When I tell people how much daylight there is in an Alaska summer, a common response goes something like this, Yeah, but you make up for it in the winter. But that's not quite true.

I have been over the Alcan nine times. The last time was in 1966. It was not paved. It is now paved. I describe this road as long, mile after mile of trees and mountains and as you can tell it has been 44 years........ and I still remember.
Today on the blog I am excited to share with y'all pictures from Homer Spit in Homer, Alaska. I am so excited to share about Homer with y'all as I really enjoyed my time in this area. This was definitely an area that I would like to come back and spend more time in in the future. Our time in Homer Spit turned out to be absolutely gorgeous with the weather too. After a more cloudy beginning at Bishop's Beach, Homer Spit was gorgeous blue skies and sun. It was crazy because it was less than 10 miles difference between the two areas, but a fun gift for us the day that added to the charm of the area. *smiles* I know some of you may be curious (like I was before this trip) about what exactly Homer Spit is. So basically it is an area of land (about 4 and 1/2 miles) that juts out into the Kachemak Bay that hosts restaurants, shopping, art galleries, food trucks, beach areas, swings (attached under the collection of shops/restaurants/galleries), music, and tour boats in some areas. You can drive out onto Homer Spit (something that several of you have asked me) and there is lots of parking areas along the way for you to park and walk to the different boardwalk areas. If you are unable to walk long distances and need to for physical reasons you can move your car as you explore the different sections. When you are out on Homer Spit it is truly just gorgeous in a completely different way than other areas of Alaska that we had been to before. You have the waters of the bay that are on both sides of the spit, so you almost feel like you are on an island and then the Kenai Mountains are before you in the background (and surrounding you). It was stunning and unique in a really neat way. There are so many different things that you could do in this area that include fishing and boating, or simply walking around Homer Spit. Because of our time frame we spent the day exploring on land, but it would be so fun to be out on the water in this area! We had the perfect weather for exploring, taking pictures, walking around, wandering on the docks, eating yummy food, spending time in several art galleries, and seeing the different and unique shops that are in this area. It was simply lovely. The vibe in this area was definitely a delightful eclectic mixture of incredible energy. I keep trying to think of how to really explain it as it was so neat but words are failing...basically it was a mixture of a wharf area type vibe with artisans and foodies and fishermen... and it was just so cool. Y'all will definitely want to check out Homer Spit when you go visit Homer! Thank you so much for stopping by and reading this post today!
