PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Did you see Obama and Romney debate? Their language was not argumentative, it was more about getting their points across. Students need these same democratic skills (sometimes best demonstrated by politicians) of getting points across, working with others for shared goals, and being able to lead through influence. Thus, these language scaffolding stems are ideal resources for students to use when working with others so that they can "own" the academic language needed to succeed in class and life. I have used these in a variety of ways, including with Socratic Seminars, which is typically seen in high schools, but can be done with most grade levels (even elementary!) if scaffolded well. Once the students begin to master the language, they will become less reliant on the scaffolding questions and YOU will see them owning the language of success!
