An old photograph of London Transport (LT) tram No. 2410 showing service '57 - Hounslow Depot' destination blinds, and an interesting looking but unidentified vehicle standing next to it. Hounslow Depot was renamed Isleworth Depot in Jul 1950. I assume that this part of the depot looks like it does because it was where cars waiting to be scrapped were stored, service 57 changed to trolleybus operation in Oct 1935. The photograph was taken by 'Frank' D. W. K. Jones on the 26 Oct 1935, the reverse is annotated "Hounslow Depot. c.1937". No. 2410 was an ex London United Tramways (LUT) type 'W' open top 8 wheel tram (LUT No. 261) built in 1902 by Milne seating 70 and running on Brill 22E maximum traction side bearing trucks. In 1928 it was rebuilt with extended canopies and roof, but this was found to be so expensive that the other type 'W' cars (157, 161, 211, and 243) simply had a top cover fitted, all then being known as type 'WT' with seating changed to 30/44. The LUT rolling stock transferred to the LPTB in Jul 1933, LUT No. 261 becoming LT No. 2410, it then worked until being replaced by trolleybuses (route 57 being replaced in Oct 1935). It was scrapped in Jul 1936, the parts of the London tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to trolleybus/bus operation closing in Jul 1952.
