(BrushedBrass is a non-living finish). To clean, wipe the plates with a dry soft non-abrasive cloth to remove fingerprints. Do not use any strong metal cleaners or solvents, as this may compromise the lacquer on the plate. We strongly advise removing the plates before cleaning them, to avoid damaging the wall surface. Nickel silver plates can normally be cleaned easily by using a soft, dry, non-abrasive, lint-free cloth. If, over time, nickel plates build up marks that do not wipe off easily, a Wadding Polish can be used to restore shine. Great care must be taken to avoid the residue from the polish coming into contact with the walls. We strongly advise removing the plates before cleaning them to avoid this and making sure all the residue has been polished off the plates before reinstating them. Stainless steel plates can be cleaned by using a soft non-abrasive cloth with some stainless steel spray cleaner. Avoid getting the stainless steel spray cleaner on the walls as it will leave a dirty residue. Unlacquered brass plates are designed to mellow and tarnish with age. If a high-shine look is desired, they can be polished using a Brass Wadding Polish. Aged Unlacquered Brass plates have a patina already added to them when they are supplied. They are unlacquered and are designed to mellow and tarnish further with age. If you prefer the plates to look a little cleaner and brighter, they can be polished using a Brass Wadding Polish. Rub the plates softly initially to determine how much you want to clean the plates as you will risk removing some of the patina that was on the plates when they were supplied.
