I can't get enough of the Peaceful Poppies Designer Paper. And I knew I had to use it along with the sentiment "just a note" from the fantastic Music From the Heart Stamp Set to create
When you start with a stamp from the Beautiful Moments Stamp Set, it's hard to beat simple stamping. I rarely make a card without die-cutting, but this card is just stamps, ink and paper; true
Yay, the Artisan Design Team are hopping today with projects created using products from the upcoming Sale-A-Bration brochure. The Sale-A-Bration pre-earn period is finally here - from 3 December 2019 to 2 January 2020! This means that demonstrators can earn items in the Sale-A-Bration Shop offering early. For every $110 you spend, you choose a free item from the Sale-A-Bration brochure that matches the level you spent. Demonstrators can even use the pre-order of the January-June mini catalogue and purchase items from that catalogue or any other current catalogue, and earn free Sale-A-Bration products! If you aren’t a demonstrator yet, this is a great sneak peek to see what is in store for Sale-A-Bration beginning 3 January 2020! This is just one of the many fabulous perks of being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator. How cute is this Lovely Lily Pad Stamp Set? And of course, it gets better! There are co-ordinating Lily Pad Dies! The lilies on both these cards have been embossed with White Emboss Powder, heat set and water coloured. The background on the right card has been created by using one of the die cuts from the set as a mask with Emboss Paste and then splattered with Champagne Mist. This stamp set has the added bonus of being a "Reversibles" so the outline image can be stamped first, turned over and stamped again to colour in the image. So versatile as it caters for those who love to colour in and those that don't! The background has been created by embossing "Celebrate" from the Happy Birthday to You Sale-A-Bration set and adding a water colour wash over it. I also used the Dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blend on the lines of the Lily to add a little more depth once I had stamped it. Stampin' Blends have been used to colour the Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon too so it co-ordinates with my cards. The Sequins are from the Peaceful Poppies Suite and before I adhered them with glue I used my Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker to create a little black dot. This made placement easy and I like the look of the sequins being filled in! This pre-order/pre-earn opportunity is an exclusive benefit for demonstrators to enable them to get products early so they are prepared when Sale-A-Bration starts on 3 January. Next up is my fabulous friend Ashley van Camp, her cards are gorgeous! Please keep hopping along and check out all the stunning projects created by the rest of the team - here's a little sneak peek to whet your appetite! If you live in New Zealand and would like to become a Demonstrator I would love you to join Stampin' Up! and become part of my Stamping Beauties team. 2017 Topic 5: Blue and Ochre Martha Kisling Well hello everyone, Darcy here with a brand new topic and this week sees us returning to a colour scheme. This time we have the beautiful combination of blue and ochre for you. As with all our challenges the options are almost limitless, from huge variations in the colours, to mediums and substrates used to the amazing array of things you can make. What do the colours blue and ochre mean to you? there are lots of shades to choose from,. The blues of water and the sky, with variations of aqua and then ochre is a warm earthy yellow, that too has a range of shades from the palest sands through to deep mustards. How will you be inspired to use these colours? Look up, look down, look all around. Duomo, Siena Before we start, let's see who won the Topic 4: Doors,Windows and Architecture The winner is: Lin from Art from Herts Email Darcy to claim your prize. [email protected] Blue is a very popular colour, a firm favourite with many, it is also a complex colour due to the many varieties. Dark blue can mean intelligence, bright blue is representative of cleanliness and strength and light blue is peace and serenity. The eye sees blue slightly differently to other colours, often blues will seem further away and smaller objects in other colours. It can be a very cold colour and is best used in conjunction with another colour. it worked superbly with orange, as that is the opposite colour on the colour wheel, which brings us to ochre. While ochre is from the yellow hue, it is one of the warmer shades of yellow, and does have some hints of red in there. This brings it a little closer to the oranges and so it fits really well with blue. As for blue and ochre paints, well ancient humans were not able to paint with blue, it is not a colour of the earth. Cave paintings were severely lacking in blue. the first real blue came from lapis lazuli, this is a semi precious stone and had to be mined. The Egyptians prized this colour, but it was rare and this drove alchemist to create new blues, so popular was blue that by roman times there were factories set up just to create blue pigments! Ochre colour gets its name from ochre clay, this is found the world over and comes in many shades, ranging from the palest, almost white through to deep reds, there are also green ochres. There were so many shades, ancient tribes would trade colours with each other to expand their palettes. Over time it has been mixed with saliva, water, eggs or animal fats to make paints. It is one of the oldest forms of painting and is found in many cave paintings. Let's have some fun exploring these two gorgeous colours. Your project will change dramatically depending how much you use of each colour. this sign is predominantly ochre/mustard, but with just a pop of blue it is brought to life . Stacey Pfahler This beautiful fabric makes great use of blue and ochre, and teams them with a subtle, soft grey and white. you could create this so easily with some Lin Brown, Sara Naumann or Urban Snapshot stamps. IKOPlus Think how you can interpret these images, could you take a plain white pot and make it your own using PaperArtsy Fresco paints. John Maltby If you are a quilter you will love the simplicity of this next one. How could a papercrafter create this? strips of patterned paper, layered painted papers, a bit of machine stitching and topped off by some stencilling? Sabi Westoby How about some hand embroidery instead, be inspired by these lush colours are perfect little flower heads. LoveMaude Staying with fabric, this is such a sweet wall piece, stretched fabric and a felt flower! You could of course make paper flowers, PaperArtsy has some great metal dies for cutting your own blooms. bedbuggs How cute is this handpainted piece of wall art, ideal for a kid's room. KatyB For more home decor how about swirling some Fresco paint around inside some old glass jars, don't these look so classy.. Ashley While you are upcycling, why not create a collection of frames in these fabulous shades. The SpeckledEgg Easter is almost upon us, the chocolate never lasts long, so why not go for a painted egg instead.. well maybe have the chocolate too! These are painted goose eggs from Romania. Bukovina How about some accent colours for a spring outfit, simple beads and other embellishments make for an interesting bracelet. Gomeow Cardmaking uses this colour scheme really well, especially when teamed with punchy and clean white. PaperCraftyKaren Another card, this time stamped like a masterboard and coloured with distress inks. Alex For something a bit different, try making some Dorset buttons. They ar fascinating and so easy to make, they make for beautiful embellishments. Anita Simmance Finally a stunning tag, painty layers, collage and stamping. Jolande Have a wonderful 2 weeks everyone, I hope you have fun with all the different shades of these gorgeous colours, please do show us what you have made. Things have felt different since 2020, so different I would almost call it creepy. If I had to put it romantically, I'd call it supernatural. Whatever it is, it is impossible to ignore. Perhaps it is "The Age of Aquarius" that is responsible for all the radical changes in people, places, weather, ideas, that we see today.
Topic 11: Hidden Objects Hi everyone, Leandra here Well this is a bit of tricky topic isn't it! For a start, how can we show pictures of things that are 'hidden' ??? Well we do love a challenge, and I have plenty of images, and even though there is no video from me this week, I have sourced 2 other videos for you to watch to get your heads ticking...more of that in a bit For now, as you might be aware, we are currently up in the north of England at the Stamp magic show in Doncaster. No doubt by now we are hopefully packed up and driving home, but the upshot of our activity is that there is no one around to draw the challenge winner, so we will announce it here tomorrow. So very sorry for the anticlimax, but do check back this time tomorrow by which time Darcy will have updated this post to announce who has won! Darcy here... What a great topic to explore bottles was ...who knew so much could be done with bottles. I can see a lot less bottles going out in the recycling box now. From tiny accent bottles to large vases and garden lanterns, textured paper vases and some fantastic paint effects. Well done everyone! Sooooo, the winning name from Topic 10:Bottles..goes to...Georgina Ford from Kaardvark So....it's Leandra back with you tonight to explore Hidden Objects. First up this really caught my eye...technically its not hidden...but the words on the page infer that it is, and that's good enough for me..you can see more pictures here on the flickr feed In the same vein...is it hidden...isn't it?? I don't mind, but there are pockets involved, and transparent or not, they still fit the vibe! I love this idea, and really great if you have collected holiday mementos for example. Another one for the is-it-hidden-or-isn't-it category, I do love a bit of a glassine envelope! With the vintage theme, this piece it looks stunning! This is exactly what I had in mind fro this topic...stealth journalling..and I love how these sleeves are custom-made as are the tags inside! It's the brainchild of Michelle Ward, and if you go here to the post, it's part of her Crusade Series, you will found a downloadable printable, and more instructions on the rest of the project and process. I love Michelle's use of colour and composition, well worth a look! So this is another wrapped up item...in fact if you go to the post, you will see they have tied up all kinds of objects! I like that not only are the items hidden below...well almost! But if you go to the post, there are boxes etc tied up with no access allowed, and no sense of what is inside. So you can wrap in all kinds of ways! This next example is from Robin-Marie Smith, circa 2010! Again, it's a simple pocket with hidden contents, journalling style. There is a wealth of colour, texture on her blog, I adore her style, so cheerful and full of sunshine. Here's an actual book made from envelopes. I have heaps of these, they are quite dinky in size, and great if you want to keep special things or vintage items a bit more private. Here's the link to the post. And here is another idea, this is from a French blog, and there are several ideas using a correspondence theme for travel journalling/ scrapping. I love how she has used airmail envelopes to scrapbook onto, it looks so cool around the edges! Check out the post here from some more fabulous ideas! Here is another pocket style idea... ...with an instructional video ...And the cousin to pockets is of course flaps I found this one from a Faber Castell Blog Hop. It's mail art and boy that takes me back! We used to send mail art regularly way back when...like over a decade ago!! It's so much fun as the recipient gets very excited about how beautiful the outside looks, so they are itching to see what is inside! Perhaps you might like to send something to somebody this week, and decorate the envelope? Now this one is a bit different... Crafty Dogma on Flickr has created a collage, but the face is kind of hidden, or looks almost shrouded, Whatever it is, I really like the effect that the person is kind of hiding behind something...I think the use of white helps contribute to that impression. Here is another face, but it's a face behind a face which is very clever, inferring quite a bit about the ageing process. It's from a tumblr account. I think its wonderful imagery! ...this little guy is hidden, and in a bit of a pickle too by the look of it! This one is also interesting. Objects on fabric, with what looks like a soft layer of muslin glued/ stitched over the top and moulded carefully around the items to show their relief. In crafting terms, we tend to do this in a similar way with objects slathered in paint or gesso. Niches also work for this topic, especially if you put doors on them!! Like the Shadowbox below....see the door to the left? Itching to open that!! And lastly, here is a totally stunning book...well more like many books inside books! With a fabulous message about patience buried in the centre! Check out the video below. You must go to the site of the book artist Randi Parkhurst! You can and watch the video here or click play below to see how she has impeccably constructed these books. Patience from Glowing Heads on Vimeo. So you have 2 weeks to think about what you can hide and where! If you are still stuck, check out my pinterest board here for this Topic. I will be pinning loads more over the next 2 weeks, you can follow this and many other PA related boards here. You can also follow the PaperArtsy pinterest page here. Whatever you choose to do, we can't wait to see it! Don't forget the challenge is open for 2 weeks for you to join in! ~Leandra Topic 11:Hidden Objects. Hello Stampers! Here is one of the very first cards I have made using the "Beautiful You" stamp set available soon in the Stampin' Up! Occasions catalog that goes live on January 4th. Sale-a-Bration, Stampin' Up!'s biggest sale of the year, starts at the same time!! Very few supplies were needed for this card. I did this one using the Stamp-a-ma-jig to get the figures very close to each other. I did another card without using the Stamp-a-ma-jig. It turned out good too but the figures were a little further apart. This is a regular size A2 card (finished size 5.5" x 4.25") I stamped all the ladies first with Tuxedo Black memento ink then stamped all but one dress with Smokey Slate ink. Finally I stamped the sentiment and the last dress in Real Red classic ink. The 'Hello You' thinlits were used to cut the "you" out of Real Red card stock.Very subtle and hard to see on the photo are the three tiniest pearls I added for a necklace on the lady in red. Hope you love the simplicity as much as I do. Click on the icon below to get everything you need for this project...except the Beautiful You stamp set which will not be available until January 4th. WAIT!! YOU could already HAVE this stamp set if you were a demonstrator! Why not JOIN MY TEAM?? Send me an email if interested at [email protected] Happy Stampin'! Hi everyone! I thought I might share an easy project today and some tips on using the foam stamps. I really love the new Cutout alphabets that were just released but I admit I'm always anxious about getting a good impression with foam stamps. Of course if I was using them for a mixed media background or art journal I wouldn't be as concerned about a perfect impression. That kind of project will be saved for another day. I started with a large Vignette Tray for the surface. I prepped the edges of the tray with Picket Fence Distress paint and let that dry. I used Collage Medium to adhere different strips of paper from the Wallflower Paper Stash and the new Worn Wallpaper pack. These two products go together so well that it will be hard to choose which pattern to use! Once the paper is secure, add a thin layer of the Collage Medium over the top to seal. (click on photo to enlarge) To add the words you can stamp directly on to the surface (which I find a bit scary) or use Plain Collage Paper like I did. Here is my easy method: My secret weapon is Dina's Media Black Gesso. I love how thick and creamy the gesso is! You could use a brayer to add the gesso but I find that a bit messy so I use an old dabber bottle (you know, the kind that the Distress Paint used to come in). I cleaned out the paint, added the Black Gesso and put on a new dabber top. The Media Black Gesso comes in a jar as well as a tube. The tube is much easier to squeeze into the bottle but if you have the jar, just use a palette knife as scoop it in. Now I'm ready for this project as well as many others. The gesso will stay soft and usable in the bottle even if it is not used for many months. ps) when cleaning paint out of the old bottle - do it over the trash can not the kitchen sink, as there is a mixing ball in the bottle and you wouldn't want it to go down the garbage disposal. Now if you do get a mixing ball down your garbage disposal (not that I would know anything about that) one might use a shop vac to get it out. just saying... My Stamp Platform works perfectly for the stamping portion because I can stamp the image as many times as I need to get a good clean image. The Collage Paper is thin and porous so I always lay a paper towel on my Stamp Platform to absorb an excess gesso/paint. Add the Plain Collage Paper (both are held in place with the magnets) to secure everything. You might notice I have 4 magnets...I bought an extra set just so I could secure larger things like this. I arranged each word I could on the paper. I could stamp "make" and "count" at the same time because they do not share letters. I stamped "today" in another round because I needed the o and the a from the first words. To be honest, this is actually easier than trying to gauge your word placement on the paper rather than on the project. Bring the top plate down, press and pick up the Foam Stamps. Now we are ready to stamp. Now just squeeze and pounce the Black Gesso onto the Foam Stamps. As you can see it is just a nice smooth coat of paint. If you have never done it before, just give yourself a practice run before you commit to the final. Press down on the top plate to get a good impression. If it does not give a dark enough image the first time, just add more gesso and stamp again. 1st press - not too bad but I think I will add gesso to the words one more time. 2nd press - now that looks great! The gesso dries quickly but if you are in a real hurry, you can use a heat tool. Once you have each of the three words stamped onto the Collage Paper, use a water brush to cut away the excess. The paper will only rip along the water line (trust me). This will leave you with a rough, almost furry edge which is exactly what we want. Add Collage Medium to the Vignette Tray where you expect the words to go. Press the Collage Paper down into the medium to adhere. Once all three words have been added, go over the entire surface with a thin layer of the medium. All the feathered edges (that you got by using the water brush) will fade into the patterned background...just like magic. Once the Collage Paper was dry, I added Distress Crayon Walnut Stain around all the edges of the Vignette Tray using a wet wipe to mellow it out. I also flicked Picket Fence Distress Paint over the entire surface. I used a wet wipe to remove the paint splatters from the black letters. For the little vignette, I painted a frame from the Vignette Frames pack with Iced Spruce Distress Paint. Once dry, I rubbed Picket Fence Distress Paint over the raised bumps to highlight the detail. TIP: There are four Vignette Frames in each pack and each frame matches one of the Vignette Boxes. The metal in the corner is from the Vignette Accents pack. I used a combination of Picket Fence Distress Paint, Patina Alcohol Ink and Gold Mixative to get this finish. Yummy right? The Paper Doll is my favorite part. I tinted her with a hat a dress with Distress Markers then lightly wiped Collage Medium over the hat, dress and tights. I quickly sprinkled Clear Rock Candy over the surface. Once dry I added a piece of ruffle from a vintage petticoat. It was already gathered at the top so I just cut away some of the netting to expose the ruffles and glued it into place. I have been waiting about 3 years to find a way to use the old ruffle! I also added a cute Wishbone and Story Stick with Tim Holtz Craft Thread because I thought, who wouldn't want to wear this party dress 365 days of the year? I hope you will try this easy technique to stamp with foam. It really helps me to not be so stressed out about not getting the perfect stamp. I mean really, who wants to make a project and then mess up on the stamping part? Not me! now carry on, paula
Today I am happy to share how to make this stinkin' cute denim pocket card using images from the Pocketful of Sunshine stamp set, the coordinating Pocket Framelits dies, some fun embellishments,
