Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, Mill Run PA.
Fallingwater, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built between 1934 and 1937, is a quintessential masterpiece of organic architecture. Located in rural southwestern Pennsylvania, this house was commissioned by the Kaufmann family as a weekend retreat. Wright's design seamlessly integrates the building with its natural surroundings, most notably by incorporating a waterfall as part of the structure. The house's cantilevered terraces mimic the rock formations found in the surrounding landscape, while the use of natural materials like stone and wood further blurs the boundaries between the built and natural environments. Fallingwater is celebrated for its innovative design that emphasizes harmony between human habitation and nature. This iconic residence not only exemplifies Wright's philosophy of organic architecture but also represents a significant departure from traditional architectural practices of the time, influencing future generations of architects worldwide. The original conception of the Taliesin 2 Floor Lamp was in 1933, when Frank Lloyd Wright converted the existing gymnasium of his Hillside Home School, located in Spring Green, Wisconsin, into a theater. He designed lighting pendants composed of rectangular light boxes and plywood shields to be suspended from the tall ceiling. These fixtures proved to be a lighting innovation, providing comfortable indirect light without the use of glass or shades. In 1952, when the theater was rebuilt following a fire, Wright modified the design of the original fixtures for use in the dining room, attaching them to the oak beam overhead. He found their soft indirect light so pleasing that he had a standing floor lamp of the same design fabricated for use in Taliesin, his Wisconsin home. The Taliesin 2 Floor Lamp arrives fully assembled. Simply remove the lamp from the packaging and plug it in. The lamp has (10) 15 Watt incandescent bulbs pre-installed as well as an on/off foot switch for easy power management. Weight: 28 lbs. Height: 80”. Base: 16" X 16”.
