For half a century Cyril Bertram Mills (1902–1991) ran the circus founded by his father; unknown even to his family and friends, he was also an intelligence officer. This biography recounts his education at Harrow and Cambridge, before following the circus tours of Europe that provided cover for spying on Nazi Germany, his recruitment of agent Garbo in the war, and his surveillance of Soviet diplomats during the Cold War.
