AN UPDATE.... Now then you all know how much I love Crafty Individual Stamps from Jean and Malcolm. Jean, if you don't already know has opened her very own blog :) you can find her over here... http://craftyindividualsblog.blogspot.com/ I am just so excited that she has decided to run a monthly challenge for us so why not pop over and give her a great BIG warm welcome to blogland. I have completed my finger painting on text paper for this months Artist Trading Cards.... the 3 below are mine for the swap my other two are further down on another post. A bit scoooowy wifffffy as I failed to scan them straight...lol. TRY TILTING YOUR HEAD TO THE RIGHT as you look at them it just may help. As you can see I have used an old map from a book which I started altering about 6 months ago and NO I never got to finish it .... but hope to one day. Now for the start of the Bird challenge set for us by our talented artist and friend Godelieve the 2 below are hers, you may remember them. The colours and embossing are gorgeous you will agree. Crafty Individual stamp on the above and once again colour stands out. Whoever receives them will love them. Below are Debbies.. Using a fantastic stamp designed by Crafty Individuals she created a fun filled ATC well 5 of them to be exact and those feathers she she used she plucked from her feather duster leaving it almost bare and so now she is unable to get rid of the cobwebs in her house giving her more time to be creative.... girl after my own heart Answers on a post card please 'which came first the chicken OR the egg????' Thanks Debbie x All the way from Alberta Canada we have Electa's oh I am just loving the colours And hey that bird is wrapped up well as I know the winters in Canada can be rather cold, I was on holiday in Alberta about 11 years ago in July/august and one day the heavens opened and from out of the sky fell millions of golf balls.... I swear I thought they were as they were soooo big I had never seen hail stones like it before they were making dents in some cars.... AND I do remember strawberry's the size of apples and apples the size melons.... well nearly. I just had to show you the back of these atc's too. Thank you Electra x Hi Vonny, Thanks for entering your bird atc's I'm sorry but I dont recognise the stamps but I love them that nest is yummy could you tell me who's it is please. Great backgrounds great colours. Thank you. x Hi Sheila, Sorry yours are a bit lopped sided too so if you could just tilt your head or maybe stand on it you may get a birds eye view of them The one that catches my eye is the top left the 5 birds all cut from coordinating papers. And a little bit of embossing too. Thank u x Chris went crazy here with 2 of her birds Then she went all regal and gold on the 2 below I got one of the gold ones in my swap. the bottom one to be exact Thank you x Then comes mine...recognise the same stamp used on our designers ....a completely different look Bird Head CI stamp. This April we're having a very talented artist who's style is unique and eclectic with an exceptional attention to detail and a fresh approach to the creative spirit. She shares her love of techniques on her blog and reminds you that whatever you do each day just – "Make Art!”. Wendy Vecchi is a full time artist/designer and owner of studio 490. She is a signature designer for Ranger and Stampers Anonymous, and a past member the Tim Holtz and Maya Road design teams. Wendy loves to demo and teach at stores and events across the country and has been published in numerous publications. She was the guest instructor for the Artful Voyage in Mexico with Tim Holtz, in October of 2009. If you’re looking for a cool fresh NEW technique, check out her her blog at www.studio490art.blogspot.com We asked Wendy a few questions to find out more about her creative life: What is the most challenging part about being an artist? Talking myself into doing the B O R I N G part of my job. That would be writing up supply lists and writing instructions. Sitting at the computer is not nearly as much fun as being in the studio. I’d much rather be elbow deep in ink! The other thing I LOVE to do is experiment. What work do you most enjoying doing? I LOVE to teach. That for me, is THE BEST part of what I do. I LOVE to spend time with people who understand what I do & I LOVE to see them excited to learn & create awesome art. I LOVE the interaction between students & I LOVE the sharing that happens during workshops. It’s also a huge thrill for me to see what others do with products that I designed. How they use them is so inspiring. That’s how new fun techniques are discovered. My advice...DON’T be afraid to try an idea. It just might be the best technique EVER! And if it doesn’t workout? Everyone has a trash bin in their studio! How has your style change over time? I’d say that it’s gone from pretty flat to very dimensional & more focused on mixed media art. Mixed media is a scary term for some, but really it’s a USE WHAT YOU HAVE approach to art. Remember...Anything goes! Can you use inks, paints, embossing powders & embossing pastes in the same project? YES! Can you combine found objects with stamps and stencils? YES! ABSOLUTELY YES! Old papers with new? YES! We really love Wendy's attitude and how she inspires all beginners and people who are afraid to start their journey with mixed-media. Wendy also wants to share some of her beautiful works with you. 2018 Topic 15: Artist Trading Coins Becky Bailey Hello everyone, Darcy here with a new topic. Recently a new trend has emerged called Artist Trading Coins, we will be looking at how they came about and showcasing some fabulous samples to inspire you. Before we start, let's see who won the Topic 14: Baked Texture Challenge... The winner is: Corinne from Scrapcocofolies Email Darcy to claim your prize. [email protected] In the past we have looked at ATCs, Artist Trading Cards, we discovered the origins, the required sizes, how they could be swapped and we saw fabulous examples. Well now there is a new trend in swappables. With the same initials, it can be confusing, but today we will be looking at the other form of ATCs, these are Artist Trading Coins. Here is a set utilising a fresco paint masterboard, some brusho and a Jofy flower stamp. Catherine Johnson I tried to track down where this new trend had started and I was pointed in the direction of Craftyhodges on facebook. I reached out to her and it turns out craftyhodges is a lovely lady by the name of Joanne Hodges. Living in Portland, Oregon,USA, she has been papercrafting for around 10 years and before that she was a quilter. I asked her about the origins of Artist Trading Coins, and this is what she had to say... Hi Darcy! WOW...how exciting to hear from you, thank you for your interest. Like you, I also did some research and I do believe that I am the originator of the Artist Trading Coins. I came up with the idea when I was in the shower one morning thinking about my YouTube subscribers and what I could come up with that would be different and fun for them to make. I had recently been thinking about Bit coins (crypto currency) and somehow the ideas melded together! My first thought was to call them Crafty Coins....but then I realised they were similar to artist trading cards, just a different format. Then I thought about how much fun they would be to trade and share in happy mail, pocket letters, etc. I made a couple of samples and I was hooked. I kept the 2.5" size to be consistent with ATCs. If you've read Elizabeth Gilbert's book "Big Magic" you know about the concept of ideas that are free floating and move from one person to the next until someone acts upon them.....well, that's exactly what I did!! Joanne Thankyou Joanne. Isn't it wonderful to know how the idea floated around, melded with others and was finally brought to fruition, in the shower no less. I am sure we have all had great ideas in the shower, but Joanne acted on hers and now we have a fabulous new trend of swappable art. Check out Joanne's youtube channel for inspiration on coins and journalling. Here are some examples of Joanne's artist trading coins. This blog has lots of inspirational coins, but this set caught my eye as being really fun with great composition and titles. Alie Hhoogenboezem-de-Vries Remember regular ATCS are 3.5inches by 2.5 inches, coins are 2.5 inches in diameter, this means they will fit into the same storage and pockets, so that anyone who collects them can trade and collect easily. Speaking of storage, here is one idea to keep your coins safe, for a full tutorial check out the link under the image. Sue Ralph If you would rather have a book of coins then you really need to follow this next tutorial, simple, effective and very clear measurements and instructions. the coins look wonderful in the pockets in this book. A lovely nature themed set now, the backgrounds here are so soft and delicate, they really support the focal images. Gerry van der Velden Another fun set, this time with some stitching around the edge. Like regular trading cards, you can add a little texture but don't make them too bulky as that makes mailing difficult. Stitching is the perfect to add texture without bulk. Clare Lloyd Another fun set, showing that you do not need to make each coin drastically different, you can make sets with each one almost identical, the advantage of this approach is that they are quicker to make. But anything goes, same, similar or each one different, it is up to you. Jay Jay Three sets now, all from one artist, I included them all as each set is so different, great compositions and layering as well as fabulous colour choices. Henriette Geurkink I love this set for the hats, I do think more people should wear hats. Sakameg This pair are so striking, the images are lovely in their own right but the addition of black and white penwork has really brought these to life. Sometimes all it takes is small finishing touches to completely transform a project. Carola This set caught my eye because of the houses and the textured,layered backgrounds. So many wonderful small details to look at, with many more on her facebook page do check her out. Milo Lilja I love this set, quirky stamps always make me smile. Angela Jeanette Fabulous faces next, what makes these stand out are the little additions, tiny bits of stamping of patterns and butterflies and the snippets of text. Rosie This set is very different to the rest, in that bits are not 'stuck on', look carefully at the figures, they have been created using masks. The dark shadowing around each figure is so effective. Jana Lehmann Here is a great video, taking us from the gelli printed backgrounds to the finished coins. Wow! so much inspiration, doesn't it just make you want to dive in, whether you make them for yourselves or to swap in a group I hope you have fun. Graphic 45 Secret Garden ATC Coins 1- cut or punch some 2” circles from light chipboard 2- cut 2” circles from pattern paper 3- glue pattern paper circles onto chipboard circles You can use the paper packaging 4- fussy cut embellishments from the paper, you can use scraps of things you embossed . I didn’t on these but an idea 5- ink the edges of your circles If you use embossed scraps you can paint them or ink them My finished Coins #graphic45 #atccoin

Rosie This set is very different to the rest, in that bits are not 'stuck on', look carefully at the figures, they have been created using masks. Every month Dusty Attic has a fun little ATC challenge (with a Dusty Attic Prize!) and each month they have a different theme for the challenge. This month (March) the challenge is 'Industrial'. I gave the theme a lot of thought and decided I wanted to take a more 'natural' element like a Dusty Attic Monarch butterfly and making it 'industrial' by adding Dusty Attic chipboard cogs and Nuts and Bolts to dress it up. And in keeping with the metalic look of the butterfly, I decided to make my ATC (Artist Trading Card - 2.5"x 3.5" card) using polymer clay instead of using paper this time around. I thought you all might enjoy watching a Video Tutorial I made up in using Polymer Clay, Mica Powders (Pearlex), and chipboard to make a mixed media ATC. (I promise, this one is a lot shorter than the last video tutorial I made, but I think you might want to enjoy a cuppa coffee while you watch! :) Hope you enjoyed my video! A new experience in the small world of ..... ATCs ..... Artist Trading Card A bitty little piece of art no larger than 2-1/2" X 3-1/2". I was asked to trade ATCs for a Poe theme. Debbie has a Poe collection of ATCs and liked one of my Raven postcards. She wanted it to be fabric. So I made this one. That is such a small space to work in. My 4X6 postcards are looking quite large now! I really did not enjoy trying to be creative with fabric in such a small space. And, without going into details, I was not a very cooperative ATC trader. Having not traded them before, I wasn't familiar with the procedure. And not liking making the fabric one, had not made matters any easier for Debbie. She is a saint for sure. I wanted to see how making an ATC with paper would go. I don't know whether this falls into a Poe theme, but it is my interpretation in a paper ATC. This paper ATC I quite enjoyed making. I included it with the fabric Poe Raven for Debbie to make up for being such a shit about this trade. Then of course I wanted to send it all in a decorated envelope. After going the extra mile to be so difficult, I really had some sucking up to do! These craft envelopes have proven to be challenging to decorate. It's hard to add bright color to them. But I thought the darkishness would go well with the kind of Nevermore theme I had going. And here's the beautiful ATCs I received from Debbie. A Silk Fusion (what gorgeous color) and a tri-fold Raven. How clever his wings fold in and out. It seems Debbie wasn't disappointed in the end, but it must have been frustrating for her trying to work with ornery ole me. And I've learned my lesson in trading ATCs... like, not to do it anymore.
