Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! My mom is going to probably get me tomorrow, but several of my friends and I were comparing early 80's pictures. We were supposed to find a picture from 1980 with our mom, but the closest one I could find was 1982. Since I was cute and it's over 30 years old, here's the picture I showed them :) If your mom is like mine, she helped you with projects, took you swimming, made your favorite meals, played Nintendo with you (AND sent you to bed while she continued to play), took you shopping for first day of school outfits, banquets, and other special events, and is now the person you send pictures to if you want to make sure something isn't tacky. Definitely in trouble tomorrow for the picture, but she loves me, so she will forgive me. Plus, I'm her mini me, so the picture of her is a skinny version of me today. This weekend has definitely been productive for me, but it has been one of those weekends where there's very little to share. Last week, I fought allergies every day. If it had been any other time of year, I probably would have take a day off to rest, but when it's this close to the end of the school year there are meetings almost every afternoon. Plus, I have to be honest, I am kind of proud of the fact that I've only missed 3 1/3 days this year. At this point, I should easily be able to make it until Summer Break, right? Well, to make a long story short, I didn't end up taking a day, but by the time I got to Friday my voice was pretty much gone. Not to mention, mornings are torture for me when I don't have my allergies under control. I ended up spending the weekend getting my voice back, sleeping, and creating. Before I forget, if you are a blogger that follows me feel free to link up on my Fab Friends page. That way it will be easier for me to find you and for my other blogging friends to find you. Also, don't forget, if you like these shirts click on the picture and go order one. It will look great with jeans or shorts this summer and it will help someone give a little baby a home where they will be loved. Alright, now I have two freebies. One, I had Friday, but I forgot to post it. I'm sorry guys because I know you can't use it now for Mother's Day, but it would still be cute for Father's Day or for an end of the year teacher gift. Below are pictures of the pages. If you want this set, click on it and grab it. My other freebie is a set of two conjunction worksheets. This is one skill that I haven't had a lot of time to cover, so I threw these together tonight. I figured if I haven't had a chance to use them, then you may also need them. If you like them, click on the pictures and it will take you to the sheets. Stay tuned tomorrow! My 2nd Grade Summer Fun packet is finished. I have a few friends proofreading it and then I will post pictures and post it to TPT.

Winter is just around the corner and I have been working hard on our Winter Math and Literacy Packet for Kindergarten! I am happy to say that it is
I have no idea where to start with writing tonight. I took one day off and now I'm thinking, "Oh, my goodness! Why do these people all want to follow me?" I keep trying to think of a funny story and honestly, I can't think past the football game in the background. I'm a Georgia fan at heart (sorry Dad - it's not my fault), but ultimately I'm an SEC fan! I like the guy from Hawaii on Notre Dame, but I have to say, I hope Alabama slaughters them. Now, changing directions, this week we are working on types of sentences, so I threw together a quick sheet. If you guys are anything like me, we have the new common core standards, but our old resources don't align. At the beginning of the summer, I took apart every resource I had and realigned all of my notebooks. It took 4 days to do, but they are a work of art and MUCH better than a filing cabinet. However, many times there are only 5 problems on a page or the page is too easy or too complex. So, now I'm obsessed with creating my own sheets. Anyway, I'm saying all of that to say I have three new freebies for you. The first one is a rounding sheet. Honestly, I'm not sure it's a first grade standard anymore. I thought it was when I created it, but I've looked through all of the standards and our first grade teacher's guide and I can't find it, so I'm not sure. I do know the other two sheets are in our standards. One of them covers true/false addition problems and the other one covers declarative and interrogative sentences plus punctuation marks. If you like them, CLICK HERE to get them. Oh, and for all of my cat lovers out there (See Saturday's post), my hubby has changed my picture on his phone to that picture. Now, every time I call him, the picture of the cat pops up. That's okay... I'm sure I deserve it. I did sneak a boiled egg into his work boot a few years ago ;) Hope you guys are off to a good week!
It's time for Five for Friday by DoodleBugs Teaching. This one will definitely be one of my favorite ones because I have some cool things to share. I took these pictures last week. Our kindergarten TAs are just amazing! Love all the colors and habitats! They turned out great! Do you see this pile? I got a new printer for Christmas and literally JUST hooked it up two days ago. I am in love! I'm trying to get ahead and get everything printed off that I'm going to need the next few weeks. Freebies? Did I hear that you wanted a freebie? Well, since Easter is coming up and unfortunately so is testing, I pulled out a few of my freebies from last year. I hope you enjoy! Do you like Brain Breaks? Well, I am in LOVE with The Learning Station brain breaks. I found them on YouTube last year. They are perfect for rainy days and my kids ask for them over a movie when we are stuck inside. Here's the thing. I ordered one of the DVDs a few weeks ago and thought, "I'd love to be able to share these with my followers." Guess what? We are doing just that! I contacted my friends at The Learning Station and they are letting me give away ONE DVD bundle! Friends, it is worth $80. You have a week to enter and I seriously can't wait to make someone's day next week. a Rafflecopter giveaway So, I've been looking for some fun things to do with my class that are more hands-on, especially after testing in a few weeks. Here's a picture of one of my favorites - walking on eggs. Why yes, we will be doing that in my classroom in two weeks. If you don't believe me, ask my friends. I'll try anything once. You can read more about how to do this on Playdough to Plato. Oh, and make sure you check out Quirky Momma on Facebook. She posts the neatest things to try with your kids and even in your classroom. Have a Fantabulous Friday!
This product contains 21 reading comprehension passages with questions that target fluency and comprehension. The 21 reading passages are presented twice, in 2 versions, for easy differentiation. The passages can also be used digitally as an Easel activity. Version 1 asks the kids to answer each question in a complete sentence and color the evidence in the text. Version 2 teaches the kids to look in the text and find the text evidence without writing a sentence. The students will have to: *read the passage 3 times and color a star after each reading (for fluency) *read each question and color/ highlight the sentence within the text that contains the answer *write the answer using a complete sentence (version 1) *draw a picture that matches the text (version 2) The texts have different levels of difficulty for differentiation. This lesson asks the students to go back in the text to prove their answer. This is a pretty hard skill for 1st grade and needs plenty of modelling. I'm not sure that I've ever posted so late, but with no school tomorrow I timed my nap just right so that I could buy some extra creating hours. My To Do list is getting longer by the minute. For March, I want to create St. Patrick's Day centers, task cards, a small printable set, a spring printable set, spring centers, a summer packet, some bear freebies and some birthday freebies. Whew! That was a mouthful. The thing I'm looking most forward to are my birthday freebies. My birthday is coming up and I'm that crazy teacher that fully thinks that my birthday is a national holiday. Every year, I get my kids a special snack and cupcakes for my birthday. This year, I think I'm going to throw in birthday centers. Yes, I get that my birthday isn't really "that" big of a deal, but wouldn't you pay closer attention if the teacher had birthday centers and special treats? Plus, if I'm going to be at school on my birthday, then I am going to enjoy my day, so I will definitely be teaching some of my favorite skills. In other news, I am guessing 90% of my followers are like me - people that create non-stop for TPT. Knowing that bit of information, I'm going to admit my complete and utter failure tonight. I don't think I've managed to post one paid for item that didn't have at least one tiny mistake. It is driving me bonkers! I check over and over. I've had my friends check over and over. Yet, I miss something every time. I am waiting for that 4.0 to drop to a 3.0 for failure to get rid of random errors. Honestly, I think that's the reason I feel the need to give freebies. Hopefully, they make up for some of my mistakes. Tonight was an all time crazy one. So, I've been giving away my Lincoln and Washington Word Search for two weeks. Well, tonight one of my sweet buyers points out that I misspelled a word. I looked and didn't see it. It turns out it was in the actual word search. So, I fix it, repost it, and all is right with the world. That is all was right with the world for around 30 minutes. That's when my sweet buyer emailed and said when I corrected that mistake it created a new mistake. I had connected two of my words, so it made my correct word incorrect. This time, I decided to go through and check ALL the words. Good thing I did because when I moved the second word, it affected a third word. Seriously people! What is my deal? Thank goodness that someone told me I had made a mistake. I hate knowing there are people out there that still have no idea. All I'm thinking right now is major props to those people that achieve perfection. It is definitely my ultimate goal. Alright, since it's a little late, I am out before I say something ridiculously silly. Hopefully, I will be back tomorrow night with a few more "birthday" treats ;) Here's a little treat for tonight. It's an ABC Order worksheet and a Root Words worksheet. I hope you guys enjoy! Oh, and if you click on the March Book Reports picture above, you can find out more about that freebie. Happy Presidents' Day Ya'll!

Hello Everyone! I hope you are all having a good week so far! This week in writing along with "showing, not telling," we are also working on adding adverbs to make our good writing even better! I had the kids close their eyes and I gave them the sentence, "The fish swam." Then they had to describe the picture they had in their head. All the pictures were different! Then I gave them the sentence, "The mama fish swam quickly upstream after laying her eggs." (We are studying the life cycle of fish this week!) The kids described their visualization and were so much closer in what they "saw." Adverbs are a way to revise writing to make our stories more clear for our readers! We want to make our good writing even better! We brainstormed three different kinds of simple adverbs. Then the kids got busy creating and building their own sentences full of adverbs. A quote from one of my little cuties, "I just love doing this! I can't wait to use adverbs in my draft book writing!" They were so proud of their 15+ word sentences!! I was too!!! I did create a little unit (of course) just to keep me organized and on track. Here are a few pics. Unit includes nouns, verbs and adverbs. The kids know how to add adjectives. If you would like a quick copy of this unit, click HERE!! OK! Gotta run!! Working on some decor for our school's 10 year birthday party!! It's going to be spectacular!! Have a great rest of the week!! Don't be shy! Leave a comment! Your words make me want to be better! Joyfully! Nancy

It amazes me how much class size affects my teaching and my students. I started the year with 31 students. I just lost my second one at the beginning of this week, so I'm down to 29. I've had 2 kids out all week on long vacations and 2 more out sick. So I've had a class of 25 ALL week!! It's been a big difference. Even though the ones gone are little angels and I still have all the hard ones, it really makes a BIG difference!! Our district and researchers keep telling us that class size doesn't make a difference but I have to beg to differ with them. It makes a HUGE difference in first grade. With a smaller class I can spread myself out more- work with more kids, more often, for longer periods of time. We can get more done- 25 kids take less time to finish an assignment than 31. With all the activities we do in first grade through out the day it can really add up. With less kids, fighting for my attention, I can give more attention to those that really need it. During class discussions, there is more participation by more kids. The shyer kids start to open up. It just feels more like a close knit community rather than a big city. I can hardly imagine what it would be like to teach less than 20. What a dream!! Back to reality. Our school has been doing training in SIOP this year. It stands for Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol. You can find out more HERE. It actually is training in teaching English Language Learner but our school does not have a very high percentage of ELLs. We actually have only 3 out of 180 in our grade level. But the SIOP model is really best practices and a great review in how to teach better. With the new common core our principal thought is would be a great help. We've had to do lesson studies and just finished one yesterday. Our team did ours on Synonyms. It's great to collaborate and work together as a team developing and analyzing a lesson. Here's a practice page we used and a cute song we found. I don't know who to give credit for the song but our kiddos really liked it. Click HERE if you'd like to grab a copy. Hey, believe it or not but it's FRIDAY tomorrow- again! Gotta love FRIDAY! I hope you all have a GREAT one.
