Leonor Fini nació en Argentina pero fue criada en Italia (Trieste). Posteriormente vivió en Milán y París. Allí entró en contacto con artistas e intelectuales de la talla de Paul Éluard, Jean Cocteau, Georges Bataille, Cartier-Bresson, Max Ernst, Picasso o Dalí. Mujer y pintora de potente personalidad, en sus obras se pueden encontrar referencias de lo más diversas (entre ellas simbolistas y surrealistas). Realizó numerosos retratos a personalidades del momento y también importantes diseños de vestuarios y decorados para el teatro.
