Ferdinand and Mary Cook House Renaissance Revival Row House (1890–95) 249 West End Avenue Upper West Side, New York Home of Ferdinand H. Cook (1863–1913) & Mary Aldrich (1870–1932), married 1891. On 3 January 1913, Cook went out to a store at Columbus and 72nd St. and never returned. A month later, his body was found by a troop of Boy Scouts in a woods near Jamaica, Queens. It was determined that he committed suicide due to despair over recently losing money. He had been subject to fits of depression. He had recently brought a group of nursemaids to court to try to prevent them from walking by his residence with their strollers. © Matthew X. Kiernan NYBAI11-6197
