Both of the quilts in this post are Biggies, both finishing at 90" x 85" Firstly is my Anna Maria Horner Herringbone quilt. I used this Maureen Cracknell tutorial it was super easy to change the size of the panels. It all started with a few strings thrown up on the wall Once I got going Issabella got interested and her usual brand of quality control was in full force. Those panels really did seem to go on for ever! I am really pleased with how this turned out, and I'm sure Him in doors is happy he finally has a quilt that covers his feet. The colours in Anna Maria Horner's fabrics really do pop in sunlight :) This one has been on my bed since I finished the binding, claimed by Him in doors as his own. The other big finish was a custom request through my Etsy shop, the client loved This quilt but the size just wasn't right for her. So after some back and forth between us we settled upon "similar but different" So using Pure Elements in Ocean Waves, Patina Green, Verve Violet, and Parisian Blue as a starting point I pulled coordinating Anna Maria Horner fabrics and started cutting. In all fairness there was no way my design wall was going to manage a 90x86 inch quilt! Sections are the way forward when pushed for space. The fabrics when all pooled together make me think of a calming spa, very restful and just what is needed in a quilt. The quilt is now residing happily at it's new home :) It was so nice to actually cut into fabrics I have been saving for goodness knows what. I still have enough AMH fabrics to make another 2 king size quilts, and I'm not afraid to use them!

Summer Tourist quilt top, just after I finished it almost exactly a year ago My new book, Sew Organized for the Busy Girl, is filled with projects that are fairly quick to sew, but I also included a chapter of projects that can be made over a longer period of time. The first project in that section is my Summer Tourist Quilt. I have to tell you... I loved making this quilt. You all know how much I enjoy seeing things in color order, and these blocks just make my heart sing. There are so many memories in here as I look at all the different prints and remember when I bought them and what I've sewn with them. It's such a simple quilt design, but sometimes I think the simplest things are my favorites. I've been wanting to make another (possibly larger) version of this quilt for a while, and last month I finally started working on it. This time I'm making the Summer Tourist Quilt: Designer Edition. Instead of focusing on color, each block will be made from fabrics created by a different designer. The first I made was the one above featuring prints by Anna Maria Horner, and I absolutely adore it. These blocks are so much fun to make! Choosing the prints, watching the rainbow appear as I line up the squares -- every time I sew one of these, I get the same rush of happiness. I'll be posting my designer blocks on Instagram as I finish each one, so stay tuned...

Anna Maria has a vibrant, fresh, bohemian aesthetic. This fall Market in Houston she revealed her new collection, Hindsight, that is a celebratory mash-up of her preceding collections over the past decade and a half. The Guest of Honor flower has an added center and has been combined with blooms and branches from Summer Totem. Sinister Swarm moths have been merged with flora from Small Gathering. Volumes are filled with True Colors, and Echinacea has been recolored. Natural Cadence combines Log Cabin blocks with appliqué butterflies created using Anna Maria's Moonbeam template collection (coming in 2020). Wheelhouse will be part of a 5 month program called Wheelhouse Medallion Club coming to local quilt shops. Anna Maria Horner also has a special Aurifil thread box to accompany the collection. Anna Maria created a memory quilt for herself featuring hearts of fabric from previous collections for shop owners to sign. Anna Maria's Conservatory collections are a conglomeration of various surface designers. The latest collections center around the theme: wild. Bookhou designer After the Rain, Monika Forsberg created Endless Summer, and Anna Maria's one contribution is titled One Mile Radiant. I attended Anna Maria's Schoolhouse session and got a closer look at each quilt. The Wild quilt features Conservatory Chapter 3 fabrics and can be created using traditional, Hawaiian needle-turn, or raw edge machine appliqué. The One Mile Radiant quilt is created from Anna Maria's collection for Conservatory Chapter 3. The After the Rain quilt features Bookhou's After the Rain fabrics for Anna Maria Horner's Conservatory Chapter 3. Monika Forsberg's collection is featured in Endless Summer.

I reckon Anna Maria Horner (AMH) has a real knack for making gorgeous and colourful fabrics. Many of them remind me of modern bohemian styles that (as I've discovered by participating in Ms Midge's AMH charm swap) together combine to make what i reckon turns into a delicious, funky, almost folk-style quilt. Boho Road Trip: A finished quilt top Ms Midge's AMH Charm Swap: It has been so much fun participating in the AMH Charm Swap organised by Ms Midge . It was such a great way to work with a designers collection of fabrics. Mostly though, i found it totally fun working out what to make with the charms that i thought would suit the collection and also seeing what other people design and come up with. 56 people participated in the charm swap and we all contributed 2 sets of charms from a fabric line each. That meant we all received 112 unique charms. While my quilt design was fairly simple, there have been some awesome and unique quilts made, very different to mine, despite being based on the same collection of fabrics (Visit Ms Midge's Charm Along to check some of them out). Boho Road Trip: After seeing the AMH fabrics, i wanted to make a something to showcase the fabrics and to keep in style with the bohemian vibes. Our family is fortunate enough to have a VW CamperVan (Transporter) that we use regularly to get away to the coast and take our travelling holidays in so I wanted a quilt to snuggle under on our road trips around the country. Something we could wrap ourselves in while watching sunrises and sunsets and while we watched for humpback whales as they migrate along Australia's east and west coasts. I wanted a quilt that would keep us warm while waiting for good surf on nippy coastal mornings. I'd seen some lovely quilts made from charm squares, but never made one myself. I decided to make a quilt based on a disappearing 9 patch and thought the AMH fabric collection would suit these blocks well. The resulting blocks were really simple to make but I like the way that the charms aren't cut up too small and so some of the fabrics with larger designs can still be appreciated. At nearly 2x2m, this quilt was a little on the big side for me to quilt on my Bernina, so I've asked Jeanette at Gone Aussie Quilting to quilt an edge to edge design on it for me. I can't wait to get it back! Would i recommend participating in a charm swap? I sure would! And i can't wait to do another one. I'm so thankful to Melissa for all her hard work organising this swap. Thanks Midge...you're the best! Jen Linking up with: - Ms Midge for the Anna Maria Horner Charm-Along and - Lorna for Lets Bee Social and - Amanda Jean for Finish it Up Friday

Made by Adrianne at on the Windy Side Made by Sarah Major Made by Cindy at Hyacinth Quilt Designs Made by Megan at Jaffa Quilts Even though I still have my scrappy sampler quilt to complete, my SWAK envelope quilt to finish and my Christmas place mats to bind, I am already thinking of a new project. I know I am not the only quilter to do this. Over the past couple of years I have gradually been adding to my Anna Maria Horner fabric stash, through online purchases, swaps and gifts (thanks Janine). Recently I have begun thinking I need to make a quilt from these fabrics. They deserve to be seen and enjoyed, not left in a container under my cutting table. I know my husband isn't to impressed with the idea - I think the combination of all these clashy bohemian colours and patterns is to much for him, but he realises that a happy wife means a happy life. I have a pinterest board for AMH inspiration, but seem to keep coming back to this pattern. It is pretty simple but looks so effective and I think it will show off some of the larger prints best. My next dilemma is what colour to use as the chain, I think I want something really rich and vibrant - maybe a deep red, gold or jade. Luckily there is no hurry for this to be completed and I can keep looking for the perfect pattern and fabrics, and maybe even add a little more to the stash. Do you have a special fabric stash that you are saving for that extra special project?
