One of my students' favorites is a Tim Burton art lesson I call "Spooky Selfies". It yields excellent results and works for almost all ages.
Take a look at self portraits made by kids to get an idea of what they think of themselves, and their personality traits.
Do you Didgeridoo? Making Your Own Didgeridoo I think this post needs a little background about myself and my family before I proceed... Our family is from Washington State (in the US), but we are currently living in Sydney, AU. My husband's job brought us here for three years. While here, I have been fortunate
Hi y’all. Let me just say that poetry is quite possibly one of my favorite things to teach. I use it in all content areas. Walk into my room, and you’ll probably find a poem about the rock cycle hanging next to a poem about skip counting. II use a few different forms of poetry ... Read More about Where I’m From Poetry

This month, the Art Ed Blogger’s Network is talking about how to enrich art class for students who finish early. I think this is an ongoing concern for most art teachers. Kids work at all different paces. Some students will finish their artwork lickety-split with half the class period left. Others will work on the same technique or project and spend multiple periods working on the same piece. So you will often have students at all different paces and at … Read more... →

Do you use rubrics for self-assessment with your students? I developed this rubric based on others I had seen online. I wanted to get my students thinking more about their artwork and writing a few sentences in reflection. We haven’t done much writing in art class before, so I didn’t want to overwhelm them. What do you think? Do you have any suggestions for my rubric? (Does everything sound right, but also easy enough for little kids to understand?) … Read more... →

There is a theory that human beings associate emotions with shapes, and with circles, they feel happiness. It is with that specific idea that I designed these polka dot rainbow-making suncatchers. I hope these sweet little circles with their pops of color add a little happiness, a little sparkle to whatever space you add them to. You can add these suncatchers to your East-facing window to catch rainbows as you start your day with your morning cup of coffee or tea, a West-facing window to catch them with the setting sun, or a South-facing window to have lovely rainbows dance across your floor all day long. Add one to your window at home, at work, a classroom, in your studio, a bedroom or to your car! DETAILS Removable & Reusable Suncatchers 12 Dots per sheet Each Sprinkle is ~3 cm Simply affix to a clean window that gets direct sunlight, and watch the rainbows fill your home. If it is cold out (below 60° F) please spritz your suncatcher with water before moving it to ensure the screen-printed design does not flake. For extra tips to ensure a smooth application of your suncatcher, please read my tips here. Designed in Seattle Made in California
I have been on summer vacation for a week now, and I am already doing school projects! I am not changing much in my classroom except for a few things here and there. I decided to try my hand at making some decorations instead of buying premade items. Since my theme is Peace & Love, I decided to purchase some clip art from Scrappin Doodles. I fell in love with the Groovy Kids Clip Art collection!! Please check out my Groovy Jobs. My next few projects include: Back-to-School Activity packet, behavior clip chart, AR tracker, desk name plates and center signs. Please check back often to grab some freebies and see how I am keeping myself busy!! Enjoy your summer!! I am working on a Back-to-School Activity packet. Check out the preview below!!! I use this form to keep track of students who are not turning in their work. I also love this form because it forces students to think about why they don't have an assignment rather than just not turning anything in.

It's my last week!!! Wahoo!!! Sorry this post is late. (Thanks to Ana at Mrs. Bentin's Blackboard for the text message and reminder that I hadn't posted this week's linky yet. I guess that even though there's one week left, my brain has already left the building. :) So please link up your plans for the week. I'm guessing most of you have "home" plans because you are already on break and that is good too! Being the last week of school, there are a lot of end-of-the-year loose ends to tie up. We will have our awards assembly, AR goal ice cream party, a talent show and field day. Thankfully, there is something going on almost every day to help keep us busy. In the classroom, we will be finishing up our read aloud of this wonderful book. Love this book and the beautiful story of August. I also love how the story end on the last day of school, about the same exact day we will read this part and end our story this year. We've done quite a few readers theater scripts this year to work on fluency. This week, I'm going to have the students work in groups and write their own script. It should be interesting to see what they come up with. Today, I found this fun pin on Pinterest. I love this project (anything that incorporates writing and art is awesome!) and will find somewhere to work this into our schedule. Students write about their year then decorate their hand print and the border. I think it would make a great memory of our year. I'm working on making Goodbye Bags for the kids. I went to Walmart and the dollar store this morning and loaded up on lots of fun things. When I get it all together, I will post about it. I was thinking of continuing the A Peek at My Week linky party throughout the summer, linking up to share our fun summertime plans, but I was wondering what you think. Do you want to see A Peek at My Week continue? Please leave me your thoughts in a comment below. (Also, my Thursday linky party, Positive Thinking Thursday, will continue throughout the summer. Thanks to all of you who encouraged me to do so!) An InLinkz Link-up
