More of Neil's photos here www.flickr.com/groups/14774027@N21/ Neil was amongst the spotters gathered at the north end of Nottingham Victoria station as ex-Southern Railway rebuilt West Country class 4-6-2 No 34042 Dorchester arrived on a football special. The clock tower - the only remaining trace of the station - looms overhead. That huge pile of ash beside the water crane is either the remains of fires cleaned out of the fire devils used to stop the column freezing up or clinker cleaned out of engine fireboxes as they took water. The match was Nottingham Forest v. Southampton in the FA Cup and two other trains ran from Southampton on the same day behind unrebuilt pacifics 34054 Lord Beaverbrook and 34102 Lapford. I have no idea what the final score was...
