Each decade develops its own architectural visions for the future. While some of the great forward-looking buildings of the 20th century are under monument protection, others are falling into decay – or have been targeted for demolition. A subjective glimpse at buildings that once aimed to anticipate our future and are for that very reason worth holding on to.

"This riotous expression, however, has been supported as Real-Tech and Wild-Tech, the truthful extravagance of current, complex technology. Jürgen Kunz, who has worked on one of the longest developing High-Tech schemes, the new Medical faculty Building in Aachen, 1969-1984, speaks of the straightforward expression of how things work -the bolier-suit approach- as preferable to the more elevated or rarefied attitude of others. This building, which looks like an oil refinery on top of public housing, expresses its service towers, ducts, red walkways, structure and glass wall with a matter-of-fact garrulity that is, he claims, popular with the patients and doctors. The results are indeed wild and tough, the kind of honest expression of organization he admires in the work of Hannes Meyer, and one alleviated only by the staccato use of a De Stijl colour range." You can reach Aachen, known as the Spa of Kings, in less than four hours by rail, says Patrick Steele. So it's all aboard for a destination famous for a Holy Roman Emperor’s treasure, fine dining and, er, a biscuit.

Aachen, a Baroque city, is located at the North part of the Germany. This spa-city with great history is at the point where Germany borders meet Belgium and the Netherlands and also forming the economic region called the Euregio! In this medieval styled city, you can admire lovely buildings, gorgeous city gates, cute fountains and many more. It is not only a point where countries meet, it is also a city of where Baroque style meets modernity. To reach this worth visiting city, you can fly to Maastricht-Aachen airport which is 40 km away from Aachen or take a bus/train. It is a big city to discover but you can walk in the Old Town since it's not that big and you can use the extensive line of buses to get to know the city better.
