When Dallas debuted in 1978, no one expected the nighttime soap opera to take the world by storm. And in the beginning, it certainly didn’t. The first two seasons suffered from low ratings, that is, until the final episode of season three, in March of 1980, when something miraculous occurred: J.R. Ewing got shot, and turned Dallas into a worldwide phenomenon.
