A rare antique map of the island of Luzon, the Philippines, specifically the regions including Camarines Sur, Albay, and Sorsogon (and Burias Island, part of Masbate). Insets show the famous Mayon Volcano and vicinity. Originally prepared in 1899 under the supervision of P. Jose Algue, S.J., director of the Manila Observatory and issued in 1900 as a special publication of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey of the US Treasury Department (Government Printing Office, Washington, DC). This Spanish-language map is unusual particularly in that the technical work was executed wholly by Filipino draftsmen. Size of map: approx. 12.5 inches x 14.5 inches (31.75 cm x 36.83 cm). The full map is shown in the last photo. Some softness in the corners; small tears along the border, not affecting the map image, have been repaired with archival mending tissue. Minor knicks or performations along top border (not visible in the listing photos) are due to the binding. Otherwise in very good condition. Blank en verso. A copy of the title page will be provided as proof of provenance.
