My Final Collection is called African renaissance and my inspiration came from the works of the Afro-American artist, of Nigerian origin, Kehinde Wiley. In his works the artist uses the character of the Afro-American Harlem Street male and presents him in historical art positions from the renaissance art, through which you can see also his Nigerian roots influences. In my collection I decided to take those 3 inspiration sources and to make an impossible, yet Magical, fusion between 3 masculine worlds: 1. The Renaissance man (especially as in Period portraits) 2. The Eccentric male hip-hop artists of today. (like Asap rocky and Kanye West) 3. The Yoruba men in the Egunon Voodoo ritual in Nigeria. Each of these men is represented in his unique way, with specific dress codes, symbols of manhood and social status. In my collection, I wanted to combine them into a new image of masculinity.
