When people talk about “movie magic,” they use that term for a reason. At their best, movies have the power to transport us to another time, another place, and sometimes even another world or a whole other universe! That’s their magic. Even if it is only for an hour and a half or two, films can take us on a fantastical journey filled with unbelievable creatures and awesome characters. Of course, we have to willingly come along for the ride. That’s where suspension of disbelief comes in. It means that to truly enjoy the story in front of us, we have to turn off the part of our brains that tells us getting bitten by a spider, radioactive or otherwise, wouldn’t really give you spider powers. Whip-cracking archeologists don’t really exist, either, and never have. We can accept that, as long as movies make sense within themselves. Internal logic – that’s all we ask for. Well, these movies did not listen.
