Hi Stampers! Over the years I have learned many stamping techniques. I enjoy using most of them, however I tend to forget about some techniques until something jogs my memory. I was perusing my Stampin’ Up!®️ 2023-2024 Annual Catalog and a card on page 81 that features the It’s A Science stamp set, reminded me of the emboss resist technique, even though that technique was not used on the card! Today’s cards were created using the It’s A Science stamp set. The backgrounds feature the emboss resist technique. I simple stamped the image multiple times with Versa Mark on Basic White cardstock, sprinkled white embossing powder over the cardstock, and heat set the images. Then, I used blending brushes to add and blend color. I would not categorize these backgrounds as “quick & easy,” but neither took all that much time to create and the technique is “fairly easy.” Let’s take a look at the cards: EMBOSS RESIST BACKGROUND TECHNIQUE HOW TO * Rub the embossing buddy or anti-static pad over the Basic White cardstock * Use Versa Mark (embossing ink) to stamp the image multiple times on the cardstock * Sprinkle the white embossing powder over the stamped cardstock * Heat set with heat tool * Use inked blending brushes to add color to the cardstock. The embossed images will remain white IT’S A SCIENCE STAMP SET PRODUCT DETAILS HERE VIDEO IT’S A SCIENCE - EMBOSS RESIST BACKGROUND TECHNIQUE WAYS TO ACHIEVE A SIMILAR LOOK * CLEAR EMBOSSING POWDER Substitute clear embossing powder for the white embossing powder. The images will be just a bit more subtle, but still a results in a great background. *WHITE CRAFT INK (Pigment Ink) If you do not own a heat tool or embossing powder, but you have a white craft pad and ink you can create a card with a similar look. Use the blending brushes to add color to the cardstock. Stamp the image on the prepared cardstock several times using the white ink. Allow the ink to air dry or dry with heat tool. The images will be a bit more subtle, but you will still end up with a great background! BONUS TIP No blending brushes? No problem! You can use sponges, sponge daubers, sponge brayers, rubber brayers, etc. to apply ink to the cardstock. OVERREACT BIRTHDAY CARD SUPPLIES FOR THIS CARD * It’s A Science stamp set * Card base - Pumpkin Pie cardstock cut at 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4” * Mat for focal panel - Daffodil Delight - 5 1/4” x 4” * Focal panel - Basic White cardstock - 5” x 3 3/4” * Inside panel - Daffodil Delight 5 1/4” x 4” * Basic Black cardstock - cut 4 at 1/2” x 5” * Scrap of Melon Mambo cardstock for greeting * Scrap of Basic White cardstock for microscope * Small pieces (2) of vellum cardstock * Inks - Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Memento Tuxedo Black, Versa Mark (embossing ink); Stampin’ Blends - Granny Apple Green (dark), Fresh Freesia (dark),Daffodil Delight (dark),Tahitian Tide (dark), Smoky Slate (light and dark), Basic Black(light) * White embossing powder * Blending brushes * Tools - embossing buddy, heat tool, scissors (for fussy cutting) * Stylish Shapes Dies - banner die that fits greeting) * Adhesive, liquid glue, and dimensionals ASSEMBLY NOTES * Stamp the beaker images stamp on vellum cardstock inked with Versa Mark, sprinkle white embossing powder over it, remove excess embossing powder, heat set. Turn image over and use Stampin’ Blends to add color to the back side of the beaker images. Next use a sponge and liquid glue to “pounce” glue on the backside of the stamped image. Adhere this to another piece of vellum. Let the glue dry a few minutes, then fussy cut each beaker. * Once the color had been added to the focal panel put a line of liquid glue or adhesive along the bottom and adhere one of the Basic Black strips. Repeat the process over the top of the Basic Black strip and add the next strip. Continue the process until all the strips have been adhered. This forms the table to hold the microscope and beakers. * I used dimensionals to attach the beakers to the card. They are very visible on the Fresh Freesia colored beaker, but not quotes as noticeable on the darker colored beakers. I decided this was okay. The dimensionals look like something floating around in the beaker!😁 * The greeting is embossed using the white embossing powder and it is attached with dimensionals. BIRTHDAY SCIENCE CARD SUPPLIES FOR THIS CARD * It’s A Science stamp set * Card base - Lemon Lime Twist cardstock - 11” x 4 1/4” scored and folded at 5 1/2” * Mat - Basic Black - 5 1/4” x 4” * Focal panel - 5” x 3 3/4” * Vellum cardstock - two small pieces that fit the beakers image or image you wish to use * Basic Black cardstock - 4 pieces cut at 3 3/4” x 1/2” * Scraps of Basic Black and Basic White cardstock for greeting. * Inks - Versa Mark, Memento Tuxedo Black, Azure Afternoon, Lemon Lime Twist, Daffodil Delight; Stampin’ Blends - Cajun Craze (dark), Lemon Lime Twist (dark), Daffodil Delight (dark), Azure Afternoon (dark) * Embossing powder - white * Blending brushes * Tools - Embossing Buddy, heat tool, scissors (for fussy cutting) * Adhesive, liquid glue, and dimensionals ASSEMBLY NOTES * This card is very similar to the previous card when assembling. The 4 strips of Basic Black cardstock are applied to the bottom of the focal point just as the ones are in the card above. * For the greeting I stamped it on a scrap of Basic White cardstock, then trimmed it with my trimmer. Next, I adhered the greeting to a scrap of Basic Black cardstock an trimmed with my trimmer. If you prefer to measure the cardstock pieces, the Basic White is 3/4” x 2 1/4”. The Basic Black cardstock mat is 1” x 2 1/2”. I'm excited to formally introduce you to our new 2023-2025 In Colors. I'll be honest here, I didn't love them all at first, but I'm learning to love them the more I use them and they're going to work GREAT for fall projects! All of my card are identical and use the exact same products. I added a Misty Moonlight ruler to all of them for an extra pop. Misty Moonlight is a returning In Color now in our Neutrals group and I love it! I used the Crafting With You Bundle and I couldn't be more in love with those scissors and the paper trimmer dies!! How cute is it too that we have our own Cut and Emboss Machine stamp?! So fun! All the scissors are made with Silver Foil for their blades and a silver Festive Pearl for the bolt. See more with the new In Colors here. First up is Pebbled Path. I really love this tone. When paired with browns it's more brown, when paired with grays it's more gray. It's a good color. This one might actually be my favorite of the five. Next up is Moody Mauve. When I first saw this color I immediately thought of our old Rococo Rose In Color. I used that one a bunch. This one is more purplish I think then Rococo Rose was but it's a really pretty color. I'm excited to use this one more. Boho Blue is the next one. We had a sneak peek of Boho Blue during Sale-a-Bration. You might remember the Mini Boho Blue Cut and Emboss Machine. I love mine! Boho Blue is going to coordinate beautifully with our other blues like Misty Moonlight and Night of Navy. We've reached Wild Wheat. This is going to be a controversial color this year. I think people will have strong opinions for this one. You might really hate it. Trust me I get it. I was in that boat too, but the more I use it the more it grows on me. Is it my favorite, no. Will it be my favorite, no. But I think there's a place for it for sure. Finally we have Copper Clay. I was worried about this one because you might be aware of my dislike for Cajun Craze. I'm happy to report that this one isn't as red a Cajun Craze. This one will be a great go to for fall. So what do you think? Do you have favorites? I'd love to know your thoughts on this years In Colors. Shop my Online Store. Thanks for looking, see you soon!!!
