A Few Questions A few questions seem to be popping up so I would like to see if I can clarify things a bit. - - - - - The pre-cutting that was in Thursdays post is for finishing and unless you are using one of our kits you do not really need to worry about it at this time. If you are using one of our kits please be sure to do this cutting first. If you are using your own fabric you can wait until the end to do this cutting. - - - - - If you would like to put the rows together as you go you will need to cut 30 - 2" x 5-1/2" sashing strips. - - - - - Fabric requirements can be found in this post - - - - - All piecing is done with a 1/4" seam allowance - - - - - I am so sorry but I do not have any kits or fabric left from this line. It was a big kit and a special purchase was made to fill all the pre-orders. - - - - - The fabric line used is Judie's 25th Anniversary from Marcus Brothers. You can find the fabric here. - - - - - I hope this helps clarify a few questions. If you have any other questions please email me.
Several months ago I was out of projects and decided to make some red and white Churn Dash blocks to fill the time. I had a different plan for them at the time, but then one day a few pretty greens arrived at the shop and I changed my mind and decided to make a red and green quilt instead. It came out so cute I thought you might like to make one too. I will be posting friendly reminders each week and a sneak peek at the finished quilt is coming soon. My quilt finishes 47" x 59" and contains 111 - 3" Churn Dash blocks and 110 - 3-1/2" cut green squares cut from a variety of prints. If you make 12 Churn Dash blocks each week for 9 weeks you will have enough to make this quilt and have it ready for Christmas. (you will need to make three extra blocks to have 111) Here are the simple instructions for one block. Cut the following from red: 2 squares, 2" x 2" 1 strip, 1" x 8" Cut the following from light: 1 square, 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" 2 squares, 2" x 2" 1 strip, 1" x 8" Using 2" light and red squares make 4 half square triangles as follows: 1. Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of light squares. 2. Layer a light and red square together. 3. Sew 1/4" from both sides of the drawn line. 4. Cut on line to yield four half square triangles. 5. Trim half square triangles to 1-1/2" Strip piece light and red 1" strips together. Press toward the dark and sub-cut into four 1-1/2" units. Layout block in rows, as pictured. Sew the pieces together in rows. Join the rows together and press. Finished block should measure 3-1/2" including seam allowances.

Good morning, ya'll. One of my favortie motifs to stitch is houses, and I completed quite a few this year . So today I am going to take a stroll down memory lane of saltbox houses that I have shared this year. In January, I shared Winter Manor . Hmmmm ! I always seem to want to stitch blue houses in the winter. In February, I shared Elizabeth Hartline's Saltbox. which is named after a distant grandmother. It was surrounded with lots of roses. Elizabeth Hartline's Saltbox is nestled in a darling tobacco basket ornament gifted to me by sweet Shelly. Tulip House was the next house . It certainly was bright and cheerful. To celebrate strawberry season, I shared the Strawberry Saltbox in April. One of the most enjoyable houses that I stitched this year was Freedom House. It stitched up quickly. The Ole' Crow Saltbox Aunt Mariah's Autumn Saltbox was filled with kitty cats and pumpkins. For all of those candy corn lovers out there, I stitched Candy Corn House in September. It was such a fun stitch and worked up quickly. In November, I went turkey crazy , when I stitched Turkey Holler Saltbox. I began December with a tranquil house called Christmas at Underwood Lane . Well that is 2022's saltboxes and houses in a nutshell. I am over the moon with how they turned out. I am already brewing up ideas for 2023. If you have any suggestions , let me know . You just might see them in a future home. Have a very lovely day and as always . Happy quilting and stitching, ya'll Melisa When there is love in the home, there is joy in the heart! ❤💓💖 Hugs and Stitches!!! 🤗❤🧵 Dedicated to my dear sister, Amy. I will miss your call this year. Love and miss you., Amo ❤❤❤

It is a fabulous rainy Friday here in the holler. It is supposed to rain for the next two days. In fact , Saturday supposed to be downright nasty with chances of wind gusts. Rainy days means it is a great time to hunker down in the quilt room and enjoy fabric , needle and thread. Don't you think? Last Friday began Pam Buda's of Heartspun Quilts Glad Tidings Sew Along . Part 1 was posted Dec. 3, 2021. And in no time flat, I had the main units stitched up. Part 2 of the sew along will be posted today. But guess what? I went ahead and sewed my little quilt up!😀🧵 It was such a quick and enjoyable quilt to work on. I alternated my reds and greens compared to Pam's. Next week perhaps I will spend my time quilting. it. Last night, I did a little finishing on another Barnyard Christmas ornament. This one is called Christmas Stack . I have been wanting to try to stitch a horse for the Barnyard series for so long. I am going to name this horse Marjorie after my daughter's horse that she had for a very short time. A teeny little sheep and pig is stacked on the horse's back. So cute. If you would like to stitch this little piece , please check out the links below . Many of you know , but I always like to leave this little disclaimer. I stitch my little designs for fun and to decorate my home. I feel very blessed by this community and love sharing my little charts, but I am not a professional designer. And I do not have professional software. Thank you for understanding that I have to put each page on separate pdf downloads because of the devices I use. I apologize for that. And I am always grateful for your kind encouragement , your visits, and stitching my little designs. Click here for Instruction page. Click here for Colored Chart. Click here for Black / White Chart. Before I start, get comfortable, am going to share many photographs! Let me also say I am in sensory overdrive. One of the reasons I made the decision to participate in a quilting class was to feed my creative juices. One of the ways I feed my creative juices is by surrounding myself with creative people. Today's class far exceeded my expectations. This is the teachers Pottery Shards quilt. Lovely! She is a very precise quilter and the quality of her work is outstanding. I was the only person who had another Pottery Shards to share. Mine is pieced and awaiting borders and backing. More on this later. Now, don't go thinking because I was the only person who had Pottery Shards to share that my fellow classmates had been idle. Quiet the opposite--they had been busy, very, very busy. Martha, who is one of the resident appliqué queens, had been working on this wool appliqué quilt by Primitive Gatherings. Yes, it is a miniature and it was exquisite! Terri had been working on this Jo Morton quilt. I do not remember the name but Terri said it was an older Jo Morton kit. The border on this quilt was fabulous. This quilt is Jo Morton Scrappiness, which was last months quilt. Please don't think this classmate is a slacker because she didn't have Pottery Shards completed, because she made two Scrappiness quilts! Both were beautiful! Another appliqué queen had been working on the Jo Morton Yankee Doodle quilt. This is the center medallion. Each of those pieces which make up the star are smaller than a dime! Carmen did not have Pottery Shards finished because she had finished Houses of Hawk Run Hollow by Carriage House. It was beautiful! Am still thinking about stitching the entire piece. Stacy Nash taught a class at Three Sisters in Knoxville. This is also Carmen's. Hope everyone is beginning to see my classmates have been keeping their needles busy. On my drive to class, I passed these glorious day lilies. The merchants in Franklin had planted them along the street. They were everywhere and blooming in their full glory. There must have been a few thousand! Seeing them in their glory certainly put a smile on my face. Whew! There is more to share, stay tuned.

Fragments (Floating Fragments pattern by Jamie Siel) top completed 2024 78.5 by 65 inches (pieced area 72 by 58.5 inches) 12 blocks White is Kona Snow Red scraps Jamie Siel of Sew Brainy Designs has a delightful pillow pattern series she does for Riley Blake. Her October 2023 "Floating Fragments" pillow begged to be scaled up to quilt size. Her description of it is HERE. The pattern tutorial is HERE. The pillow pattern makes an 18 inch block. It is a sophisticated design, not random. Note there is an underlying structure of every other unit being a bullseye. Cutting directions are a bit fiddly as she is using specific color placement. I cut my scraps to size and made the units, carefully followed her block pattern for a sample block, then used that as a guide to place my units onto for the rest of the blocks. I wanted to keep fabric orientation consistent in the quilt, so my own added fiddliness was managed by using that sample block for patch and unit placement. Block A Block B I used my 2 1/2 inch square bin for the bullseye units. I pressed all these seams away from the red square. Cutting for the other unit: I am planning another quilt with 3 1/2 inch squares, so I cut a strip of 3 1/2 inch wide fabric, cut off a 1 1/2 inch piece and a 3 inch piece that I cut down to a square. Made efficient use of my cutting time. (Then I cut remainder of the strip to 3 1/2 inch squares for that future project.) For this unit I pressed first seams away from the white. I pressed final seams towards that insert plain white piece. I used Julie's tutorial directions with a couple of changes to make it into a quilt. One, I decided to make the quilt a bit wider than three blocks would yield, so I added one extra unit at the edge of each row in the four blocks that would be the right side of the quilt. These units were the same that would have been there if I made it a whole block wider. This resulted in me making 8 of Block A and 4 of Block B. Second, I maintained a pressing plan. As I made the rows for each block I pressed the the units towards the bullseye units so all rows nested. I waited with the horizontal pressing until column assembly. And third, I added a simple border. Layed out the quilt, and sewed the blocks into columns, pressing the outer two columns south and the center column north. Sewed columns together (all row seams nest). To aid stability and to let the reds float, I added a border: Sides cut 3 1/2 by 72 1/2 inches Top and bottom cut 3 1/2 by 65 inches I will bind with the Kona Snow Jamie's wonderful design sized for a pillow. Use my modifications to make a quilt at your pleasure. Backing is from a bolt I bought over 20 years ago. I had used from the bolt in the distant past and thought there would not be enough, but there was! A sweet winter scene called Blessings of the Season by RJR Fashion Fabrics. I really enjoyed this year's 4 inch block sew-a-long by Temecula Quilt Company. I loosely followed her patterns, adding more of my own. A few are scaled down from the current Moda Blockheads sew-a-long. I have several blocks yet to make to get the quilt to the size I want. I am using a Patience Corner set. Four little blocks come together to make one 12 inch finished block. The setting pieces are cut 2 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches and 2 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches.

Sherri at A Quilting Life posted her summer goals and laid down a challenge to do the same, so here are my Summer Goals (as far as sewing goes!) I think this started with Karen, who inspired Anna and then to Sherri and now me! 1) Keep up with the EQ7 Summer Drawing Series-- we are on part 3 already! 2) Keep on top of the freebie blocks from Primitive Gatherings Block 5 arrived on Wednesday. 3) Ditto on the Words to Live By blocks. 4) Make the July Schnibbles quilt 5) Quilt this monster to donate to the Camp Knutson auction. 6) Now that this is layered, start hand quilting! 7) Make these Wal-Mart sheets into closet curtains. 8) Piece the backing and binding for this top. 9) And this top.... 10) And this one too! I could add a few more things--like figuring out a setting for my Grandmother's Choice blocks, and making more of those pesky little two inch finished Temecula basket blocks, but I'll think about that tomorrow!
I taught another Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star Ruler class again this week and I remembered to take a few photos.... There were a couple stars made in patriotic colors...... perfect for Lemoyne Stars. Two gals were working on this Laura Ingalls Wilder quilt using the new Little House on the Prairie fabrics from Andover. They decided to use their Lemoyne Stars from the class to replace one of the blocks in the quilt. They get their fabrics by mail each month from a shop in New Ulm, MN. These are my Clue Four blocks from the ThimbleCreek mystery. I had a "V8" revelation about half way through sewing these-- Wow! I could have used the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler....duh!! Last Friday's Temecula Circa 2016 blocks--new ones posted today!! And another week of 365 blocks--I used up some stray half square triangles to fill my basket block. The instructions come through to my email about 8 am every morning. Some days I make the block right away, but occasionally I end up "collecting" the patterns and make 3 or 4 at a time . I'm still pretty excited about this project--no "quilt fatigue" yet on this project! I have more to show, but it will have to wait for another day--happy sewing!!
