had dreamed his dream, there were two women who had just had babies and both came into Solomon's court for judgment. One woman said that the two women lived in the same house and each had delivered a baby. One woman had laid on her baby in the night and it had died. That woman whose baby had died, got up in the middle of the night, found that her baby was no longer living and, while the other woman slept, took her baby and replaced it with her dead baby. She had switched babies! The woman who was talking said that when she rose up in the morning and was going to feed her own baby, she discovered that the baby was dead, but that it was not her baby, but the other woman's baby! The second woman said, "No, my baby is the living baby and your baby died!" The first woman said, "No, the dead baby was yours; mine was the living baby!" Hmmmm...now how was King Solomon to know which lady was telling the truth? He did not know these two women and he certainly had never seen the babies! What would King Solomon say? Finally, the king said, "You say my son lives and her son died. But you say my son lives and her son died. Bring me a sword!" The soldiers brought a sword before the king. King Solomon said, "Divide the living baby and give half to one woman and half to the other woman." The woman who really was the mother of the living baby said, "Oh, my king! Give her the living child and please do not harm it!" The other woman said, "Let the baby be neither hers nor mine, but divide it." Then the king answered and said, "Give her (the real mother) the living child and do not kill it. She is the mother." Everyone throughout Israel heard of the king's judgment and how wise he was. They knew that God's wisdom was in Solomon to judge the people. The wisdom had come from above. "Older Student" Tips: It is interesting to note that every king of Israel is rated by whether he walked in the statutes of David as we will see in the coming kings' reigns. Solomon realized that, because of David's goodness, God had blessed David with a son to sit on his throne. That son was Solomon and Solomon was thankful. Only one blessing that God promised Solomon was conditional and that was long life. Solomon had to walk in God's ways and obey His commandments before Solomon received a long life. ACTIVITY: Materials needed: 9" x 12" green light green construction paper, 5" x 8" yellow construction paper, scraps of dark green, orange, and blue construction paper, marker or crayons, glue, scissors. Hand out light green paper. Write "Solomon Asks For Wisdom, But Receives Much More!" and "1 Kings 3" at the top of the paper. Hand out yellow paper. Cut yellow paper's edges, resembling a large cloud. Write "WISDOM" in the middle of the yellow paper. Hand out dark green scrap paper. Cut edges off of dark green paper, so that it resembles a medium cloud. Write "RICHES" in the middle of the dark green paper. Hand out orange scrap paper. Cut edges off of orange paper, so that it resembles a small cloud. Write "HONOR" in the middle of the orange paper. Hand out small scrap of blue paper. Cut edges off of blue paper, so that it resembles a tiny blue cloud. Write "LONG LIFE" in the middle of the blue paper. Fold top edge of yellow paper down. Glue yellow edge ONLY in the very middle of the light green paper. Lift yellow paper up. Fold top edge of dark green paper down. Glue dark green edge ONLY under the yellow paper. Lift dark green paper up. Fold top edge of orange paper down. Glue orange edge only under the dark green paper. Life orange paper up. Glue blue paper under orange paper. Press down all papers, so that only the yellow paper shows, and hides all the extra promises that God makes to King Solomon. When telling this story, gently lift up each 'cloud', revealing another promise! BONUS: Students learn "large", "medium", "small", and "tiny".

VERSES: 1 Kings 4:20-34 MEMORY VERSE: 1 Kings 4;29 "And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much...." BOOK TO REMEMBER: 1 Chronicles. Write "1 Chronicles" on small slips of paper and hand out to the students at the end of class. PRAYER: Thank God for His mercy and love towards us. We know when we do God's Will and not our own will that He loves us and cares for us. SPECIAL SONG: The Wise Man (see March - Songs We Sing In Bible Class #3 on this blog) VISUAL AID: Bible map showing Solomon's kingdom, a large Activity to keep in class to read (see below) LESSON POINTS: When Solomon had asked God for wisdom instead of long life, riches, or death to his enemies, God was so pleased with Solomon's request that God had promised Solomon that he would be given wisdom, and also riches and honor. Long life was a conditional promise which meant that there was something Solomon had to do in order to receive long life and that was he had to walk in the ways of his father, David, and obey God's commandments. God always keeps his promises. Always! The people of Judah and Israel were numbered like the sands on the seashore. They ate, drank, and were merry without fear of war anywhere. All nations brought Solomon presents, paid tribute to him, and served Solomon all the days of his life. In one day, Solomon and his people ate 30 measures of flour, 18 measures of meal, 10 fat oxen, 20 oxen out of the pastures, 100 sheep, besides, deer, roebucks, gazelles, and fattened birds. His kingdom was huge! (Look on map.) It included the land south of the Euphrates River, and down to the Gulf of Aqaba near the Red Sea. It was a great area. The best part was that Solomon had peace all around him. Solomon's reign was very different from King David's reign. There were no wars or battles all the days of Solomon's reign as king. It was a time of peace.. God gave Solomon many riches. He gave him 40,000 stalls of horses for his chariots and 12,000 horsemen. He gave him officers who would prepare the food for Solomon and all that came to the king's table; they lacked nothing. Even the horses and camels had all they wanted to eat. God gave Solomon much wisdom and understanding and compassion. Solomon's wisdom could compare with no one else's, no matter where the lived. He was the wisest man who ever lived and he was very famous. He spoke 3,000 proverbs and he had 1005 songs. He spoke of the cedar trees in Lebanon, animals, birds and fish. People came from everywhere to hear Solomon's wisdom and paid him much honor and respect. God truly blessed Solomon. "Older Student" Tips: What a wonderful time to live! During Solomon's reign there was peace and security, much food, and people were happy. During King David's reign as King Of Israel, they felt safe because he ,through God's care, protected them, but there was much unrest. There was war after war after war and much bloodshed. Which king would you have rather lived under, David or Solomon? Discuss the word "conditional" and what it means. A 'measure' is about 6 bushels or 220 liters. ACTIVITY: "The Peaceful Times Of Solomon's Reign" Book Materials needed: five sheets of 9" x 12" construction paper--orange, green, red, purple, and yellow--for each student, stapler, staples, marker, crayons, scissors. NOTE: Due to more drawing than usual, it is helpful if the Bible teacher cuts all 9" x 12" in half for each student and staples ten different colored paper together for younger students. If this is done by the teacher, please skip to #5.) Hand out five sheets of different colored construction paper to each student. Cut all papers in half. Stack ten papers. Staple 'book' three times on edge of book. On cover, write "The Peaceful Tim Of Solomon's reign" and "1 Kings 4:20-34." Open to next page, write "There was food." at the top of the paper. Open to next page, write "It was a huge kingdom." at the top of the paper. Open to next page, write "There were no battles or wars." at the top of the paper. Open to next page, write "Solomon was rich." at the top of the page. Open to next page, write "Even the horses and camels had food." at the top of the page. Open to next page, write "Solomon was the wisest man." at the top of the page. Open to next page, write "Solomon had honor and respect." at the top of the page. Open to next page, write "He spoke 3,000 proverbs and 1,005 songs." at the top of the page. Open to next page, write "God blessed Solomon." at the top of the paper and "Solomon obeyed God" at the bottom of the paper. After writing the words, the students may go back and draw simple pictures depicting the words at the top of each page. This should be a nice book for the students to take home and read.
I had a request to design a classroom that would be studying the Divided Kingdom. Here are some new ideas and printables! I purchased this castle gate for the door. The Divided Kingdom banner is in the file. The shield with the grades is included with a page of numbers that can be added according to what you need. I created this throne area in a corner using this background. I added the throne, a crown like this or this, scepter and old royal robe. I added the the throne that I made for VBS. Click here to see how to make the throne. I added some of these banners and flags in the room, too. These are a couple of anchor charts that are included in the download. I also added this smaller bulletin board which is about 4x3. Everything above is in the download, including the anchor charts, map and door printables. Click here to download. I added this bulletin board and it is big enough to cover a lot of wall space. This is 4 feet x 8 feet. I used this bulletin board paper, so I could pull it off of the wall easily when it is time to come down. I love this paper! You can pull a corner off, and the rest will come down instead of having to take each piece off! I would suggest this purple if it is available and this gold border. I just used what I had at the time. I added this gold border. Tips: Put the background up and the border. Have the crowns divided by kingdom. I put up the Divided Kingdom banner at the top after finding the center/top of the background. I started the crowns at the bottom left with number 16-20. I worked my way up. Once those were stapled on ONE side, I put the other side up starting at the bottom and kind of matching the other side. I added the castle after cutting it down the center. Then I added the Israel and Judah flags on the top. I used the map on the smaller bulletin board, so I used this poster/Anchor Chart from the Divided Kingdom application pack. The last thing I did after I stood back and made sure all the crowns looked ok, was to staple the other side of the crown. To make sure they were straight... all 40 crowns... I held a small level along the bottom, and I stapled it once it was level. A level like this or this. Click here to see the printables to create this bulletin board. See the original bulletin board at Hands On Bible Teacher. All credit goes to Rhonda for the original concept for the bulletin board. The pictures are here to share the printables with you. More ideas and pictures of his bulletin board can be found here.
Lesson: A Walk-through Solomon's Temple (1 Kings 7, 2 Chron 4) Set up room according to the following layout Prepare kids outside the room: Today, we’re going to take a special tour of the temple of God that King Solomon built. Let’s walk slowly and very quietly so we can see all the different things inside. Note: Depending on crowd control, you may choose to have all the kids sit down in the “outer court area” while you talk about different parts of the temple, or have them follow you Conclusion: Today, because of Jesus’ death and life, we are brought near to God. We are washed so clean and made righteous so that God’s Holy Spirit can live in us forever. Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross for me. Thank you for taking away all my sins and washing me clean with your blood. Thank you for your broken body that makes me whole. That you that because of you, I can come to God freely and boldly in your name. I accept you into my heart and my life; live your life in me and through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen! View of set-up room
Lesson 1 The Divided Kingdom: Rehoboam First King of Judah 1 Kings 11:243-12:19-1 Kings 14:31 & 2 Chronicles 9:31-12:14 The first three kings were Saul, David and his son Solomon. They were each a king for 40 years. The divided kingdoms begin in 1 Kings 11. Rehoboam was Solomon’s son and he became the next king when Solomon died. All the people gathered at Shechem to make Rehoboam the king. The people sent word to Jeroboam who was still in Egypt, and when he heard the news, he went to Shechem also. The people complained to Rehoboam that Solomon had made their lives hard and they wanted him to make changes to lighten their burdens. Rehoboam told the people to come back in three days. King Rehoboam asked the elders “What should we do about the people’s request?” They told him if he would serve them and say the right things, then the people would continue being his servants. But, Rehoboam didn’t take their advice and asked his young friends that he grew up with the same question. They suggested that he tell them that he would make it even harder on the people. (His friend's opinions were worth more than the elders'.) Everyone gathered together on the third day and Rehoboam repeated what his friends suggested. The people were not happy and went to their tents. Rehoboam went to Jerusalem and found men from the tribes of Judah and Benjamin who were fighting men. He picked 180, 000 men to restore his kingdom. God told Shemaiah not to fight and to return home. This was God’s plan and they obeyed Him. Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem and built defense cities in the lands of Judah and Benjamin. He built up the strongholds, supplied food and weapons, and put captains in charge. The priests and Levites moved to Jerusalem and they were faithful to God for three years. Rehoboam had 18 wives and 60 concubines. They had 28 sons and 60 daughters. He sent his sons throughout the land to every fortified city. He provided plenty of supplies and found wives for them. Once Rehoboam had established his kingdom, he didn’t follow God’s laws anymore. They were worse than his ancestors had been. They built idols on every ‘high hill and under every green tree.’ The people were corrupt. During his fifth year, Shishak king of Egypt attacked and took over the cities of Judah. Shemaiah the prophet told Rehoboam that he had forsaken God. Rehoboam and the leaders humbled themselves and said “The Lord is righteous.” So, God let the Egyptians take the treasures in Jerusalem. They took the gold shields that Solomon had made and Rehoboam made bronze ones to replace them. Rehoboam stayed in Jerusalem. He was 41 years old when he became king and reigned for 17 years. He did evil and didn’t seek the Lord. His son Abijah became the next king of Judah. This is one of the few kings lessons in this series to have this type of worksheet. Christina Barkley sent me the questions and answers and I created the worksheet. The answers are: 1. friends 2. better 3. three 4. young men 5. scourges 6. ten 7. scared Click here to download. The application packs contain any extra posters, worksheets, maps, etc. specific for the king(s) listed. Each set is different and may contain printables that will be used for more than one king. Who? What? When? Where? Why? & How? This Sunday we will be officially on to lesson two of the Divided Kingdom. Since I am blessed to teach a lesson one week and then REVIEW the lesson the next week...each lesson last me two weeks. This really is a blessing, as I am writing these lessons. Sometimes, LIFE gets me going in about a 100 different directions...I am sure you ALL have been there!!! So, what is LESSON TWO about??? It is about Jeroboam the very NAUGHTY King. We are going to be focusing on Jeroboam's wicked decision to place Altars at Dan and Bethel. We are going to talk about IDOLS and what can become IDOLS in our life. God's Awesome Plan For Man--Time Line Card I want the KIDDOS to understand the HISTORY in this LESSON. I want the KIDDOS to get the fact that Jeroboam had his own justification for erecting the altars---after all, he was worried about the people's allegiance. (I want them to understand that we can NEVER JUSTIFY SIN.) I want them to know that Jeroboam was sinning against GOD and leading the people of Israel into sin. I want them to understand that GOD had promised Jeroboam that HE would be with him....AS LONG AS JEROBOAM did what GOD wanted...but, sadly, Jeroboam chose to be naughty. There are so many life lessons found within the story of Jeroboam. I am attempting to BRING those stories out as we Explore this lesson. Our Prophet Time Line. We will be introducing 2 more prophets this week. The YOUNG PROPHET~that was sent to Jeroboam to WARN him. The OLD PROPHET~that convinced the Young Prophet to sin against GOD. Again, there is so many LIFE altering lessons found in this story. My main focus for the KIDDOS will be to NEVER listen to ANYONE trying to tell you it is OK NOT TO OBEY GOD!!! Our "WORD WALL." We will be adding the word IDOL to our wall this week. This is the "technical" definition. I will also explain that ANYTHING we LOVE can become an IDOL. The KIDDOS have 2 'NEW' geographical places to FIND on the map. We will find DAN and BETHEL. I will try my best to explain Jeroboam's reasoning for placing the altars at Dan and Bethel. I want to point out that these two places are a type of "book ends" to the Northern Nation of Israel. Our Memory Verse this week will be Leviticus 19:4. I will often use a portion of a verse as a memory verse for the KIDDOS. I want them to GET the POINT of the verse...and since they are ranging in age from 4 1/2 to 7...I do not want to STRESS them out over a really LOOOOOOOONG memory verse. BTW, If one of the KIDDOS does NOT have the memory verse memorized "WORD FOR WORD" but, they can tell me the meaning of the verse...that is JUST FINE BY ME!!! I want them to UNDERSTAND why the verse is IMPORTANT!!! We will be singing this Memory Verse to the tune of Frere Jacque. That will help them get it memorized! I normally inform the parents the "tune" we sing our memory verses too...that way they can SING/REVIEW the Memory Verse during the week. Tune: "If You're Happy and You Know It..." We will have another NEW SONG this Sunday. This song is sung to a familar tune... If you know the song, "If You're Happy and You Know It..." Well that is the tune I use for this SONG. I know the KIDDOS will LOVE to sing this SONG. I like the fact that this song explains in a nutshell what led the Nation of Israel into captivity. Our "TAKE HOME" activity will be a 'Paper Bible Pop Up.' At least that is what I am calling it. :) This is constructed out of card stock paper. The little holder is neon green card stock...it is folded like one of those "TABLE TENTS" you see on restaurant tables. However, attached to it is a paper BIBLE. The KIDDOS will color the BIBLE and then we will staple the Bible Pages to the edge of the NEON GREEN Table Tent. That is what gives the Bible the 3D effect! The KIDDOS will then GLUE their Ribbon Bible Bookmark down.... (I have the RIBBONS attached to the back of the activity....but, it will be up to the KIDDOS how they want to glue their Ribbon Down. After typing ALL of that...I sort of felt CONFUSED...So, I decided to add a few more pictures to try and SHOW you better what I was failing at explaining. :) I felt the Scripture Printed on the "TAKE HOME" activity was very applicable to the lesson....Jeroboam did not KEEP the COMMANDMENTS of GOD... BUT, WE WILL!!! Our Review Game is one you have seen before....I do REUSE Ideas....Especially if the KIDDOS enjoyed it. So, this is how we will "PLAY" this Review Game. We will sing a song that goes along with the LESSON. (The Kingdom Was Divided, A Prophet is A Messenger, or Jeroboam Was Naughty.) However, I will say "STOP!" randomly throughout the song. The KIDDOS will have to stand still in whatever HOOP they are in. I then let them take turns rolling the die. The KIDDO in the HOOP with the corresponding number that the DIE lands on will have to answer a question from the lesson. I like this activity...it get the KIDDOS singing, moving, thinking, and excited!!! An added BONUS---this can be "played" with SO MANY DIFFERENT STORIES!!!! Invest/Make It ONCE--USE IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER again!!!! Our Explorer Journal Activity is so much more simple in nature. We will be adding DAN and BETHEL to our OWN MAP. The KIDDOS will color their own MAP of the Divided Kingdoms...and then they will stick a 3D POP up ALTAR at DAN and BETHEL. We will be doing this activity NEXT Sunday. SO, by that time the KIDDOS will understand the importance behind this story. Hope you can tell how excited I am about teaching this lesson. I will say, teaching the History of the Divided Kingdom to 4 1/2 -7 year olds is not without its challenges. BUT it is so worth the effort!!!! I am thrilled at how they are SOAKING in these stories. Blessings, Ronda

After we did this Bible study, and this Bible study, we continued reading through the Old Testament in the Story Bible by Catherine Vos. We read through Judges, King Saul, David, Solomon, and now we have arrived at the divided kingdom and the time of the prophet Elijah. Gresham has really ramped up his “I […]
I found these great bulletin boards on a Facebook page I belong to. Thanks to Laura Cann for permission to share them with you. Please note that the ladies at the Southside Church of Christ in Rapid City, South Dakota put the boards together. It was a group effort. So, thanks ladies for the photos and for sharing your bulletin boards here! I appreciate it! These are not in any order. Since they are not mine, I just have the photos for you to use for inspiration. This Divided Kingdom bulletin board is a large board. The background is gray fabric (not paper). I like that the castle is cut in half. ☺ Note: I just (3 Jan 2018) stumbled on this bulletin board at Hands On Bible Teacher. Credit goes to Rhonda for the original concept for the bulletin board and sorry I didn't see it earlier. That is what Pinterest is for! Although I believe in giving the original designers the credit. Check out the website for a lot of Bible class ideas and songs. Click here to see the printables to create this bulletin board. It looks like a small bulletin board was covered to use as the land. The wording and top people and scroll is around it on the wall. They attached plastic grapes to make it pop. The bulletin board has the background with the purchased birds to make it pop. Look for these birds in October. I see them at craft stores and dollar stores. The brook has sparkling gift shred that the kids will love! This board also has the main design on the bulletin board. The scripture and wording is around it on the wall. I like the 'fire of the Lord' coming down!
