Chalk this one up as a major scientific breakthrough: A team of researchers just discovered that unicorns are, in fact, real. ...Or were, in fact, real, as a some recently unearthed fossils—dating back nearly 30,000 years ago—have proven. And, to be accurate, the creatures were "unicorns" only in the loosest "thing with a giant horn in the middle of its head" sense of the word. Yes, the term "unicorn" typically conjures up images of "a spiral-horned, pearl-white winged horse that may or may not have been Hercules' primary mode of transportation," but the creature discovered was a bit of a departure from that commonly-cited likeness. This "Siberian unicorn" (scientific name: Elasmotherium sibiricum; pictured above) weighed 9,000 pounds, stood 6 feet tall, measured 15 feet long, and more closely resembled the modern-day rhinoceros than any other mammal. After discovering a Siberian unicorn skull fossil in the Pavlodar region of Kazakstan, three Tomsk State University scientists published their findings in the American Journal of Applied Sciences. The creature was thought to have gone extinct approximately 350,000 years ago. However, thanks to the discovery of the Elasmotherium sibiricum skull and the magic of radiocarbon dating, the researchers were able to determine that the

Holy Week is a somber and sometimes difficult time of reflection on the Passion and death of Our Lord. As we start the week we see the people celebrating His arrival in the city, but then we hear that some of those same people are beginning to turn on Jesus; He is betrayed by one of his apostles and ends up being tortured and killed in a humiliating, public manner. It’s an astonishing turn of events. The people were cheering His name only days before—how could this have happened? As I hear the Passion being read on Palm Sunday and

Meet Hilda, the creation of illustrator Duane Bryers and pin-up art’s best kept secret. Voluptuous in all the right places, a little clumsy but not at all shy about her figure, Hilda was one of the only atypical plus-sized pin-up queens to grace the pages of American calendars from the 1950s up unti
