Two wonderful old photographs of actress Alice Calhoun. One childhood photo, circa 1906; one glamor shot circa 1925. Alice Calhoun 1900- 1966 Silent film actress of over 40 movies. She listed her childhood home as being in Cleveland. The childhood photo was taken in Salem, Ohio (about 70 miles from Cleveland). The photo was purchased in an elaborate frame*. We believe this may have belonged to a family member. It turned up at an estate sale. *NOTE: We still have the frame, if it is important to you, let us know and we can list it and adjust the shipping to include it. [NOTE: I have listed the frame in another listing, it is reserved for anyone who purchases these photos: https://www.etsy.com/listing/194256819/reserved-original-frame-for-our-alice? ] I removed the photo from the frame to clean the glass, and was delighted to find the second photo hiding inside. I was not sure of the subject of the photo. After some online research, I thought it looked like Alice Calhoun. I found a woman online who was writing a book on Alice, and she confirmed the image for me. She also confirmed the image of the child as being Alice as well (yes, Alice wore glasses). I also confirmed it through some techniques I use for genealogy images. The Witzel photo is a silver gelatine print. It is soft and dreamy, like many of his Hollywood images were. It is quite lovely. The coloration is closest to the first 2 photo shown. The image of Alice as a child was taken by Bramley Studio Main Street, Salem Ohio. It is a darling image, in remarkable condition. SIZES: both images are approx 8" by 10". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Albert Walter Witzel Witzel Studios Location: 811 S. Hill Road, Los Angeles, & 536 S. Broadway Hollywood. Time Period: 1902 - 1927 The Hollywood studio opened in 1923, replacing the old LA studio. This photo would date to 1923-27.
