If you are a teacher and you have not seen a set of these drawers ... well - I have no words. All I can say, is you are missing out! These drawers are perfect for many classroom activities. We think they make perfect CORE drawers. Strip your program back to the guts and think about the very BASICS of your Kindergarten instruction. The CORE of it! 'Core Drawers' sit right next to YOU, the teacher, when you implement your lessons and activities from the main teaching area. The Core Drawers have all the essential items you need for effective instructions, directions and lessons with your students. Every Kindergarten teacher knows, that when you have the children settled, seated and listening, you DO NOT want to get up from your seat to go get a ten frame or an elastic band! Have a dedicated drawer for each important part of your CORE and you will be set. We strongly advise that you clean and re-organise your drawers at the end of each day (or at least each week!) You can place in each drawer, exactly what we have suggested, or add your own items to suit your class program. Drawer # 1 has 'Pens and Bits'! We suggest - 2 blue pens, 1 red pen, 1 pencil, 1 marker, 1 whiteboard marker, 5 different coloured highlighters, sticky notes, clips, jumbo clips, elastic bands, a glue stick, scissors, a pointer (or ruler), a bell (for attention) and a few small envelopes (to send messages and notes to other teachers). Draw #4 is a mathematics drawer. Include numeral cards, subitizing cards, ten frames (2 styles), hundreds chart, 120 chart, number lines and a small counter of counters/chip and 4 standard dice. These are all included in our printable file. Remember, the Core Drawer is only for some basic equipment. It can help you when you need an essential item to explain something to your students or it can also help you create a whole lesson on a whim (we all need to wing-it at some point!). The equipment in the Core Drawers could get you through a whole day if you needed! But don't be tempted to try to put your whole program in here - just the essentials. The 5th drawer includes resources that will help you to motivate and grab your students attention. We have included our newly revised "Sit Up Straight and Listen' classroom management resource, but this drawer can be filled with anything else you have to motivate your students. In the Core Drawers packet, you will notice a photo of the bottom drawer contains some Visual Instruction Cards. I have always used these cards, along with Visual Timetable Cards. I made mine using the Boardmaker program. I have included in my photo some of Ashley Hughes' cards. I found them a few weeks ago and LOVE them much more than my boring Boardmaker cards. They are perfect for the bottom drawer of the Core Drawers and can be found at TpT HERE I will post again about the other drawers in the Core Drawers and also plan to do some posts that have ideas and lessons that you can carry out with the equipment included. So stay tuned! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Go get your drawers ready!

The Tree Frog House is designed to attract the long-legged ones by offering a safe, moist and comfy resting spot. Handsome frog abode contains an interior water reservoir providing moisture tree frogs need to survive. With custom adaptations like toe pads and long legs, most tree frogs... live in trees! Approximately 30 species of tree frogs reside in the US and Southern Canada, none are poisonous (you'll find these guys in Central and South America). Simply hang the house 4-6 ft. high on porch column, tree or building. Placing the house near an outdoor light source works best. Although nocturnal, they don't require sunlight but tree frogs are drawn to the light with evening activity. Tree frogs will typically emerge from the house right before dark and rest in the house during the daytime. You may also see several frogs using the house at the same time. Green and Gray Tree Frogs are the most common species in the Eastern US. Shelter for tree frogs is made of recycled plastic (poly-lumber), it will never fade or crack. Features a removable roof for easy cleaning after summer season, complete with easy instructions. What if Jeremiah was really a Tree Frog? He'd deserve the best house out there! Check out the video to see the Tree Frog House in use. Measures 20" tall x 3.5" wide x 3.75" deepItem Weight 2.75 lb.Material: Recycled Plastic, Stainless ScrewsUSA Made

I am busy getting ready to leave for a speaking/teaching engagement tomorrow for the Santa Barbara Guild. Each time I leave for an engagement I'm obsessive about making sure everything is picked up, cleaned, laundry done, sewing room spit-spot, etc. It's a great way to help make sure I haven't forgotten anything. Since everything is picked up I thought it would be a great time to share my haven. My first post, a couple years ago now, shared my space, so I thought it was a good time to do it again. I have a very small room that is packed to the hilt with everything...there isn't a half inch to spare. Kent ran a standard kitchen countertop along the wall and this is my desk and sewing space. Before things got so crazy this used to have 2-3 sewing machines on it...now my one machine is in the corner and my desk area takes up about 3/4 of the length. I have great pull-out work areas that I can lock into place and it holds even more paperwork when needed. Many of you have heard about my very special bulletin board...this has been the tacking up spot for almost 15 years of special quotations, mementos, ribbons, etc. A constant source of inspiration...my design wall takes up the space right next to my machine. My stash! My stash is about half linens and half fabric...I have my beautiful table linens all folded and patiently waiting to be turned into beautiful quilts. The little stuff is lovingly stored in baskets...it's always an adventure going thru the baskets and I'm constantly discovering treasures that I've forgotten about. Most of the fabric stash is for wholecloth pieces or linen backs. Kent turned the closet into a desk space too (good thing he's a cabinetmaker!). This is where all my folders are organized for my upcoming guild engagements and the CD's are stored for copying, stuffing and getting ready for upcoming classes. Oh...my amazing rainbow wall of threads...I get a lot of questions from students on how I store my thread. I couldn't bear to tuck them away in drawers or boxes. Even on the gloomiest of days it's a bright spot in the room and in my life. It doesn't get direct sunlight and I'll wipe the dust off before using...just like everything else in my house! I have the very busy calendar tucked amongst the threads and this keeps me organized and honest. And then there's my mascot, Kermit the Frog. The kids had him when they were younger and I swiped him. He sits on my design wall lamp and you can find him in various poses depending on how life is at that particular moment. I often talk about my table in the living room where I do almost all of my handwork...I'm in my sewing room until about 7:30 and snug up here afterwards to put the finishing touches on my pieces. Since I get up at 4 am I'm often falling asleep here between 8 and 8:30 pm. Most people know not to call after 8 as they'll get a sleepy Cindy on the phone! *** On another subject, I wanted to let everyone know that I am busy developing a 4-day teaching workshop due to popular demand. This will be different than my 5-day session with Empty Spools at Asilomar. This workshop will provide detailed instruction on threads the first day; the second day will be devoted to design in a wholecloth setting (this can be applied to pieced quilts as well); third and fourth days devoted to instruction on heirloom feathering, backgrounds, etc. I am hoping to provide short lessons on the Tsukineko inks and various other short-shots of instruction throughout the workshop. The mornings will be devoted to lecture and the afternoon/evenings to quilting while the students make a wholecloth sampler. These will be set up in the Sacramento area and I am hoping to have 2-3 of these per year. I am working with Superior Threads to have this workshop at their School of Threadology in St. George, Utah too. I will also be adding two more "My Time Retreats" in the Sacramento area as the ones in McCloud are nearly full for next year already. I hope you've enjoyed seeing a peek into my space here at home! Watch for a blog which will let you know about my upcoming workshops. I will have a newsletter blast with all the details. If you would like to receive my newsletters just send me an email and I'll add you to the list. ([email protected]) ...Hugs, Cindy :)
As we continue with our ascension process we are experiencing an increasingly powerful ability to create. And because we have learned to be in the flow and are orchestrating in the moment, we are seeing our creations come into being. This is the place, the space—this rarified 5D energy—that makes creation effortless. This whole past week, the creations have been flying in. Every day, there are many, and many are wonderful and surprising. I was thinking back to 1997 and the first time I obviously created something. I was standing in a little neighborhood grocery store on Valentine’s Day looking for some wonderful chocolate and seeing only uninteresting candy bars. I specifically wanted chocolate truffles. Suddenly, the door of the store opened and in walked the UPS delivery person. He handed me a small package, and inside was exactly what I wanted—those chocolate truffles. Now really, what are the odds? That’s when I first learned that we could create, and it’s what led to my quest to find out how our creative ability works. So many of our creations feel magical, and we find ourselves asking, How did that happen??? They don’t follow the rules of 3D whatsoever, which is why they are often so surprising. But we’re casting those rules off! Our new reality is not limited in those ways. Our creations 20 years ago seemed few and far between compared to now. Now we are creating all the time, and we can see it happening. On Tuesday, a windstorm blew down some large branches and I wanted to have them hauled away. I made a note to call the man who mows my yard. But before I did, I went to run an errand, and I encountered him two doors away, cleaning up a fallen fence. I stopped to talk to him about the branches and said, “whenever you have time.” When I got back from my errand an hour later, the branches were all cut and loaded in his trailer. Later, I noticed he’d also blown all the pine needles off my driveway as a bonus. A friend of mine commented that more people should be kind like that, and I thought, that’s coming in the New Earth. We will do more things out of kindness, out of the love that is blooming within. We are all powerful creators, and we can work right now to create everything we need for our new world. Our two most important powers are love and creation. We hold the frequency of love as much as we can, making it an essential part of who we are, and we create by visioning what we want to see in our personal world as well as the greater world around us. I saw an Oregon spotted frog in the road, and transported it to the adjacent park. Early this morning I was strongly guided to go on a bike ride before the rain started, so off I went. By the park, in the road, I saw an Oregon spotted frog. These are endangered, and I only see one or two a year. I stopped and carefully transported it up into the park, not far from the lake, which was the direction it was headed. It wouldn’t have lasted long in the road, so I’m glad the powers that be sent me on that ride. We’re going with these intuitive nudges, as it’s an important part of our guidance system. Let me know in the comments how you’re doing with all this: the strong energies, embodying the new consciousness, and creating. You are probably noticing our priorities are definitely shifting as the light from beyond is taken into our being, as we move into our magnificence. As we align with the truth of who we are, everything else falls away.

Creativity in the classroom. What does that mean to you? Do you feel nervous when you have to 'be creative' or is it something that comes so naturally to you that in a way, you don't really know what it entails because you have never had to think about it? For you in your classroom, does 'creativity' mean art, craft and drama, or is it more than that - a way of thinking. I have had the discussion of 'creativity in the classroom' so many times this year, and for some reason it is a topic that just keeps coming up. When I thought about doing a blog post on nurturing creativity, I was first excited, then a bit worried, a few days of confusion, and then little moments of anxiety began to creep in. Until I realised that there is just too much to cover in one post. So I intend to do a series of posts on 'creativity in the classroom'. It will nicely encompass a few little projects I am working on and give me the opportunity to discuss something that I love. The irony is that as teachers, we have been regularly told, in recent years, that our goal should be to have 'creative' students who are prepared to work in jobs that may not have yet been invented, or in jobs they will need to invent themselves. How that is achieved exactly, may be interpreted in many - shall I say - creative ways. It sounds like such a huge feat. It sounds daunting. There is no correct answer. There is no syllabus outlining the steps we need to take. But. I feel excited about it. Not worried. Take a look around the teacher-blogging community. WE are all doing jobs that were not invented when we were at school. We are using equipment and techniques that are new. Many of us are 'inventing' new career paths as we go along. Somehow or other, we managed to gain the skills needed to be creative in the workforce, and I have confidence that our current students will be the same. What is creativity to you? For me, it is deeply complex. If I had to simplify it, it would be the process of 'doing' or 'making' and it would involve inventiveness or the emergence of an idea. In saying that, it is also for me, something that is intrinsically relaxed. I don't believe 'creativity' and 'stress' go together. Having strict rules and rigid opinions on creativity is going to get you absolutely nowhere. I think the beauty of nurturing creativity in your classroom is that, if you foster consistent messages and activities with your students, 'creativity' will naturally happen. As someone deeply invested in the early years of education I also see 'creativity' as involving the learning of practical skills. For the most part, it is when the colourful paper and crayons emerge out of the cupboard or when we 'dramatise' a story with role play. This is because in the early years, creativity largely has to be 'seen' by my students, they are moving and transitioning from a time of real and concrete to the beginnings of abstract thought. Their world experience is vastly different from ours, and they learn most effectively with hands-on activities and play. I have resisted for many years, listening to people that suggest that doing certain activities will 'ruin students' creativity'. I have so much more faith in the children I teach. Children have such brilliant little minds, and in my personal experience, they can certainly understand the difference between a purely 'creative' experience that is open ended or 'free choice' and a more structured activity that aims to build and develop skills. There is room for both in the early-years classroom, and I think they are both essential. The first suggestion I have for nurturing creativity in your early-years classroom, is to foster a creative attitude in your students. Here are just a few ideas. 1. Be encouraging Be encouraging in your comments to students when they demonstrate creativity or a differing opinion 2. Be specific Be specific with comments about creativity - tell students exactly what part of their work you think is creative. This will help them begin to understand that creativity is something unique and different in each child. 3. Allow Opportunities Allow students opportunities to discuss their feelings and opinions openly. Be careful with your responses and how you facilitate your discussions, so students know that different ideas are valuable. 4. Use Visuals Use mind maps and other visuals when you 'brainstorm' - showing students that lots of ideas exist and are appreciated 5. Model Acceptance Model the acceptance of two differing opinions. We want students to believe that alternative opinions make for interesting discussions and that they can coexist in the same well-functioning classroom. 6. Allow Freedom to Make Choices Take a look at your classroom practise. Do you have times where your students are allowed to make choices and take a project in a direction of their own liking. The whole week cannot be like this, but even one experience each week, is enough to help students grow in creative confidence and attitude. Click on the image below to download a FREE poster to display in your classroom. Positive messages about difference will help foster a 'creative' attitude! I would love to know your ideas for fostering a creative attitude in the classroom. Please leave some comments below and let me know how you encourage it in the classroom. There is more 'classroom creativity' coming soon. Thanks so much for stopping by!

'Stamina Writing' has been developed to ignite and motivate students to write longer and with more stamina. If you need a simple, systematic and engaging way to get your students eager to write again, this is it! They love the stopwatch timer and their teacher telling them daily that they are getting stronger and wiser! I suggest you implement it as a 'warm up' style skills mini lesson of between 5 and 15 minutes. It is critical that you are positive and accepting of all attempts by your students in this activity - there are no correct answers and there is NO focus on neatness or correct spelling. It is about building capacity. The idea is that you implement this as a whole class activity, time them with a timer and encourage them to build minutes each day. I have provided 5 posters to help you introduce the concept to your class: 1. Strong hands (they won't fall off). 2. Strong minds (do not stop, do not give up) 3. Fast ideas (all ideas count) 4. Have a go spelling (give it a try) 5. Add more power (detail, adjectives, adverbs) The goal is for students to build the time that they can keep their pencil moving and the ideas flowing. These skills can then be transferred over to their regular writing lessons and program. This packet also provides an 'activity book' for each daily mini-lesson. There is a cover and 26 pages. Each page has a 3 tasks for students to complete while not stopping their pencil 1. 'pattern' focus - get that pencil moving and build hand strength 2. letter practice - a lowercase and uppercase letter focus to start to warm up and get ready for words 3. writing idea prompt - a topic to start listing words and ideas - e.g. "I can..." students then spend the rest of their allocated time recording any idea that comes to their mind without worrying about neatness or spelling Students record the time that it took them to complete their page as a motivating way to build capacity. I have provided several extra pages that can be used to provide more space and also as follow-up activities to add 'power' to your students' ideas. You will find that as the program progresses, students will add power to their original ideas to begin with. This program will ignite your learners' interest in writing, boost their confidence and help them learn to trust their own ideas for writing. Click on any of these images to find this new packet in my TpT store (and it's on sale at the moment too)!
