Tsutsu is a sweet little bear knit in one piece, totally seamlessly, from the tip of his nose to the tip of his toes. Pattern available in english and french. It includes instructions to knit the little bear, three different sweaters and a beanie with three variations. Everything to get your little bears all set for cold weather. Instructions are written to be worked either with DPNs or magic loop. First thing to say is that Tsutsu is a tiny bear : fifteen grams of wool, 14 cm tall, and not so much time to make him. But he is so big in heart that he will give you or your dear ones a huge amount of love and tenderness ! He can stay in your hand and travel in your pocket ! He can sleep right next to his little human’s pillow and always be there to receive whispered secrets, or even little worries. A perfect little project to make gifts for your loved ones, small and grown up, and to use up your scraps or your favorite and cherished miniskeins. You must be warned that Tsutsu doesn’t like that much being alone ! So be prepared to be asked for extra little bears. And maybe to be carried away in a the whirlwind of little bears making ! AMOUNT OF YARN ° Knitted in fingering weight yarn, one little bear only requires 15 g (about 60 m / 66 yds) of yarn to come to life ° Count about 10 g (about 40 m / 44 yds) to make each sweater and about 3 g (about 12 m / 13 yds) to make a beanie. Yardage indicated above goes from the minimal yardage to make one bear, its sweater and its beanie, to the maximal yardage to make three bears, their sweaters and their beanie. As shown in pictures, Tsutsu and friends are knit with Annabel Williams naturally dyed yarn (you’ll find all the details about the yarn below). As for all my patterns, the process is thought for the maker’s happiness of having a character truly emerging during the knitting, a very lively little soul appearing at a early stage of the making then growing organically stitch by stitch. No seaming. No assembling. All the finishing done as you go, and face features added right from the beginning. When you’re done with the last stitch, you’re done with your little woolly friend too. Tsutsu is made all in one piece from the nose to the paws. He grows organically from your needles, with no seaming at all. All along, instructions are given to tackle the required finishing as you go, leaving only a small opening to close at the very end of the making. Of course Tsutsu is tiny, so you must have a taste for fiddly knitting, but everything is provided in the pattern for you to succeed and have pleasure knitting him. Tsutsu Bear pattern has been tested and fully tech edited. About the difficulty level : i would rate it between advanced beginners and intermediate. The only true prerequisite is knowing how to knit small circumferences in the round. On this basis, I worked at providing detailed instructions as well as extra tips and pictures, to offer a smooth process. If you’ve already knit a sock or a mitten, something small and tubular, then you can do it ! Instructions are written to be worked either with DPNs or magic loop. Specific techniques : short rows using yarnovers or simple decreases with detailed instructions provided YARN Annabel Williams Bluff Cove 4ply minskein 100 % Falkland merino wool, 20 g / 80 m / 87 yds Colors : Engine House for Tsutsu Engine House and Kilmar For Guilly (the very brown bear) Natural Undyed for Frankie Chaptel Point, Atlantic Breeze, Natural Undyed and Eden for the sweaters and the beanies NEEDLES AND GAUGE Tsutsu bear is knit with 2mm (US 0) needles. 9 sts and 13 rounds = 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm / 1 inch x 1 inch, in stocking stitch, worked in the round, blocked. The clothes are knit with 2mm (US 0) and 2,75 mm (US 2) needles. SIZE One size. With the yarn and needle size used for the sample shown, Tsutsu measures about 14 cm (5,6 inches) from the top of the head to the sole of the little feet. If you use a thicker yarn, you will get a bigger bear. In that case, don’t forget to adapt the size of the eyes if you use safety eyes. NOTIONS Lockable stitch markers, such as bulb pins Tapestry needle and embroidery needle Stuffing Safety eyes (as shown here, Tsutsu has 4,5mm diameter brown eyes) Embroidery thread : black or dark brown for the tip of the nose and the mouth Pieces of waste yarn to mark eyes and ears placement For optional knitted eyes, 1 m / 1 yd of black yarn in same weight as the one used for the bear (option to consider if the color used to knit Tsutsu is not too dark).
