Since The Art of the Hut project was first formed I've been gathering inspiration from various artists and visualizing all the drawings of huts I will be doing this coming summer. Studying paintings and drawings that I admire helps me with things like what works in perspective, composition, and focal points. The great artist Richard Schmidt is one of my main inspirations and I admire all of his work, and at the moment particularly his paintings of buildings. He says so much with each brushstroke and he keeps his focal point clear and the painting unconfusing which is hard when it comes to buildings. Here are some more sketches of buildings which inspire me found on Google images. Here's some sketchbook inspiration from YouTube: Both watercolour paintings, I might take a few watercolours with me and keep a watercolour sketchbook while we are on the trip. Speaking of sketchbooks I have ideas of making a few of my own. I love all kinds of sketchbooks, but it is hard to find the perfect one. I may get close to what I want by making my own, using the Coptic binding technique which will allow me to open it up flat. And I also have some inspiration for covers from Pintrest.

During my Gingerbread Week, we read many different gingerbread books, including this Gingerbread Man story! This pack is intended to be used after reading the book by Karen Schmidt. My retelling packs help work on sequencing/retelling skills while having a whole lot of fun! There are a variety of activities to choose from. What's Included: • Vocabulary Cards: Print on cardstock, laminate, and cut apart words or leave as a poster. Preview vocabulary from the story prior to reading and/or review vocabulary after reading the story. Place in writing center, pocket chart, or back with magnetic tape and use on magnetic board/cookie sheet. I have my students pick a card, write it down and draw a picture to illustrate the word. • Story retelling cards: Print, laminate, and cut out. Give students a picture to hold during the story. When that student’s part is read he/she will hold up the picture. Use to discuss story elements as well as to use descriptive language. Can also be used as a wordless book. • Story Puppets: Glue pieces on craft sticks or make into retelling necklaces to let little ones retell the story. • Story sequencing: Cut and glue picture the sequence of events of the story in order. • Essential Questions: Students can circle or color the correct answer. 
 • Emergent Reader: A simpler version of the story to encourage retelling by young readers.
