LAZARO On a road to Troncones, Michoacán, lies a small truck stop where drivers pass to rest and eat. The proprietor of Parador del Desierto repurposes discarded scraps and material leftovers to craft sculptural furniture such as tables and chairs that furnish and decorate his restaurant. During our serendipitous trip, we stumbled upon a wooden side table. For us, a moment of awe and celebration of the otherwise unnoticed ways of knowledge to create. A spontaneous evocation of extraordinary beauty. For Ohla Studio, LAZARO is a juxtaposed moment of proportion and simplicity in a visually cluttered world, our way of thinking to learn, pause and contemplate. LAZARO is a replica in 3 different materials: cast bronze, molded ceramic and green onyx. A celebration of spontaneous Mexican artistry, a celebration of an otherwise overlooked artist, with otherwise forgotten knowledge, crafted by Mexican hands, re-produced through the lens of Ohla studio: a love poem. Created by designers Giulia Zink and Mat Trumbull, OH LA STUDIO was founded in 2010. Focused on art direction, interior design, and landscaping. Complemented by their backgrounds as well as creative and value similarities. In their practices, they create metaphors, which become the basis of their pieces. Their work is collectible furniture with a contemporary and minimalist line in traditional forms and models.
