Please note that each basket is made from an antique quilt, and that there will be wear and tear consistent with a quilt that has been well-loved. Each basket will be unique as it will be made from a different part of the quilt. - DETAILS - Measurements: Regular is approximately 9" x 9" x 9". Large is approximately 10" x 10" x 12". Made of vintage quilts with added lining and foam stabilizer.
Sometimes when I get an obsession is comes out of left field and hits hard. This is the case with my current love affair with antique quilts. I've always liked them, and have a couple of nice examples, but all of a sudden a few days ago I realized I really really want to collect them, in a big way. First, they're very useful- you never know when you'll need an extra blanket. Secondly, they're gorgeous and each one is unique. Finally, how can you deny the amazing craftsmanship and hours upon hours of labor that each one took to make. They're one of the most overlooked areas of folk art. Let's look at some pretty ones now! I'm currently crushing on this one on ebay A cozy little entryway with antique blue and white quilts here I absolutely love this bright stack of beautiful quilts casually leaning on a cheerful floral armchair An outstanding example with all the bells and whistles! Antique stoneware bowls, brightly painted cupboards, and antique quilts- A country dream come true! A spectacular example in greens, and oranges. Look at all that quilting! This little vignette is pretty as can be, but be cautious of displaying your antique textiles near windows. You'd be surprised how fast a little sun can steal away their color forever. A stunning staircase displays an impressive collection of quilts, blue apothecary bottles, and decoys. Utterly charming! This welcoming room, rendered in multiple shades of faded pastel is made all the more lovely with the hanging quilt display on the wall! I would love to display antique quilts on my upstairs bannister except that 1. we still don't have an upstairs bannister, and 2. my cats would consider is a personal invitation to rip them to shreds.

This has been the most fun project so far! Sometimes I get a little carried away with adding bling. Someone needs to restrain me. Seriously. But when I have an embroidery area that is fourteen feet long, it’s easy to let my imagination run wild! I didn’t have to hoop, and rehoop, and rehoop…. just to get an embroidery that fits a 60 inch table runner. I could do it all in one pass! No stabilizers! The back of my table runner looks as nice as the front does. Back to the bling….. I stitched this table runner on a black fabric that I cross-hatched with a 3/8 inch design in the back ground. I love the way it looks when a small cross-hatching is washed and thrown in the dryer. After a little checking, I discovered that Mylar for embroidery can go through the washer and dryer without any harm or change to it. Perfect! I enlarged my design from Embroidery Library, brought it into Grand Format Embroidery on my Innova quilt machine, and pressed GO! Pinning a layer of Mylar under each flowered area was simple. All you have to do is tear away the excess, and then move to the next area. When the runner was complete, I added my beads. Like I said, someone needs to restrain me because I am having way too much fun!

Based on an antique quilt from the Joanna Rose collection, this quilt is special. It comes by its name honestly. Please don't try to make this quilt as your first quilt. But if you are an experienced quilter, this is an heirloom quilt for generations to come. Mrs. Rose's collection was featured in a book called "Red and White Quilts, Infinite Variety." The minute I saw it I wanted to figure out how to make it and started down that rabbit hole. Yeah, I know. Figuring out how to make a quilt is weird, but just be grateful because it means I already did all the math for you! The photo looks like it is black and white, but it is red and white. I still need to bind it and then I will post a better picture. This beauty does NOT need to be red and white. Pick your two favorite colors and go with them, as long as they have a nice contrast, anyway. And please send me a picture of your masterpiece when you are done!

I was thrilled when Barbara brought this quilt in to be finished! I love anything patriotic, and this was a true original! It's based on a Lone Star quilt, with the different areas being changed to suit the design of the eagle in the center section. Barbara took it a step further though, and added
This handsome quilt was found in Maine and comprises Log Cabin blocks arranged in a Courthouse Steps design. The dark and light strips grouped on opposite sides of the center, resembling the steps of the town courthouse building. This quilt's front and back are made of cotton, wool, and silk patches in wonderful turn-of-the-century patterns. Each strip is approximately 1⁄2”-3⁄4” wide, depending on the area. The backing is also a patchwork of many beautiful patterns, some featured on the front as well. There appears to have been an additional backing, perhaps to house batting, but it has been removed. Remnants of that fabric were detected around the border. This quilt is summer weight with no batting; it is constructed with just the front and the back quilted together. Deirdre’s Bio: This comes from the archives of Deirdre Coughlin, founder of Phoebe’s Closet. She specializes in antique textiles and sold them to many New York City Designers including Ralph Lauren (that’s how I know her,) Charlotte Moss, Martha Stewart, and Schumacher, among many others.

It's time to actually use and enjoy the things you inherit.
This gorgeous antique quilt is pieced in a pretty Irish Chain pattern. The piece was made lovingly by hand and dates to the late 1800s. The maker chose cotton fabrics in turkey red, rich copper prints, purple calicos, tans, and delicate black and white patterns to create colorful, intersecting chains across the quilt. A wide triple border of turkey red and tan with corner blocks frames the masterpiece. This quilt is expertly and very densely quilted with tiny, even stitches in small grid patterns. The background is a plain white while the backing is a natural muslin. The quilt is finished with a separate, hand applied turkey red binding. This quilt is in very good condition and measures 86" by 66". The only flaws I found were one fabric selection that shows deterioration along with a small bleach spot and minor tear in the red border. These flaws are highlighted in the photos. It is a midweight quilt with even, cotton batting. It has been freshly laundered and is ready for display. Pattern: Irish Chain Size: 86" x 66" Materials: All cotton, even batting Backing: Original natural muslin Binding: Hand applied; separate turkey red binding Quilting: Hand pieced; hand quilted Approximate dating: Late 1800s Condition: Very good condition. One fabric used shows signs of deterioration/splitting. Small bleached spot and tear in red border fabric All of my quilts are vintage or antique and are typically 50-150 years old. I do my best to describe major flaws and damage, and my photographs are part of the description. I check them very carefully, but I may miss a minor spot or imperfection. Please ask if you have any questions about condition but most antique quilts will show some wear: they are quite old!
