Want to visit the real Bali? If so Amed Bali is your next holiday in Bali. Amed is peaceful, has great diving and beatiful villas and great food.
Before I visited Amed, I’d seen the name mentioned a bunch of times – mainly in guidebooks. But for some reason, I had it in my mind that Amed was yet another tourist trap. Because I’ve been to Bali so many times, I was looking for a new place to explore during a visit to Bali in 2017. So very randomly, I decided to give Amed a chance. I was floored. Honestly, it's nearly impossible not to be taken with Amed’s beauty. With the enormous Mount Agung (Bali’s largest active volcano) serving as the backdrop, the town is lined with coral-filled bays, azure waters and colorful fishing boats. And that’s just the coast. Look inland and you’ll spot picturesque rice paddies and towering green mountains that look like they were shipped straight from Maui. I wrote this guide of things to do in Amed after my first visit. After my recent 10-day trip to Amed, I figured I'd give it a little update for anyone who's pondering a trip to this little slice of paradise!

1. Did you miss walking around Legian Street in the night? Nightlife in Legian is a rich mix of nightclubs and dining spots that stay open until late along Jalan Legian, the street that links Kuta and Seminyak. There’s also a variety of notable and unique bars found on the branching alleys such as Poppies Lane 1 and 2. Legian’s Ground Zero memorial site serves as a central landmark. After you’ve spent the day relaxing on the beach, you’re never short of other fun options in Legian. The area is home to some of Bali’s favourite bars and clubs and always promises a night to remember – or forget… depending on exactly how long your night lasts From @kevinputra87 2. Beautiful clearwater river at Tukad Pekerisan Campuan Tampak Siring If you’re looking for peace and quiet, then Ubud is the place to be. Steeped in culture and enhanced by magnificent vistas, Ubud offers a respite from the humdrum of your busy life. In the past, Ubud was just a small village, but now it has grown into a thriving yet laid back cosmopolitan community. Ubud pampers visitors in body and soul. Fine dining restaurants and spas here will delight and relax the senses. A walk through the lush paddy fields, watching colourful processions of women gracefully balancing piles of fruit offerings on their way to the temple, are lasting impressions and simply breathtaking. Ubud is a perfect place for you to experience spiritual awakening and enlightenment. Visit Ubud to experience its peace and tranquility From @ikumiotsb 5. Living the island life, at El Kabron Bali From @elkabronbali 6. The glorious Mount Agung view through this lush rice terrace Most people who have visited Bali say that the real Bali can be found where the rice grows. In Bali rice fields can be found almost everywhere, and the Balinese people have depended on this method of agriculture for along ago. The terraced rice fields were carved by hand, with the help of some simple tools, and are being maintained by succeeding generations. Imagine yourself watching the sun rise through the mist over a rice field or taking a hike through their lush greenness. It is a must thing to do in Bali to visit at least one of the rice fields! From @sutarahady 7. The streets of Seminyak Bali that were once bustling with tourists are now empty From @kadekarini 8. A glorious misty morning from Pinggan Village Kintamani, Bali From @hidwii 9. Who has been to Canggu Shortcut too The curb-less road weaving through rice paddies connecting Berawa and Batu Bolong is a painfully narrow path indeed, definitely not meant for heavy traffic, no less traffic flowing two-ways.And when there are cars coming from opposite directions, it’s a game of chicken and you know someone is probably going to end up going over the side of the road into some local farmer’s sawah (rice paddy).Given the frequency of these ridiculous accidents, which happen to make for tragically laughable photos, it was only a matter of time before someone would curate all the most viral images into a collection. From @mitch.dann 10. Amazing view of the aquarium and mesmerizing underwater atmosphere, at The Apurva Kempinski Bali From @philiaalethea 11. Banyu Wana Amertha waterfall is a pure hidden gem that is equally spectacular as the other popular waterfalls, only without the crowds. Another reason why Banyu Wana Amertha waterfall should be on your Bali bucket list is that there is not just one waterfall here, but three! If you happen to visit in the rainy season, there is even a fourth waterfall. You can easily spend a few hours at this one attraction alone, being blown away by the dramatic waterfalls From @_brianpacker_ 12. When sun goes down behind the Mount Agung volcano Amed Beach in Bali is most likely already in your Bali travel itinerary! The island’s eastern shoreline boasts an underwater playground, and Amed Beach is among the favourite between two main sites (the other being Tulamben, 25km to the north). All are fishing villages, hence the traditional jukung outriggers that line the coast From @_febrian 13. Taman Dedari at Bali is a wonderland From @katnisfatimah 14. Maha Gangga Valley such a unique place to visit on the East Coast of Bali Look at this wooden bridge; if you zoom in on the picture - you will see all of the “coconut heads” hanging from the ceiling and it has a face on each one From @livinglistjourney 15. Infinity Buddha pool at The Monkey Bar The Monkey Bar is halfway up a small mountain with breathtaking views, great food and the most amazing infinity pool you can swim in. It has great seating which you can see the the ocean and East coast of Bali from, A magnificent hand carved 4m high Buddha which I was told is one of the largest around. The Monkey Bar is exactly that, a full cocktail bar with about a dozen monkey statues all around and climbing over it, incredible From @tinihitakara 17.
